SATAN WAS A LADY was screened at New York's Anthology Film Archives as part of the 8th Annual New York Underground Film Festival.

Bare Behind Bars (a.k.a. A Prisão) isn't just one of those mindless "chicks-in-prison" flicks; it may be the original blueprint!

I gave the film 5 stars. The first half deserves 10! It is a highly existencialistic film. One of the best films ever made.

On a mission in the African desert, during the second world war, a group of British and American soldiers attack and destroy a German compound. Just as it looks like the allies have overtaken the base, they are captured by the surviving Germans and are taken to a desert prison camp. Nothing could have prepared the soldiers for the sick atrocities that they witness within the walls of the prison. Female prisoners are assaulted and tortured and the men are castrated. As the bodies pile up an escape plan is acted upon in the dead of night as a group of prisoners break out of the camp. The alarm sounds and the dogs are released. Will they make it to freedom?

This flick by writer/director/editor Lucifer Valentine 666 incorporates gore and vomit to take cinematic repulsion to a gutsy new levels. This film is totally over the top! Introducing independent director Lucifer Valentine; a self proclaimed satanist who has started his own gore soaked fetish cinema genre he calls "Vomit Gore". His first film,for our perverse delights is entitled "Slaughtered Vomit Dolls". A psychotic journey into a murderous mutilating mind filled with fetishes and sick tortures.
This surprisingly artsy film owes much of its success to the dead-on performance of its leading lady. Ameara Lavey is simply unforgettable in the part.

This Italian sexploitation horror just might have inspired The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Two stranded travelers wind up at a Gothic mansion where they meet their doppelgangers, encounter a massive spider and have lots of sex. Incredibly stunning Rita Calderoni is naked more often than not and adds a scorching scene of interracial lesbian sex and a hot bath scene to her list of activities, while her man wanders around aimlessly. There's also a servant girl who is totally nude during her exorcism as well as when she is being very brutally whipped all over the front of her totally naked form. With orgies, sadism, sex, Satan and more, it's highly exploitative and extremely sleazy fun... just the way we like it.

On his way to California, Jodie decides on a whim to make a brief side trip to a farm, where he meets and falls in love with Melissa, the proverbial farmer's daughter. Or so it seems. In between the overlong dramatic pauses, we learn that Melissa is in fact a 120-year-old witch, and her remarkably spry "great-grandmother," Lucinda, is actually her sister, who has been pitchforking people to death in her spare time. When Lucinda murders a local policeman, things start to get real complicated for Jodie.

This historical epic, a rarity for quirky Catalonian director Bigas Luna is quite an achievement. One which has been undeservedly maligned by many. Aitana Sanchez Gijon has been praised for her performance as the Duchess of Alba, having won the Best Actress award at the 1999 San Sebastian Film Festival. The rest of the stellar cast: Penelope Cruz, Jordi Moya', and Jorge Perugorria (as Goya) are at least adequate, and the art direction, and look of the movie are both breathtaking.

French star Isild Le Besco (L?intouchable/The Untouchable) gives her strongest performance to date as a Swiss nurse who seriously wounds a tempestuous teenager when she tries to commit suicide and then has to care for him daily in her hospital ward. The simple premise is effectively executed in an old-fashioned -- but never musty -- way that recalls the work of crime writers such as Patricia Highsmith who are more interested in the effects of crime on human behaviour than the crimes per se. The film very much deserves wider exposure at festivals and in European arthouses.

"Everyone says you don?t have problems with the dead," Frédérique or Fred (Le Besco) is told by one of her colleagues early on in the film. "Don?t believe everything they say," she replies dryly, only hours before going to see her ex boyfriend to say goodbye because she is going on a trip "somewhere" for an indefinite time. A champion sharpshooter in her youth, Fred has grown up to become a nurse who feels isolated enough from the world to decide that it might as well go on turning without her. When, on a secluded spot in the forest, the moment has come to pull the trigger, Fred shoots a young pest who has just used his sling on his schoolmate in the groves below instead.
Is it the shock of possibly having taken a life that does not belong to her that makes her feel alive, or the simple realisation that she could not possibly shoot herself? Whatever the reason, Fred has returned to the land of the living and takes up her daily routine again as if nothing has happened -- until she sees the victim turn up on her ward. Marco (Steven de Almeida) is a 14-year-old son of a divorced Portuguese mother (Lio) and a Swiss father (Yves Verhoeven) and has plenty of issues of his own, including uncontrollable outbursts of anger that soon make Fred?s colleagues turn their patient over to her.

A tranquil campground in rural France is the background for this erotic sizzler between bored, beautiful teenager Camille (Isild le Besco - A Tout de Suite, Sade), and a down on his luck ex con, Blaise (Denis Levant - The Lovers on the Bridge, Beau Travail ). Fresh out of prison, Blaise accepts a job as sailing instructor at the camp run by his brother in law, Eddie. Haunted by violent nightmares, scorned by the other campers and reminded daily of his estranged wife and children, Blaise tries mightily to resist Camille's charms. But the girl's spontaneity and nubile sexuality awaken Blaise's own repressed capacity for life. It's not long before this odd couple forge an erotic liaison that leads to deadly consequences for all concerned.

Let Me Die a Woman was a semi-serious attempt in 1978 by underground director Doris Wishman to film the attitudes and lifestyles of sexually confused individuals who want to change their gender. The film also enlisted the aid of Dr. Leo Wollman M.D. (surprise, surprise, he's actually a legitimate doctor), who relates case histories of individuals who have had sex changes and the problems they face. We do get to see an actual sex change take place (although most of it's covered with a surgical sponge) and witness numerous probes of newly constructed sex organs.

The first in a series of fetishistic mid-'60s exploitation features, White Slaves of Chinatown follows the beautiful, brutal Olga (Audrey Campbell) as she bends and eventually breaks the wills of a group of young female runaways and ex-convicts. Olga procures prostitutes and pushes heroin for the syndicate, confining and torturing her pretty victims in a private dungeon located in New York City's sinister Chinatown. Diplomat's daughter Frenchy is forced to write letters to her father asking for money when she's not squirming topless in her squalid cell. Lola and Collette are subjected to a variety of ordeals including stocks, crucifixions, cigarette burns, and Chinese water torture.

I love it!
More a poetic collage than a narrative story, GUMMO presents the viewer with a lavish feast of images--some disturbing, some gorgeous, all memorable. In the small impoverished town of Xenia, Ohio, Solomon (Jacob Reynolds) and Tummler (Nick Sutton) spend their teenage boyhood killing cats, sniffing glue, and generally trying to alleviate their boredom. The town's other residents find their own amusements. Solomon's mother (Linda Manz) tap-dances, local teen siren Dot (Chloë Sevigny) puts tape on her nipples, and Bunny Boy (Jacob Sewell) explores the desolate suburban landscape on his skateboard, wearing pink rabbit ears.
GUMMO's gritty realism is enhanced by director Harmony Korine's use of real locations in and around Nashville, Tennessee, and his use of nonprofessional local actors in many of the film's roles. These techniques harken back to filmmakers such as Werner Herzog and John Cassavetes, both of whom Korine cites as influences. Korine's willingness to explore the borderlands of feature filmmaking has resulted in a beautiful and challenging film whose haunting images remain long after it's over.

Laurel and Emma are sisters, two young women who are, for a change, extremely happy exactly where they are, which is in a college town in the Blue Mountains of Australia. Their happiness is rudely ended when their mother, Anna, decides to relocate them to the spare and (to the girls) grossly uninteresting bush country of Australia. Their new school is extremely backwards and boring, and what is worse, their mother seems to have grown quite erratic, given to emotional fits and bouts of drinking. They lack the experience and imagination, perhaps, to understand the toll World War II is taking on her.

The true tale of one of the biggest scandals ever to rock Las Vegas. The owner of the world famous Horseshoe Casino, Ted Binion (Matthew Modine) was one of the most powerful men in Sin City. But sin got the best of Ted when he fell scorching stripper Sandy Murphy (Mena Suvari). Caught up in a web of drugs and deception, noted heroin user Binion suffers a suspicious overdose that is quickly classified as a homicide.
As Binion's sister Becky (Marcia Gay Harden) works overtime to prevent the case from going cold, Sandy and her boyfriend (Johnathon Schaech) race to solve the mystery and prove their innocence.

Despite being subtitled "The Ted Binion Scandal," "Sex & Lies in Sin City" focuses on Sandy (Suvari), the stripper that Las Vegas casino heir Binion (Matthew Modine) hooks up with in an old-fashioned scene of love at first pole dance.
Mena Suvari walking down some stairs and onto a strip club dance floor in a pair of very short shorts and fishnet stockings, a tied-off blue top, and small fringed jacket. She does a sexy dance around a stripper's pole for a bit, showing off her nice butt before she catches the eye of a guy in the audience. She then steps off the stage and gives the guy a lap dance, offering more nice views of her butt in the tiny shorts.
Fond of 10-gallon hats, snorting heroin and lusty laughs of "Ha-ha-HAH!," Binion is smitten by Sandy, which irritates his sister Becky (Marcia Gay Harden), who snarls about her brother shacking up with a "gold-diggin', booty-shakin' whore."

A Certain Sacrifice is the singer Madonna's first movie, made in September 1979. .
Madonna played the part of Bruna, a Lower East Side resident who lives with three "love slaves" (one male, one female, one transgender). Bruna meets Dashiell (Pattnosh) in the water fountain in Washington Square Park and the two "fall in love". Bruna tells her lovers she doesn't need them anymore. They attack her sexually (this scene caused controversy since Madonna is topless LOL). Later, Bruna is raped by Raymond Hall (Kurtz) in a bathroom at a coffee shop. To exact retribution, Bruna enlists her love slaves and Dashiell to abduct the rapist. They dress up as hookers and lure him into a limo. They lead him to a theatre where a Satanic sacrifice is performed. Dashiell laters wipes Raymond's blood all over Bruna.
In 1985, A Certain Sacrifice was released on video to capitalize on Madonna's fame.

The movie is about a group of scientists who try to track down and trap a killer alien before she successfully mates with a human male.

The alien is the result of the SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) program. Earth's scientists sent out transmissions with information about Earth and its inhabitants, DNA structure etc, in hopes of finding life beyond Earth. They then receive transmissions from an alien source on how to create endless fuel effortlessly. Therefore, the scientists assume that this is a friendly alien species. But from a second alien transmission, the scientists receive information about an alien DNA along with instructions on how to splice it with human DNA. A government team led by Xavier Fitch (Kingsley) goes forward with the genetic experiment hoping to induce a female with "docile" traits. One of the hundred experimental ova produces a girl named Sil, who looks like a normal human but develops into a 12-year old (played by Michelle Williams) in 3 months.
Sil's rapid development makes the scientists consider her a threat. They try to kill her using toxic gas but instead she breaks out of her containment cell and escapes out into the world. The government assembles a team composed of anthropologist Dr. Stephen Arden (Molina), molecular biologist Dr. Laura Baker (Helgenberger), empath Dan Smithson (Whitaker) and assassin/tracker Press Lennox (Madsen) to track and destroy Sil.
Sil matures rapidly into an adult (Henstridge) in her early twenties with supermodel good looks. This makes tracking her extremely difficult. She is incredibly strong and intelligent with amazing regenerative powers. For instance, after an accident, she is knocked unconscious and breaks her scapula, but to a doctor's amazement, it heals before his eyes. The scientists fear she may mate with human males and produce offspring that could eliminate the human race. Sil doesn't have any inhibitions when it comes to killing people who get in her way and wants to produce offspring as soon as possible. She frequently morphs into her alien form?a bipedal creature with tentacles on her shoulders and back.
Sil tries first to mate with a man she meets at a night club, but rejects and kills him after sensing that he is diabetic. She then tries to mate with a man she meets after a car accident; this is interrupted by Lennox and Baker. She kills the man and flees into a forest without being seen by the team.
She then takes an attraction to Lennox and attempts to seduce him (no one able to recognise her because she cut her hair and dyed it brown) but sees that he's in love with Baker. She eventually copulates with Dr. Arden who doesn't recognise her as well; then kills him when he realises who she is. The tracking team then follow her into the sewers where Fitch is killed and a cave where she and her offspring are destroyed. The last scene shows a rat chewing on one of Sil's severed tentacles; it starts to mutate into a vicious beast and attacks another rat.
The creature was created and designed by Swiss artist H. R. Giger, who also created the creatures in the Alien films.
