Der Baader Meinhof Komplex
by JensThe true story of terror attacks in Germany of the 1960s and 70s, performed by left extremists of the Red Army Fraction. While the movie is already two and a half hours long, it would have needed even another hour to deliver the background for people not familiar with this part of Germany's history. Especially the end comes rather suddenly and should have some explanations added for foreign audiences. That being said, the film does a great job in bringing this time back to life by rushing through the most important events in a really exciting and interesting way, following the most important characters on both sides of the law. The cast reads like a who is who of current German cinema, the performances are all around great, especially by Moritz Bleibtreu as terrorist leader Andreas Baader. By using montages with original news footage and music, delivering some of the strongest scenes, the film manages to sum up the mood, thread, ideas and emotions involved at that time really well. It just shows what happened, without judging or taking either the terrorists' or the law's side. A great history lesson, but probably hard to consume without some more background information.
Hey, you should really see this if you are interested in recent German history. While it surely works as a political action thriller, it might require some more knowledge of German and world politics of the 1960s and 70s to be fully understood and appreciated.

Taken
by ThelmaExcellent thriller about a dad who hunts down men who have kidnapped his daughter. Disturbing content at times, where young girls are kidnapped and sold into the sex trade.

How to Lose Friends & Alienate People
by ThelmaUnlikely rom com. Simon Pegg is Sydney a journalist who is always trying to crash the celeb party. See what lengths he will go to. The trailer shows all the best parts but it is still funny all the way through.

Burn After Reading
by JensAfter the dead serious "No Country for Old Men" the Coen brothers return to lighter material, without entirely giving up their love for grotesque humor and sudden violence, think "Fargo". The soundtrack also remains serious, hinting at a political thriller. But in the end it's a bizarre comedy. Their biggest assets in this film are a script that starts out slow but soon becomes entirely unpredictable and more exciting every minute and a great cast of big names delivering wonderful performances for their ridiculously stupid and obnoxious characters. The end sums it up so well, all is said and done, yet nothing solved, some but not everyone got what they deserved and a few didn't even make it there. To watch the path leading there is a lot of fun, though.
Hey, you should really see this if you enjoy the Coen brothers' work or other bizarre comedies.

RocknRolla
by ThelmaIt's not as good as Guy Ritchie's other movies but it has an interesting and intertwined plot to keep you focused. There are lots of characters to follow from a dodgy councillor, Russian mobster to other shifty underworld criminals. Some violence and drug scenes. Gerard Butler has the best scenes. I love the dancing scenes with Bob and also with the Accountant and the Russians that won't die (very Misery-like)!
