| Ace in the Hole (The Big Carnival) - Unrated | I loved this movie. I watched it over several days and I felt like I was a part of the carnival of people hanging around that mountain! I think the title is perfect to represent Tatum's own "Ace in the hole" literally stuck down there. And when Tatum would look at the bottle as if it was beckoning to him that reminded me of THE LOST WEEKEND. The best part of it was that Tatum was a character who seemed so set in his ways that he would never want to change, so to see him go on the journey that the film takes him on is very rewarding. Favorite scene: When the carnival first gets set up and you see how many people are gathered there, reminded me of a mini Burning Man! haha | December 31, 2008 | N/A | |||
| The Amateurs (The Moguls) (Dirty Movie) - R | It's been a long time since I watched a movie and felt good like I did after seeing this film. The characters to me were likable, quirky and fun. I believed in the friendships of these small town folks and enjoyed seeing their experience trying to make a porno. Very redeeming ending. Favorite scene: Andy realizes at the end how to save the film. | February 22, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (AVP 2) - R | I enjoyed the storyline even though the main (human) characters weren't too interesting, in terms of dialogue and general character development. Even though they were just there mainly to be attacked by the aliens and the predator, the aliens and the predator were the ones that I wanted to see the most anyway. Favorite scene: The hunter and his son encounter the aliens in the woods. | January 18, 2008 | N/A | |||

| Rescue Dawn - PG-13 | I've seen a few of these prisoner of war movies so I have a pretty good idea of how the universal genre elements play out. Things like the prisoner torture and the hopes/attempts at escape. What I like about Rescue Dawn is the character development of Dieter and how I really came to get to know and like him. I am a huge fan of Bale so I think that may have contributed as well to me liking him so much in this. The scenes in the first half in the prison really brought me down, they were well done - good script and acting, it's just the story of being trapped as they were was quite depressing. However in comparison, the second and last half of the film changes tone and becomes inspirational and uplifting. Favorite scene: The ending | December 9, 2007 | N/A | |||

| Across the Universe - PG-13 | There were some scenes in this movie that really affected me deeply and I knew it was because the music was working its magic. I am a big Beatles fan, and I think that made the difference in my enjoyment of the film. I am not sure someone who isn't a big Beatles fan would have felt the same impact as I did on some of the scenes. I think it was important that the actors had such good voices because they really gave justice to the songs and they sang them beautifully. I think having certain scenes with trippy images shot with vibrant colors helped to conjure up the psychadelic attitudes of the 60's, and I really liked that aspect of it. In the beginning I liked how the characters were having so much fun and enjoying life and how we follow their journey into the sadder, more difficult times. The ending was especially nice in the way it took a moment that was so important to the history of the Beatles and paid such adoring tribute to it. Favorite scene: The ending | October 6, 2007 | N/A | |||
| Bug - R |
When I was watching this film and the "bugs start to appear" and I found out "what the bugs were" and what would start happening now that they "arrived"...it was, surprising! I didn't expect it because I didn't know the story was about "those kinds of bugs" The acting was superb. I've never seen Ashley Judd act this way before but she nailed it. Favorite scene: The last one.
*spoiler alert* At one point I noticed that, like EXORCIST, Friedkin had many scenes revolving around a bed in this film. And when I noticed that Peter began to spazz out on the bed, very similar to how Linda Blair had her episode on her bed. Peter and Ashely Judd by the end were acting like they were as possessed as Blair in the EXORCIST. And that is what I enjoyed about it. |

| Lonely Hearts - R | This movie surprised me because I didn't know much about it or what to expect. I rented it because I love James Gandolfini from the Sopranos and I also lately have really gotten into Jared Leto. Both were superb in the film. The story captures your interest and the main couple of Leto and Hayek are very engaging and captivating. Hayek plays a possesive noir fatale very convincingly. Favorite scene: Leto calls the other woman "kitty kat" with grave consequences. | August 11, 2007 | N/A | |||

| Transformers - PG-13 | It was more than meets the eye! The special effects of the robots was amazing! But being such a big fan of the original cartoon, my complaint was that there were not enough scenes with the actual Transformers. It really focused heavily on the human story, which is understandable since the film took place on Earth. I wish it would have taken place on the Transformers planet Cybertron. And there simply was not enough development of the Deceptacons. For instance Starscream is one of my favorite of the Deceptacons and he barely had a role in it!! Also the dialogue between Optimus Prime and Megatron could have been sharpened up, because that is such a classic battle and they had barely any good lines between the two of them. You don't even see Megatron until near the end it seemed and that was a disappointment. I think this movie will likely have a sequel and I just hope that the next one focuses more on the battles of the robots. But there were definitely some breathtaking fight scenes, just not enough in my opinion. It left me wanting to see the original Transformers the Movie, the cartoon! | Pusher III: I Am The Angel of Death - Unrated | At first I wasn't as interested in this last film in the PUSHER trilogy because it just wasn't grabbing my interest right away like the previous two films did. However it is a fascinating character study of Milo. Eventually I did start to get intrigued towards the end as tension suddenly explodes in one out of control scene involving a girl trying to escape two very evil guys. I liked how Milo was making an honest effort to clean himself up but on this particular day with the unfortunate situation he finds himself in, staying sober proved to be nearly impossible for him. I especially liked the character of his old friend Radovan, who helps out Milo in an amazing show of friendship. Favorite scene: Radovan helps Milo by showing an interesting way to dispose of a dead body. | June 22, 2007 | N/A | |||
| 30 Days of Night - R | I am very much looking forward to this movie coming out as I am a huge fan of the graphic novel as well as much of Steve Niles work. | June 20, 2007 | N/A | |||
| Ocean's Thirteen - PG-13 | Part of what made this movie work for me is that the characters are just so completely likable! I'm a big fan of the previous two Ocean's movies in this trilogy (as well as the original) and so I went to see it knowing already that I love the main characters, especially Brad Pitt, Clooney and Damon. From the opening scene with the cool jazz music and the Las Vegas setting, I was drawn in. I am a big fan of the casinos and gambling so to see that world from their unique "insiders" viewpoint is fascinating. A lot of the beginning of the film, as in the previous stories, is devoted to the intricate and complicated set up. What makes it so fun to watch is how good they are at what they're doing. The payoff at the end certainly delivers with the laughs and the action. Favorite scene: I have two, David Paymer as the "V.U.P" discovers the hidden surprises in his hotel room, and what must have felt like the longest 3 minutes in Pacino as Bank's life and the goings on in his casino during those minutes. | June 19, 2007 | N/A | |||
