1
Dead Man's Shoes (2006,  Unrated)
Dead Man's Shoes
Gritty, emotionally powerful, raw and what British Films should be made of. With an almost frightening reality to it, none of the cast could be faulted in this and the acting was of such a high standard that parts could have been mistaken as a documentary.

VERDICT: An absolute must see.
2
Brokeback Mountain (2005,  R)
Brokeback Mountain
A film that leaves you full of emotions. Not the first film to bring about the subject of Homosexuality, yet the size of publicity this film gained, both positively and negatively has probably made it the most talked about Gay Interest film.

What makes this film quite unique for me is the lack of stereotyping in the casting and sitation of the storyline. The storyline builds from a slow moving start to a powerful and emotional tale.

Truly great performances by both Ledger and Gyllenhaal and is part of my favourite films list.
3
Into the Wild (2007,  R)
Into the Wild
A film that has completely blown me away on many levels.

A true story of a journey of self-discovery and search for identity, living a simplistic lifestyle, travelling a Nomadic adventure. A film of rebellion and anti-conformity.

This film is beautifully made in every sense of the word. The views of nature were captured in great detail, the acting was of high standard and very natural, the relationships between people and their relationships with the material world were completely in depth.

Excellent work here by Emile Hirsch who jusifyably portrayed this true life character's journey and of course Kudos to Sean Penn for the Screen play and Direction in this film and for choosing a project with such human insight.

Although a short role, it has to be said that the older guy in this film (whose name I can't seem to get at the moment) played a blinding role and a totally believable performance.

Inspirational, breathtaking, liberating and one hell of a life experience. The best film I have watched for a long time and this has instantly become one of my favourite films of all time. I shall now be buying the book..

UPDATE:

Second viewing already plus reading the book. I have fallen in love with the philosophy behind the story and have found a deep fascination and admiration into the character Alexander Supertramp.

Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella) (1998,  PG-13)
Life Is Beautiful (La Vita è bella)
A work of pure genious!!!

Roberto Benigni is fantastic.

This film really shows that humour really can be an international language. One man's persistance and imagination brings him love and an amazing journey for his son, whilst keeping the important messages to convey.

This is a totally original storyline, the characters and beauty of this film are blissfully unique and refreshing. The film synopsis really doesn't do it justice - see for yourselves.

The best film I have seen in a while.
5
Boy A (2007,  R)
Boy A
This film left me utterly speechless. This great British Drama is shot as a devil's advoate kind of view, showing two sides to every story.

Certain parts of the film led me and (I'm sure others) to recall a very similar well known British case.

The actions to the film lead you to make your own opinions and your mind is questioning every part of this dilemma.

Superbly acted, gritty, emotional, real hard hitting stuff with a controversial issue. Amazing! Kudos to the Director and leading actor for this one.
6
Antikörper (Antibodies) (2007,  Unrated)
Antikörper (Antibodies)
Antibodies really exceded my expectations on many levels. Firstly as a fictional story of a serial killer, this has to be the best one since ?The Silence of the Lambs?. It was controversial, made you feel uncomfortable in parts, it was casted well, especially in the case of the serial killer.

In terms of World Cinema, this is way up there with the best, it?s also high up there as a Thriller, as there are twists and turns that left me shouting at the tv screen!

If you enjoy films which cover any of these genres (Serial Killer, World cinema and Thrillers) give it a watch, it?s impressive, you won?t be disappointed.
7
London to Brighton (2008,  R)
London to Brighton
Exceptional!!! Without doubt one of the best films that I have watched in a long time. A gritty, true to life storyline with very natural performances, particularly from the two main characters. This film held me from the get go and never failed to grab my attention throughout. Quite a frightening reality, which makes it a sensational Drama.

This is a film that should be on everyone?s ?must see? list (or at the very least every Brit?s ?must see? list).

People who are easily offended by bad language should probably give it a miss.
