Brüno (Bruno) Brüno (Bruno) R
Sure, it's like Borat in a way, but at least Borat had somewhat of a clear direction and goal. Bruno just meanders about aimlessly with seemingly no purpose. There are far fewer laughs in Bruno as well, with much more cringing, shrugging and eyebrow raising instead. The Bruno character is confusing, with his cultural misunderstandings being far more inexplicable. Additionally, the movie as a whole seems to not understand the difference between going "over the top" and actually being funny. They're not one and the same.
Rushmore Rushmore R
There apparently is a huge audience for stuff like this, but I'm certainly not included. This is a movie that is way more concerned with being quirky and different than being compelling, entertaining or developing any good, likable characters. The movie's also way too interested in blaring indie rock over a bunch of montages. It's as if you can almost hear the director or whomever yelling at you bragging about how awesome their taste in music is. The movie reminded me a bit of Juno in these ways... definitely a bad thing for me, but a good thing for a lot of other people, for whatever reason.
The "protagonist" is so unbelievably strange and unlikable, just a little more so than just about every other character. I guess what I don't understand is how so many people can like a movie that seems to be honestly portraying people's lives and social interactions, etc. as being so damn weird and seemingly so... detached from reality.

Aliens Aliens R
I think it the very greatest movie of all time, the best movie in two and arguably even three separate genres. James Cameron's work on this movie is just so freaking amazing. There's a very strong cast full of great personality and characters you really care about. Ripley is just such a champion. The sets look absolutely incredible. I admire all the hard work that had to be put in to making the scenery look great before CGI was an option. I love how the sets look so futuristic and yet so rugged and conceivable at the same time. Everything about the movie is just perfect. The musical score is great. The story is brilliant. The action is relentless. And the newfound relationship between Ripley and Newt, among other things, makes this more than just another mindless action movie. It is so deep, so touching, so monumental, so flawless, so incredible. I watch this movie like once a month.
