Volver - R I am now intriged by Pedro Almodóvar's work and intend to work my way through this list.

This is by far my favourite role for Penelope Cruz, who has always been an actress I can take or leave. Her role as a hard working Mum on the poverty line and coping with a series of events causing just a little bit of chaos, which take several twists and turns.

A totally original piece and one I certainly recommend

Nine Queens (Nueve reinas) - R I hadn?t realised the film CRIMINAL was a re-make, of course it didn?t take me long to realise that this was the original film. I usually prefer to watch the original first, but found both equally entertaining and enjoyed both portrayals of characters in each film.

Always enjoyed the ending to this one.

Black Hawk Down - R Well this was a tough 2 hours and 10 minutes for me, I won?t deny. I don?t have a great track record when it comes to war films, but despite my slight struggle?WOW?never seen a war film like it!

The film grips you from the get go and seems like an almost seemless transition from scene to scene, with much realistic bloodshed.

Acted in a very natural way, I?m glad this didn?t received the over-emphasised Hollywood Action touch that many of this type of film has.

This film definitely makes a big impact and certainly opens the eyes to the viewer in terms of what the job entails. If it can help my ignorance on the subject, I?m sure it can help many others too!

The Truman Show - PG The Truman Show was ahead of it?s time in terms of a take off of ?reality tv?, yet it could almost have been seen as a prediction of times to come.

For me the creation and notion of this film is one of originality and can be pretty thought provoking. One of Carrey?s first semi-serious roles and one which suited him well.

The shameless advertising gives an added confirmation of the Reality style tv shows and is a clever move. The perfect environment is perhaps something many people strive for, but this shows the lengths to go to to create such a place.

Crank - R I have to say I was much more impressed with this film than I had expected to be, a better role for Statham, quirky camera shots, interesting plot and comical scenarious as a result to the main storyline. November 22, 2009

Shifty - Unrated Not so much a story in a traditional sense, more of a ?day in the life of? type of tale and in this case it?s through a drug dealer?s eyes. Whilst this is true in terms of storyline build up, perhaps the true meaning of the film is about relationships of all kind, family, friendships, the loyalties that come from them, right to the non-stereotypical drug users and their relationship with drugs.

Well acted, very realistic, but as a result suffers a slightly slow paced urban thriller. Regardless, it?s a worthy British Drama and well made for what appears to be a very low budget film. A particularly good performance from Riz Ahmed.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - PG A highly amuzing film with an unlikely comedy duo of Michael Caine and Steve Martin which lead to hilarious consequences. Some classic comedy scenes included and the competitive nature throughout is just great fun. November 22, 2009

Indecent Proposal - R The film that begged the question, what would you do if you were offered the money?

An enjoyable re-watch from the 90?s, Demi Moore?s narration (all though not all through the film) was a liitle irritating and came across pretty cheesy, but the film itself is worth watching and is an experiment that puts a relationship to the ultimate test.

Shutter (They Are Around Us) - R Had quite big expectations of this film and although it was and enjoyable film, it doesn?t bring anything new to Asian Horror or the Horror genre in general.

I also have the remake and it?ll be interesting to compare the two, once I have watched.

Brewster's Millions - PG A great concept for a Comedy and an enjoyable rewatch of the 80?s classic. Thought provokingly comical. November 22, 2009

Signs - PG-13 Gave this one a second chance, as many people questioned my judgement on this film, but my opinion remains, it?s a boring film!! I admit I really don?t have a mind for a lot of Sci-fi films, as much as I would not dispute the chance there could be intelligent lifeform out there, seeing this film did nothing for me in the sense it did most people. Cop Land - R Good to see Stallone doing a more believable role. Wasn?t this the film, where they had to cut a scene, because it showed Stallone?s belly and they thought audiences would be too appalled by it? Due to his putting on weight for the role.

Quite a huge star cast, good cops, bad cops, corruption, internal affairs, The Mob ? probably not as exciting as this cast should be able to bring to the table, but none the less an interesting tale and certainly worthy of watching.

Chasing Amy - R Clerks aside, I?m not a huge fan of Kevin Smiths?s work, Chasing Amy, however became better the longer the film went on. It is perhaps a little too loaded with the male fantasy idea of a story, yet ultimately relating to relationships in general.

Sort of quirky.

The Hidden Blade - R A long winded love story, to which becomes more enjoyable during the second half. Boredeom set in occasionally which surprised me because I?ve heard such good things about this film. November 22, 2009

The Midnight Meat Train - R Hmm, where to start? My thoughts about this film changed constantly throughout. Firstly I chose to watch this film to top up my ?Serial Killers? list and thought at best it could be an average kind of film.

Almost immediately I was surprised by thte level of violence and gore portrayed, as it was in more of Horror sense and in more of a realistic manner, so that brought my estimation up a tad.

The storyline itself wasn?t really revealing too much, too early and did heavily rely on the ?he?s gonna catch you in a minute? card. It also seems the film makers really don?t like Vinnie speaking to much in their films!!

Strangely somewhere toward the end, the film totally lost any credibility with it?s ridiculous conclusion.

All in all, if you are a fan of gore it?s worth a watch, but nothing much in it if you are not. In it?s credit, it does have a certain scare factor to it.

Seom (The Isle) - Unrated The first thing I did immediately after watching this, was to grab the dvd case and read the synopsis to try to understand the hidden theme to the film.

The dvd synopsis claims ?The Most sexually perverse movie to hit our screens since David Cronenberg?s CRASH?

Totally untrue, yes it has sex in the film, but certainly not to the degree of ?CRASH?

Also says:

?Asia Extreme at it?s best? ? sadly I feel it?s Asia Extreme at it?s worse.

In truth it surprises me I made it to the end, it seems a much loved film, I just can't see the brilliance.

A Fish Called Wanda - R Entertaining and comical with great developed characters, sporting a transatlantic cast. A great bad guy role for Kevin Kline. November 22, 2009

Predator - R Not watched this film for years ? of course it?s very typical of the 80?s Action ? Muscles, loud, explosions, machine guns. This seemed back then, a film for the boys and I don?t think my opinion has changed much, other than that for the actual alien itself, which seemed great at the time, but now just looks like a person dressed in costume. Training Day - R One of my favourite performances from Denzel Washington and a great corrupt undercover police story.

What a first Day!!! I really like the fact this all happened during one day, it added a realistc feel to it and a view to the escalating circumstances, whilst the characters grow throughout.
