Black Sea (2015)Kevin Macdonald (The Last King Of Scotland) returns to theaters with… More Kevin Macdonald (The Last King Of Scotland) returns to theaters with his latest directorial effort, Black Sea. Which for some odd reason was given very little press. Say for a few TV spots and a random trailer here or there. Despite that! It got a decent sized release and for good reason! It is a damn good movie! Jude Law gives another great performance as the Captain of a submarine on the hunt for a legendary U-Boat full of Nazi gold. I am actually a little peeved because Law has given quite a few memorable performances lately and most have really flown under the radar. The Grand Budapest Hotel and Dom Hemingway to name a few. But, my preaching for more appreciation of Mr. Law's recent work aside. Black Sea is a great character-driven drama with lots of suspense and so much tension, you can hit it over the head with a wrench. Repeatedly! One of those movies where you don't go in expecting much and lo and behold! It is a pretty good picture. Well-crafted, well-acted, and despite the out-of-nowhere plot twist. It is a pretty solid movie to watch if you are tired of all the "Oscar-Bait", still floating around in theaters.
