| Vicky Cristina Barcelona - PG-13 |
I understand the concept, intended humour and metaphors, but ultimately these ideas were thrown together to form an overly-stylised film with no substance. The two American women were 2D flimsy stereotypes, one clueless yet hopeful, and the other seemingly clued-up but then not really... Cruz was the only good thing about this film, thank god she was there bilingually (and bisexually) even so, the film was cheesy and cliched, rather than sexy and as for the menage a trios being oh-so daring, it was just predictably pathetic. I guess we are supposed to question the quest for love/relationships by laughing at these losers, but they provoke total indifference because they're lame, hobbling cliches. If Allen knocks out any more bad films like this I will have to boycott the aging fool. |

Why gather a strong cast and then blow it by letting it meander? Why are certain people so screwed up? Why did I sit through all 90 mins of it? Totally trashy, camp cult classic, so it got one more star than it deserved. Bad acting, bad script, just bad! The infamous wire coat hanger scene is the only part worth watching, so find it on YouTube and save yourself some time. Don't bother watching this film unless you are totally bored. |
