Forget what the top critics say. This was a great film. Should I talk about the good parts or bad parts first? I'll go with the good parts considering there are more of them. This had some great acting. Angelina Jolie gave a great performance along with lots of emotion. She made the film believable. She really felt like a mother who just lost her child. Her tone of voice and facial expression is part of what moved the film towards the end and kept the emotion bottled in you. The direction was great as well. It's by Clint Eastwood so, how can it be bad? He did a good job at directing the actors and everyone else on set. Told the camera men where to shot and the art directors what style of art to use. His choice in pacing was great. Not to fast to keep me board and not to slow to keep me looking at the time. It did start a little to fast but it retained itself threw time length. The production values where great. It really did look like the 20's. I wasn't alive back then so that statement is probably baseless. Good costume design and great cinematography. The negative side of this overall good film would be the writing. The dialogue was okay but what hit me the most was the conflict. Sure it was a true and doleful story but it lacked good flow. The different conflicts didn't quite mixed as well as they should have. It felt more like towards the end it was written to get it over with. Overall, this was a great sad true story that I would recommend not just to
cinephiles but also casual film viewers.

Coraline (2009)

Thrilling and heavy on artistic story I don't think it should be considered a children's film. What a great story. The plot was nearly perfect. It introduced it's characters, rising action, climax, falling action, and last but not least the resolution. It fallowed this plot structure perfectly and didn't get off key. The climax was simple and had a huge emotional effect on me. It made me sick to my stomach and just made the whole film go down for me. This is what the climax should do. The scene I am talking about is when Caroline gets handed the box and finds out what is inside it. At this point the film's action went down just like in the plot structure diagram every film maker should fallow. Having said all that, this has some great writing. The dialogue could have been better. But the week dialogue is shadowed by the excellent story line. The direction is marvelous. They created a imaginative world just like in The Nightmare Before Christmas. I don't even like the Nightmare Before Christmas so I thought I would not like this one but I was wrong. It features great characters with great personalities. The pacing could have been slower. The production values where also really good. It has a stop motion feel to it because it is stop motion. It must of taken long to move those puppets. I personality would never be patient enough to do that. If you like stop motion animation and great story lines then this is a good one. You won't be disappointed.
