How naive this movie seems already. In the era before epigenetics & RNA computers, the thought that the Genetics we're born with is unchangeable, unmalleable is simply quaint.
wow. an incredible movie that transcends the "superhero" movie genre. Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely brilliant. But beware, this movie is *long*.
Missing the soul of the first Hellboy, straying from Hellboy "canon" in strange places/ways. This movie felt more like Guillermo was looking for an excuse to tell a story of the old peoples and used Hellboy to do it -- and he didn't even capture the feel and grandeur of the old folk.
The best "snapping" movie of all time. I have to pull this one out every now and then to rewatch it. A masterpiece in its own way, though obviously not the epitome of film as art
I love this movie--the interplay between the characters is "killer", even the chemistry between "crazy" Pitt and Duchovny. A classic psychological thriller in my book
Hayden did a good job not getting pouty and sullen until about halfway through the movie and he mostly kept it to a minimum. It had an intriguing storyline that felt rushed and chopped. The plot initially promises several interesting sidelines (his mom, the "paladins", jumpers potentially allying, history or origin of jumpers--it's mentioned that they've been around since the middle ages). Maybe the ultimate goal was to setup a sequel, but I can't help feeling a little disappointed at the abrupt ending.
It's an awful spoof, as expected. I think they sent to much time focusing on random parodies that didn't flow into the general context. The filmmakers also missed a lot of opportunities for some good, sharp, witty sketches. I'm surprised that they didn't spoof more of the recent over-the-top historical remakes, like Alexander, Troy, Gladiator, Beowulf, etc.
Good popcorn fluff, I just wish they hadn't kept the association with the graphic novel -- the story on its own is amusing, but is so remote from the Mark Millar's story that it's a real stretch to say it was "based" on *anything.
It took a mad genius to come up with this moviie -- the characters are well cast and the incredible creativity in the mini-movies blows me away. The overall plot stumbles a bit, but it comes together in the the end. Just make sure you've seen all the movies that they "swede:.
Takes the book and turns the meaning around 180 deg. A travesty, even worse than what Will Smith did to I, Robot. Truly an awful, awful thing to do to a really good story. I don't mind the liberties they take with the adaptation to film, but the ending is the exact opposite of everything the story was trying to communicate, down to corrupting the title/signature line of the story.
