My Favorite Movies

  adegan742's Rating My Rating
1
Batman Begins (2005,  PG-13)
Batman Begins
One of the best origin stories of all the comic book movies, good character development and enveloping story. Fans of the character will be pleased, what I didn't like too much about the film is the suit, it looks too bulky and limited in movement, but other than that it's a great film. Great character development and story that pays off very good in the end. An all around great film.
2
Back to the Future (1985,  PG)
Back to the Future
One of my favorite movies of all time, very entertaining, good story with very memorable characters and moments.
3
Back to the Future Part II (1989,  PG)
Back to the Future Part II
The next chapter is just as good as the first if not better, more conflict and hazardous situations to entertain you.
4
Back to the Future Part III (1990,  PG)
Back to the Future Part III
My favorite one because it's set in the Old West, been wanting to see that since the first one. A little sappy on the love story and the plot is a little weak but it works for me overall
5
Superman (1978,  PG)
Superman
Great orgin story, groundbreaking special effects for its time, very entertaining and character driven story of one of the greatest superheroes of all time.
6
Superman II (1981,  PG)
Superman II
A very good follow up to the first one, it's equal or better than its predecessor I prefer the Donner Cut but this one is interesting as well.
7
Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006,  PG)
Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut
Adds so much more depth to an already good film, something good to see and compare to the version that we got originally.
8
Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume 1 (,  G)
Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume 1
Excellent animation, great sound editing and effects. Not much story but tons of action sequences, the only regret is that it's too short but good.
9
Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume 2 (,  G)
Star Wars: Clone Wars - Volume 2
A little longer than the first volume and hence a bit better, same action and effects played to the maximum, little exaggerated at times but entertaining.
10
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
I am a Star Wars fanatic, and I admit this one had a weak plot and not many liked it but it was a good introduction to a new trilogy. Another director and writer would have done wonders for the prequels as a whole.
11
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
One of my least favorite of the prequels, again another writer would have been great to throw in some good lines when they were needed, entertaining sci-fi action and effects have to suffice to get you to be glued to your seat.
12
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005,  PG-13)
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
This film has its flaws but overall it is a very dark portrayal of the fallen hero and his turn to the dark side, very good action sequences and special effects. Good story although the dialogue was kind of cheesy sometimes, but in general an entertaining film.
13
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
Here it is the one that started it all, great introduction to the universe that would forever be known in cinema history. What's not to like?
14
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Regarded by fans and I am one of them to be the best of the series and it is, it's dark and very revealing. I love the battle of Hoth, my favorite of all the Star Wars action sequences, it tends to get a little slow in the middle but it's a great development of character building up to the great revelation we never expected. Great film.
15
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983,  PG)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
The last entry in the series. It has tons of action and the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. The last space battle is one of the highlights of the film. I just wish it could have gone longer. Didn't like the Ewoks that much but it was a nice addition to an already diverse galaxy.
16
Alien (1979,  R)
Alien
Great entry into the series, a very good sci-fi horror film with great performances and claustrophobic atmosphere to keep you at the edge of your seat.
17
Aliens (1986,  R)
Aliens
The best Alien in the series in my opinion, action, suspense and thrills throughout. Moves the series from a claustrophobic, psychological thriller to a more action oriented story and it works.
18
Mission Impossible (1996,  PG-13)
Mission Impossible
I liked the way they constructed the story to sort of turn it around in the end. I love these type of films where if you don't pay enough attention, you will get lost. Good mix of action, intelligence and special effects.
19
Mission Impossible 2 (2000,  PG-13)
20
Mission: Impossible III (2006,  PG-13)
21
Halloween (1978,  R)
Halloween
One of the first slasher films and one of the best, great scary moments, it defined the genre with an intelligent premise and great craft, unlike the crap from today.
22
Halloween (2007,  R)
Halloween
The film was good in its portrayal of evil and how it can corrupt a person. I liked the movie in terms of the bloody horror and the sheer brutality of how everything plays out. But the supporting characters were not as developed as they should and I ended up not caring for any of them specially Laurie which is portrayed as just another teenage victim and the camera work was not all that good either sometimes too close and others jittery. But overall it was a good portrayal of the character of Michael.
23
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) (1981,  PG)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark)
One of the greatest action adventure films of all time, great start to a fantastical trilogy of adventures. Great plot and script coupled with a truly inspiring score makes this an absolute classic. An introduction to one of the most iconic action heroes in modern cinema.
24
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984,  PG)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
I love all of the Indiana Jones movies and I liked this one, is darker and more violent than the other ones great atmosphere of tension and action packed finale.
25
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989,  PG-13)
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
The best of them all Indy is after the Holy Grail, the most elusive prize in history, great story development and action adventures to last.
26
Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003,  PG-13)
27
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006,  PG-13)
28
Spider-Man (2002,  PG-13)
Spider-Man
Good origin story of my favorite superhero, great character intro and development, they made changes from the comics which I didn't like but overall I enjoyed it.
29
Spider-Man 2 (2004,  PG-13)
Spider-Man 2
Great follow up to an already good film, more character development and a great antagonist in Doctor Octopus.
30
Final Destination 3 (2006,  R)
Final Destination 3
This one has some very gruesome deaths like its predecessors. Very enjoyable enveloping, it gets extra points for being the first starring role of my beloved Mary. Two thumbs up.
31
Highlander (1986,  R)
32
Empire of the Sun (1987,  PG)
33
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991,  PG-13)
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
I don't get why people dislike this movie, (the lack of english accent or cliches abounding) I personally like this take on the Robin Hood legend, it had action, adventure and romance. The acting left a little to be desired especially from Costner but it's a great entertaining film.
34
Kingdom of Heaven (2005,  R)
35
Pearl Harbor (2001,  PG-13)
Pearl Harbor
Not many liked it but I did, great depiction of the attack in general, I loved the aerial sequences and the love story although it was a little sappy it was reminiscent of the old hollywood films.
36
Saving Private Ryan (1998,  R)
Saving Private Ryan
My favorite war film, great depiction of WWII combat and the camraderie of the men.
37
Jurassic Park (1993,  PG-13)
38
The Lost World - Jurassic Park (1997,  PG-13)
39
Jurassic Park III (2001,  PG-13)
40
Live Free or Die Hard (2007,  PG-13)
Live Free or Die Hard
Being a fan of the franchise leaves one to be a little biased, but in the case of this one it's one of the best in the series, a roller coaster ride of stunts and explosions. It really gave me a nostalgic feeling of the action movies of yesteryear. What I didn't like was the PG-13 rating but other than that it was very good.
41
Die Hard (1988,  R)
Die Hard
The one that started it all, this is one action movie that has to be in the top 10 of the genre, action packed and edge of your seat thrills.
42
Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder) (1990,  R)
Die Hard 2 (Die Hard 2: Die Harder)
Some people like it some people don't, I for one liked it, I mean come on it's an action flick that keeps you entertained although you already know what's going to happen in the end. It's a little long and the plot does have some unbelievable holes in it but it's supposed to be like that. Just don't take it too seriously.
43
Die Hard With a Vengeance (Die Hard 3) (1995,  R)
Die Hard With a Vengeance (Die Hard 3)
Same formula as the other ones and works. Samuel L. Jackson and Willis have good chemistry between them which is why this movie is a little bit different than the others. More humorous moments and action mixed in, great flick.
44
The Terminator (1984,  R)
The Terminator
Looking back to it, the effects do seem a little dated but the intriguing plot, fine direction and at the time a very intriguing and groundbreaking science fiction story has made it a film for the ages. Only surpassed by its sequel in its technical aspects and aesthetics but not in heart.
45
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991,  R)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
This film is a cornerstone in the sci fi/action genre. It took effects and action to whole new level and few films have been able to capture that magic. The film manages to stand on its own in achievements technically, visually and with an engaging story.
46
Batman: Dead End (2003,  Unrated)
Batman: Dead End
The first time I saw this it was incredible to me, this is a great short the costumes and the action are top notch for a short. Although some of the performances are a little stupid.
47
Batman (1989,  PG-13)
Batman
Great music and atmosphere, sadly its not one of the best interpretations of the character but it works to a degree, I thought the plot was a little weak but the interpretation of Jack as the Joker was good enough.
48
Batman Returns (1992,  PG-13)
Batman Returns
Same formula as the first one but with more villains, the plot is a little weak as well and not what you would think of Batman. This one had the problem of relegating Batman (the main character) to almost a supporting role. Not very good but dark and enjoyable.
49
Batman - Mask of the Phantasm (1993,  PG)
Batman - Mask of the Phantasm
Very noirish ans stylish just like the series which I love, it's a great story filled with mystery, and suspense perhaps the best Batman film animated or live action. Only Batman Begins is better.
50
The Batman vs Dracula: The Animated Movie (2005,  Unrated)
The Batman vs Dracula: The Animated Movie
As a fan of this show I found this animated film to be quite entertaining and a great addition to the already great show.
51
Batman Beyond - Return of the Joker (2000,  PG)
52
28 Days Later (2003,  R)
28 Days Later
Very human and scary at parts horror movie. It is a portrayal of a small group of people coping with a devastating virus that has swept England. It has some intense scenes of violence and in your face camera angles. Great little horror story highly recommended.
53
Troy (2004,  R)
54
The Untouchables (1987,  R)
The Untouchables
Great direction and story, Some of the acting is flat but great chemistry all around. I thought the movie lacked a little bit more action, this is a mob movie, but it comes out like more of a drama with all around good performances specially De Niro. All around good film.
55
The Thing (1982,  R)
The Thing
Very claustrophobic and disgusting effects marks this as one of my all time favorite horror/sci-fi movies.
56
Misery (1990,  R)
57
The Monster Squad (1987,  PG-13)
The Monster Squad
I have always thought this is The Goonies meet the classic monsters and I love it, I grew up watching this one and has always been one of my favorites.
58
The Goonies (1985,  PG)
The Goonies
My favorite movie of the 80's. Very good story, entertaining, funny and adventurous, those are my kind of movies.
59
Night of the Living Dead (1990,  R)
Night of the Living Dead
A very worthy update of a classic film. Possibly the best remake of the Dead films, right up there with Dawn ('04). Very claustrophobic atmosphere and intense. Make up effects are top notch, Savini is doing them what more could you ask for.
60
Dawn of the Dead (1979,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
It's a very good film but not as great as everybody says. I liked the concept and the beginning was good but then towards the middle I thought the film dragged a lot. They just lived up there and did nothing. Very few action scenes and those zombies in blue faces not scary at all. But regardless it's a good entry.
61
Dawn of the Dead (2004,  R)
Dawn of the Dead
One of the great recent remakes if not the best. I love zombie films, and this one I have to say is a step above the original. Good gory moments, jump at you scenes and a good plot makes this a very good entry into the zombie pantheon. And last but not least tons of zombie action.
62
Grindhouse (Grind House) (2007,  R)
63
Escape from New York (1981,  R)
Escape from New York
I just love dystopian future movies, and this is one of the best, the story is a little dated already but it's a good premise nontheless. Great anti-hero in Snake, one of my favorite characters.
64
The Hills Have Eyes (2006,  R)
The Hills Have Eyes
Very brutal and unpredictable this is one of the best of the horror remakes if not the best, I loved the style the director used and the story just keeps you on the edge of your seat, just as a horror movie should be.
65
Pet Sematary (1989,  R)
Pet Sematary
Although it's not faithful to the book it is still very scary story and has all the King trademarks, my favorite King story.
66
Transformers (2007,  PG-13)
Transformers
A tour de force of stunts and special effects. The story is a little weak or not developed fully, but this one is just for enjoying the special effects. Awesome robot combat action alone makes this one a must see. Very entertaining eye-candy.
67
30 Days of Night (2007,  R)
30 Days of Night
Very tense and brutal horror thriller. Has very gory scenes mixed with a claustrophobic setting and intense story. It kept me interested throughout. Camera work was a little shaky at times but it helped to keep you at the edge.
68
28 Weeks Later... (2007,  R)
28 Weeks Later...
Very different approach from 28 days. It's more brutal and gripping, has more action and it's a family based story instead of the ragtag group of people from the first one. I like it a little bit more than the first one, in terms of the action, gore and pacing. Highly entertaining.
69
Predator (1987,  R)
Predator
Extremely brutal action flick. Has tons of explosions, action and a big bad alien that we have come to love. The introduction to one of movie's great monsters. A straight up action film need I say more.
70
Predator 2 (1990,  R)
Predator 2
Not as good as the first one, but equally bloody and brutal. Basically the same movie just with different setting and characters.
71
Poltergeist (1982,  PG)
72
Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983,  PG)
Twilight Zone: The Movie
Excellent adaptation of the TV series. Featuring remake of episodes by Spielberg, Landis and others this movie has a mixture of magic, terror and finding one's inner youth. One of my all time favorites
73
The Wicker Man (1973,  R)
The Wicker Man
A very haunting and somewhat creepy tale of a cult of Pagans living in an island off the coast of England. I liked it because of the feeling of isolation the main characters goes through. Also being completely surrounded by these bizarre people. Very entertaining mystery film.
74
Red Dragon (2002,  R)
75
Hannibal Rising (2007,  R)
76
Mad Max (1979,  R)
Mad Max
It starts as a typical good guy vs. bad guy type of film, then it turns into a revenge story. Very good film considering the low budget it was made in. One of the great dystopic future action films, this one started it all.
77
Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior) (1981,  R)
Mad Max 2 (The Road Warrior)
The best entry in the Mad Max trilogy. Amazing and thrilling chase sequences mixed wih good character development and high octane action. What more could one ask from a film?
78
The Mist (2007,  R)
The Mist
Great performances from the cast in general. Great script and the development of the story went very fluidly. The special effects were a little too CGI sometimes, but that's not the point of the story, it's not a monster movie per se. But a human drama about people in extraordinary circumstances. I thought the ending was yes ironic and tragic, but it's good too see an unhappy ending unlike all the movies today, it was very real something that would happen in real life.Besides the ending of the book would have been much worse, leaving things open to interpretation. This ending gave it closure.
79
Halloween II (1981,  R)
Halloween II
An immediate continuation from the first one. A very worthy sequel this time it manages to evoke that claustrophobic setting that we see in some horror films. It continues the same pacing and psychological terror from its predessesor.
80
Con Air (1997,  R)
81
Blade II (Blade 2) (2002,  R)
82
Flyboys (2006,  PG-13)
Flyboys
A lot of people panned this movie, I really don't know why. Sure it may be a little cliched, and there may be a few historical inaccuracies here and there, namely the German planes being all triplanes. But it's a very fun action adventure film with great high flying action sequences with some drama mixed in and a little love story to complete it. It is an explosively entertaining film, if you don't take it so seriously.
83
Road to Perdition (2002,  R)
84
Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther (2006,  PG-13)
85
Casino Royale (2006,  PG-13)
Casino Royale
This is my favorite of the Bond films, this one portrays a very gritty and dangerous Bond which I liked. He's still suave but to a certain degree not over the top like the other ones. The plot was very intricate and complex, unlike its predecessors which I have always thought it to be recycled from film to film. Excellent film, highly recommended.
86
Children of Men (2006,  R)
Children of Men
This movie was one of the best of the year, good mix of drama, action and character development and excellent script, also great cinematography. Dystopian portrayal of a very possible not too distant future. No explanation why humans could not procreate( guess it was pollution) but other that that it was great, highly recommended.
87
Home Alone (1990,  PG)
88
The Incredible Hulk (2008,  PG-13)
The Incredible Hulk
This is a great adaptation of the character, everything the first one should have been and more. I actually enjoyed this one a bit more than Iron Man. It has more action, stunts, effects and more fast paced. What I really liked was the homages it had not only to the comics but to the tv show and the man on the run angle was very well played. Don't know why people complain about the CGI, it looked very detailed and well done, you cannot do the Hulk without it plain and simple. A very fun and entertaining ride. 'Nuff said.
89
Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
This comic book adaptation is just amazing, very well made. I would put it in the vein of Batman Begins. A great origin story, excellently paced and with great performances all around. Downey Jr. is Tony Stark in my opinion, his character, his motivations and mannerisms are straight out of the pages of the comic, great performance indeed. I loved the setups that this film has to the inevitable sequel and to a possible Avengers movie. The whole Nick Fury sequence st the end was a very good ending again great setup . All we need now is Captain America.
