What I found best about this film is absolutely its lead performances and its incredibly vibrant and creative action sequences. I've seen some decrying the flashiness of the action, but I think they wonderfully accent the tone of the film. I saw a film taking directorial risk were it could to create an identity sorely lacking in the first installment, but also I saw a film becoming slightly lost in the process with its somewhat thick storyline. At least two subplots could have been completely left out and the film would not have been any different without them. I suppose like most sequels they are setting up plot points for the third one. Back on the plus side though, pitting its climax against any of the other superhero films of the year is a losing battle for all those other films. The climax is absolutely perfect, and directed with impeccable attention for small details. I'd say besides Raimi's Spider-Man 2, this is the best Spidey film in existence. Nice score too.

This was such a leap up from an already very good original. It tries its darndest to create something fresh from the typical storytelling devices employed in American animation, and avoids the pitfalls the original fell into. It works. It's super engaging and emotionally sincere, and is probably the first animated film to get this 100% right since TS3. Unquestionably, the best thing to ever come out of Dreamworks Animation, something I also said about the first.
