Rampart (2012)
Cast: Woody Harrelson, Ned Beatty, Francis Capra, Ben Foster, Anne… More
Cast: Woody Harrelson, Ned Beatty, Francis Capra, Ben Foster, Anne Heche, Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Audra McDonald, Cynthia Nixon, Sigourney Weaver, Robert Wisdom, Robin Wright, Steve Buscemi, Jon Bernthal, Jon Foster, Stella Schnabel
Director: Oren Moverman
Summary: Dave Brown is a dirty cop with a mile-wide mean streak. As he roams the streets meting out "justice," the LAPD sinks into a corruption scandal. The countdown to Brown's judgment is on in this fact-based film co-written by crime novelist James Ellroy.
My Thoughts: "There is a lot of players in this film. A variety of good talent. That is the best part of the movie is the performances. The performances outshine the story. It's not your usual cop story either. There isn't a lot of action, barely actually. This is no doubt a cop drama. The film revolves around a shady police officer, Dave Brown, who is being investigated for the murder of two, and the filmed beating of one. He justifies the things he has done by claiming he only killed the bad guys, only the bad ones. Brown's home life is just as much as a mess as his work life is. One daughter old enough to see her father for what he is and a younger one who is just learning who he is. It's sad when it comes to his daughter's. The anger the oldest one feels and the confusion by the youngest really pulls at your heart making you feel bad for them. Brown feels very much safe standing behind his badge that it is kinda satisfying watching a corrupt cop spiral down so quickly.
Woody Harrelson is a great actor and really brings life to this character. A great performance by him and everyone else in this film. A very talented cast."

Shame (2011)
Cast: Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale, Nicole… More
Cast: Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale, Nicole Beharie, Hannah Ware, Amy Hargreaves, Alex Manette
Director: Steve McQueen
Summary: Although handsome New Yorker Brandon Sullivan is outwardly reserved, inside he's seething with an overwhelming sexual addiction. But when his uninhibited younger sister invades his life, Brandon struggles to control his self-destructive behavior.
My Thoughts: "The performances by Fassbender and Mulligan are outstanding. The emotions are intense, honest, and raw. Michael Fassbender oozes with confidence as he walks around nude (there is no shame in his game nor should there be ; ] ). Kudos for him for taking on a role most men would shy away from. Ms. Mulligan didn't shy away from going all natural either. So kudos to her as well.
The underlying story of Brandon and Sissy's relationship is the reasoning for why their relationship is so strained. I believe her presence makes him more aware of his issues and the "shame" he feels, which therefore makes him angry at himself and at her for making him feel those feelings. With her there he loses the control he had. She brings chaos to his scheduled secluded life. This leads him down a downward spiral fast. Sissy also has her own issues with sex. She attaches herself to men who don't want her. Where Brandon's is an addiction, hers is more of a plead of wanting to be wanted and loved.
In the end it's a fantastic film with great performances by Fassbender and Mulligan. The only complaint, more of a request really, I would have liked more of a background story on the characters. Just a bit more to go on. But besides that, it's a great film that gives you a look inside the world of sex addiction and the destruction it brings to ones life."

We Bought a Zoo (2011)
Cast: Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick… More
Cast: Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Patrick Fugit, Colin Ford, Elle Fanning, Maggie Elizabeth Jones, John Michael Higgins, Angus Macfadyen, Peter Riegert, Stephanie Szostak, J.B. Smoove
Director: Cameron Crowe
Summary: In this adaptation of Benjamin Mee's memoir about buying and saving a run-down zoo, the locale shifts from Britain to southern California. However, the wacky spirit of the original is retained, complete with escaped tigers and a zoo crew of misfits.
My Thoughts: "A sweet movie about a family struggling to move on and heal. The relationship between father and son is strained and tense. But I think the son is acting out for attention. He is upset and grieving, but having difficulty dealing with his feelings. I think the father, Benjamin, turned a blind eye to it. He seemed more focused on his daughter Rosie (who is played by an extremely adorable Maggie Elizabeth Jones) and her happiness more so then his sons. He even metioned to Dylan that he needed his help to make her happy. That was sad to watch when the son, Dylan, is screaming for him to help him be happy.
I didn't see why Dylan and Lily needed to have the scene of declared love. Seemed unnecessary for the film and forced. Just cheesy."
"You know sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage."

The Caller (2011)
Cast: Stephen Moyer, Rachelle Lefevre, Luis Guzmán, Ed Quinn, Lorna… More
Cast: Stephen Moyer, Rachelle Lefevre, Luis Guzmán, Ed Quinn, Lorna Raver, Gladys Rodríguez, Alfredo De Quesada, Brian Tester, Grace Connelly
Director: Matthew Parkhill
Summary: This spooky thriller tracks the private nightmare of Mary Kee, a divorcée who begins receiving disturbing telephone calls from a woman she doesn't know. After engaging the stranger initially, Mary tries to extricate herself -- with horrific results.
My Thoughts: *throwing hands up in the air stomping feet*
"I don't know how I tend to keep on picking such craptastic films. A scary film is not suppose to PUT YOU TO SLEEP! Where are the good old scary films gone? Doesn't anyone put any effort into these films anymore?
OK. So this may have a few spoilers.
I don't understand the ending what so ever. Why didn't Rose kill the younger Mary Kee in the past instead of coming to the future to kill the grown up Mary Kee? How come Mary Kee never called the cops on her ex who was obviously not abiding by the restraining order? It is just a mess of a movie that made not whole lot of sense and that took too damn long to get anywhere. Definitely skip this one."
