An suprisingly gripping story which is very well acted. The excellent use of Technicolor really brings it to life.
Cry Freedom

An intelligent and powerful film about the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. However, after Biko's death, the film errs from the politics and becomes more of an action film, which doesn't seem to fit with the first half. An excellent film nonetheless.

Death Note (Desu nôto)

Nowhere near as good as the manga, but still an excellent film. Ken'ichi Matsuyama did an excellent job of playing L and I loved the comic-style Ryuk. While the plot didn't remain entirely faithful to the manga, it worked very well for the film. Now I'm off to watch the second film...
Desu nôto 2 (Death Note: The Last Name)

I am totally addicted to Death Note. Both the manga and the films. The story is incredibly clever and all the characters are so complex. L is by far my favourite character. A strange orphan who is always eating, Ken'ichi Matsuyama portrayed him amazingly. Every scene is so well acted and it is incredibly hard to stop yourself watching. I already feel like I need to watch this again. Tatsuya Fujiwara, Erike Toda and Ken'ich Matsuyama completely made the film and I can see these young actors going far in their careers. Now, without a doubt, I have to watch the third film and finish all 12 volumes of the manga. The whole Death Note franchise is a masterpiece.
