The World's Fastest Indian (2005,  PG-13)
The World's Fastest Indian
One of the best 'feel good' movies ever reminding us of the joys of life and of the pursuit of dreams.
Anthony Hopkins outshines all the other actors by far leading in this true story of an eccentric lovable-old-rogue mechanic.
An air of tension is masterfully maintained throughout the film which is directed and shot superbly.
Much recommended viewing for all the family.
2
Gandhi (1982,  PG)
3
12 Angry Men (1997,  PG-13)
12 Angry Men
A superb example of exactly how quality story writing and skilled acting alone can produce a masterpiece of cinema.

Mongol
A historically accurate portrayal of the life of Genghis Khan, featuring superb cinematography, brilliant action & fight-scenes, great direction, second-to-none acting AND fabulously haunting music... a superb film in other words!

9
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964,  PG)
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
An all-time classic masterpiece of satire and paranoia about the possibility of nuclear war.
Peter Sellers is superb in three leading roles, with most of his lines having been improvised.
Also featuring James Earl Jones for the first time on the big screen this film is a definite for anyone who likes great acting, suspense and a great storyline.
10
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006,  R)
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
A masterpiece of contrasts... a beautifully disgusting, innocently evil, depressingly awe-inspiring story.
11
The Libertine (2006,  R)
The Libertine
A chillingly dark and deep tale about the value of life. Featuring superb acting, scenery and cinematography.
This film left me with a powerful message of how important lessons can be learned from stories, and from the mistakes of others.
In this film the second Earl of Rochester (Depp) was ordered to create a literary masterpiece by his King. He does so but not by writing it but by living the mistakes for teh benefit of his audience.

Stranger Than Fiction (2006,  PG-13)
Stranger Than Fiction
Will Ferrell's best film without a doubt. The first film that not only did I find him bearable but enjoyable to watch.
The plot unfolds in quite a unique way and the acting is top notch. Much recommended viewing.

Into the Wild (2007,  R)
Into the Wild
Inspiring, entertaining, profound, captivating and much more... see it!

This film is an intriguingly quirky modern-day fairytale which tells a story full of subtle-suspense about purpose, hope and love.
20
Taxi Driver (1976,  R)
21
Goya's Ghosts (2007,  R)
Goya's Ghosts
A great movie and Natalie Portman's best performance, but a little misleading because it's not about Goya, he just happens to be in it as the narrator.

The Abyss (1989,  PG-13)
The Abyss
A film reflecting the vastness of unknown space, but hidden deep beneath the waters here on our own planet.
I didn't notice anything special about the acting but the cast haven't done this well before in my book!
33
Network (1976,  R)
34
Schindler's List (1993,  R)
35
The Protector (Tom yum goong) (Warrior King) (2005,  R)
36
Le Pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) (2001,  R)
Le Pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf)
A mind-blowing compendium of cinematic-genres bolstered by a refreshingly unexpected storyline.
Occasional acting shortfalls slipped by relatively unnoticed due to the convincing medieval sets & scenery, the military-explorer turned zoologist-philosopher, the native-american character and cultural influence, the east-meets-west martial-arts, never mind the supernatural plot twists...
Supremely entertaining.
37
Ong-Bak (Ong Bak: Muay Thai Warrior) (2005,  R)
38
Intacto (2002,  R)
39
Crank (2006,  R)
Crank
A movie to grab your attention and make you feel as if you've had a cup of coffee every 10mins while watching the film. Not a bedtime sleepy movie.
40
Chocolat (2000,  PG-13)
41
Easy Rider (1969,  R)
42
The Last King of Scotland (2006,  R)
The Last King of Scotland
Yet another stunning performance by Forest Whitaker, but not one his own this time. James McAvoy's performance is second to none in this engrossing storyline. Gillian Anderson successfully pulls off an English accent in a small role but the two stars make this film a classic to watch out for.

Event Horizon (1997,  R)

Side step and gimme some more of that Kansas City shuffle!

The Motorcycle Diaries (Diarios de Motocicleta) (2004,  R)
48
Lord of the Flies (1963,  Unrated)
49
Dead Man's Shoes (2006,  Unrated)
Dead Man's Shoes
Wow. A powerful, emotional, gritty, moving, scary and downright clever film.
Stunning performances all round, especially by Paddy Constantine, a superbly crafted story, accompanied by top class directing, cinematography and soundtrack.
50
Waking Life (2001,  R)
51
The Fountain (2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
A film about letting go, death, inspiration and hope. Several layers, twists and turns to the storyline entertain the mind... the cinematography and effects are wonderful... plus backed up by Hugh Jackman's best performance yet, I highly recommend Fountain.
52
V for Vendetta (2006,  R)
53
The Prestige (2006,  PG-13)
The Prestige
A movie with a similar feel to The Illusionist and equally as entertaining.
A great cast and an engrossing storyline really make this film, even if it didn't look as well as it does.
54
The Illusionist (2006,  PG-13)
55
The Butterfly Effect (2004,  R)
