Dabbler in all things aural, part time explorer, part time philosopher, part time counselor, full time student of life..A CopyFighter and member of the Pirate Party (political party, not the SCA Pyrats ::grin::)! I was once a boy, an explorer and a flyer. Now my wings have been cut but the ice and the peaks beckon me whenever I open my eyes. I created whole languages out of the aether, enabling those who were blind to see -- the world not as it is, but as it is perceived. Seeing the waters, with the fish swimming in the bathtubs, I ran, back to the parched peaks, where my spirit soared, though my body slowed. Prone sometimes, vertical othertimes, the aspens whisper as the days pass. The cottonwoods answer with their seed flying in the air. I stumble on the bridge, betwixt both, their discourse washing over me. It may take aeons, but the messages are heard, the lessons taught, and the world percieved melds with the world as-is. Blade Runner
R
The Classic Cyberpunk movie. The takeoff from Philip K Dick's story is only so-so, but the film's characters and story stands on its own. Highly recommended for the dark futurism and spectacular use of effects available in 1982.
2.
V for Vendetta
R
Incredible adaptation of the graphic novel. I was scared that the Wachowski Bros. would drop the storyline in the detention center, but much to my delight, it became a centerpiece of the movie. I'm absolutely blown away by Portman's & Weaving's performances. Weaving brings so much to the character without ever being able to see his face.
3.
Dogma
R
Kevin Smith on Religion! Great dialougue with clever satire/commentary on today's organized religions.
4.
Highlander
R
The classic adventure that asks the eternal question: "Who wants to live forever?" Too bad all the followup movies had none of the heart or class of this movie.
5.
The Fountain
PG-13
Well adapted from the graphic novel. The changes to the storyline are somewhat controversial, though they clarify some fuzzy parts of the original book. This movie touches my heart and the semi-open ending creates lots of good conversations. Touching...not your standard hollywood fare. And the special effects using oil emulsion blow me away!
6.
Pitch Black
R
This movie came out of nowhere to become my favorite sci fi "chase" movie ever. The simplicity of the universe and storyline allows the viewer to concentrate on the interplay between characters. This movie was an absolute blast, and a breath of fresh air. I just wish that Chronicles of Riddick hadn't tried so hard to fit 3 movies worth of universe and story into one muddled movie.
