With an interesting cast and hardcore performances comes a good cop thriller that nearly feels realistic.

There is nothing moral or politically correct about this movie... its all about being a bad ass, corruption and loyalty to your fellow officers. But what happens if you fall in so deep, while being an alcoholic and having the rep of being the most violent cop on town, with Internal Affairs breathing down your back.... what do you do?? Especially when you are implicated in your old partner's brutal assassination. Especially when your old partner was ratting you out to Internal Affairs. Thats motive, mate.

Anyways, welcome to the dark side of law enforcement. Even when the scenes are during the day, it still feels like it is dark as night... or dark as evil. We once again see the lines between law and justice blurred with illegality, meet cops who are experts are walking the tightrope of corruption.

Im not a Keanu Reeves fan, but he did OKAY in the movie. But its most probably because I liked the whole idea of the movie itself. The other cast of course are excellent, from Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie (HOUSE! XD) and surprisingly, Chris Evans, whom I usually think is just another short stripping wannabe, but he may have some talent after all.

Anyways, the movie is not too brutal, a bit graphic, but we've seen much worse. Also, I don't think its been pushed as far as it could have gone. This movie had so much potential... but its flawed. It comes on hard... then backs off as if the Director was scared to go over the edge. It doesn't finish real well, which is disappointing and nothing really stands out. Except for the fact that this is a really dirty cop movie, which is the reason I'm drawn to it.

Its a movie that made a big splash when it came out, due to minimal but effective marketing but will (probably already has), disappeared into the wilderness of Hollywood movies that come and go.

Watch it once, and then it automatically leaves your mind the next day.

This is an excellent piece of drama, which delves into the skewered world of the legal and penal system. Injustice is rife... emotions and humanity is nil. I guess this is one of the best prison movies you will ever see.

Honestly, it is a dark, sad tale of our system failing an honest man and his family. And when he serves his sentence, we see how his life is torn apart over and over again... to breaking point. Along the way, he befriends a "lifer" who schools him in the way of prison life and the rules to survive in the pen. One a hardened con with no chance, another grasping at the last straws of hope and humanity... before the corrupt prison guards and the other cons turn him into an animal with a number.

Im a student of criminology and the legal system, and have strong views on punishment. This is a great example of the system corrupt, humanity, honesty and morality lost on both sides of the law. It makes you wonder how can we live in a society when we fail those who fall wayward of our rules, so that they do not learn, they do not accept responsibility, they do not repent? And of course, what happens when the people we entrust to uphold our laws and serve us and the inmates, fail at their duty?

It is said that our society can be judged and evaluated according to how we run our prisons. Obviously this is not a 100% accurate view of our prisons... but Im sure that its not far off. Which kinda makes me very nervous.

I am a big Dorff and Kilmer fan, both have my respects as great actors, very underrated. They noth are all class and talent, thats why they make movies like this. Their performances were great. Kilmer stole the show as the devastated, cold, brutal Smith, a man with no future, forever indebted to serve his time and suffer a great emotional injustice... which is not recieving the death penalty so that he can reunite with his dead family. A philosopher and mentor, respected and feared by his peers, Kilmer is excellent (though he has aged terribly)

Anyways, its hardcore raw film-making. Handheld cameras are used a lot, but I thought it gave it a realistic effect to the whole nature of the movie. It picked up pace real quick in the beginning, and moves fast, so its not boring at all. It does explore the nature of being human, a criminal, and our conceptions of justice and law... and then simply, what is right or wrong. Halfway through, it became simpler, and I guess this enabled it to finish strongly with a happy ending.

Remember, this is just a story, but as we had Prison Break on TV purely for entertainment, Felon is entertaining but also wakes us up and makes us see and feel what men go through in prison, how life is drastically different to our world.

    Two thumbs up. Enjoy!

Everyone's favourite, cigar smoking, horned. giant red monkey is back!

    XD

Im a big Guilmero Del Toro fan, and after the huge success and the painstaking effort of Pan's Labyrinth, its good to see him kick back and make something more enjoyable to the masses....

I firmly believed the original Hellboy movie to be one of the best comic to movie adaptations ever. As far as sequels go, tits more looser, funnier and enjoyable. I guess because of its outlandish idea and the great background story makes this work... plus the fact its enjoyable and it comes through the performances of the stars and the overall movie itself. Its not as great as the first... but its a definite keeper.

I mean come on, Hellboy and Sabian getting drunk and singing "Can't Live without you" together... this is purely entertainment value and it doesn't fails... it has its dramatic bits, while serving up some traditional whoop ass.

Of course, Del Toro's costumes and graphic designs are the key players... and its awesome. Jim Henson has nothing on him when it comes to the abnormal.

Anyways, for me, the movie works. The right amount of thrills, kills and monster costumes... some were laughable, but they looked real good. The music was good, atmospheric and worked well. The stunts and action were top notch.... see it for yourself.

Anyways, the only thing was the story did drag in a few places, but thats the way it is. And I'm glad that Del Toro left the movie open for a possible sequel.... the destiny of Hellboy is still in doubt, plus that other "little" surprises. XD

Anyways, what made me give it four stars? Pretty much I dont mind watching this again. Its got good rewatch value, its definitely not boring for 90% of the time.

    Enjoy!

Certainly the only movie to match or even better its predecessor.

The Godfather 2 carries on after the Five Families War, and the Corleones are now unchallengeable and control all the gmabling in the US, their home base in Nevada. Michael Corleone is trying to legitimise his family and power, but the dark underworld begins to pull him back in, and soon he is forced to unleash the the full force of his power and tactical genius inherited from his famous father. But the bloody war in the underworld is only half the problem, as Michael struggles to also save his family from destruction, and makes the most damaging choices of his life that will haunt him forever.

Through the movie, we flash back to the early 1900's, we see Vito Andolini arrive in the US and become the legendary Vito Corleone, the GODFATHER, and his rise to power and quest for revenge against the Don responsible for his family's death. Struggling in the streets as a child and growing up with his best friend Genco Abandando, young Vito meets and befriends the young Clemenza and Tessio and all together, they form a friendship and Family that will become the most powerful Family in the United States.

Anyways... .what can I say?? Pure brilliance. I managed to get the Coppola Restoration box set, and the experience is...... unimaginably perfect. I cannot stress how GOOD this new box set is compared to the predecessors. It is without a doubt, the DVD collection of all time.

Certainly the movies to watch before you die.

Yeah, this was a great action sleeper like I predicted. Simple, straightforward, and of course... bad to the bone.

It was cool watching Liam Neeson play the bad ass like he did in Batman Begins, tearing up Paris in search of his daughter, and kicking ass real good, young action actors like Bale and Damon should be wary of the older guys, they can still whoop ass. And in Neeson's case, whooping ass was just the beginning.

Anyways, If you are a Luc Besson fan, of course you would love this. In the tradition of all his movies such as The Transporter series and Unleashed, and with some nice touch's from The Bourne series and other flicks like Ronin, this is a really solid and well crafted movie.

Basically, as an estranged, paranoid and slightly unstable ex-covert operative, Neeson is trying to rebuild his life with his daughter and reluctantly consents to her taking a trip to Paris with a friend. But as soon as she gets there, she is kidnapped by a group dealing in human slave trade.

With time running out and very little clues, Neeson takes the first plane out and begins to deliver on the promise he made to the kidnappers, namely to search, find and kill them.

And he does. With a extreme prejudice. Emphasis on extreme.

Its not a matter graphical violence and claret painting the street red, rather its Neeson's excellent performance and the cold, unnatural brutality and his relentless hunt which carries the movie through. And mixed with some real good action, you will enjoy it. No fancy wire work or unbelievable stunts, just good, effective action based on a realist view.

I loved the hand to hand fight in the end with the Arab knife man, it ranks high on my action list, but pretty much its like seeing Jason Bourne or Jason Statham in action. Im not gonna toss in my opinion on which is better,...

but this is the dark horse action flick of the year. Its not about the box office and the hype, its all about the movie. It does seem similar to the movies I mentioned above, but the simplicity and the dark theme surrounding it, plus Neeson's craftmanship makes it stand out.

The Dark Knight The Dark Knight

Well again we have the year of the sequels - Indy, X files, Hellboy, the Mummy3. And Prequel (I saw the trailer for the Clone Wars)

And again we have the year of the Hype. Though this year there has been too much talk and hot air for my tastes, and it stinks and bad after taste is usually the end result. Indiana Jones... kaput. IPhone... meh. The Dark Knight?? Well, lets see what i have to say in my review.

Now, I don't hand out 5 stars like some typical know-nothing movie goer... it takes a lot to impress me. When I first heared that Heath Ledger was gonna play The Joker a couple years back, I was kinda skeptical. I mean, Im a fan of Heath, I saw him rise in fame and the movies from his beginning... and I thought, naaah, he certainly couldnt pull it off to my expectations. Jack Nicholson topped a few bad guy lists back since 1991, it was usually a toss up between him and Big Arnie (Terminator) and maybe Tony Montana. Everyone had varied views. And when it comes to bad guys, Im probably one of the most critical. I love bad guys, bad ass and a disappointing bad guy can ruin the entire film.

But Im glad to say that I was wrong. Though there are a few similarities to Ole Jack's Joker, it was a different Joker on the screen which stole the show. And pretty much I loved every second of it. Its a great shame Heath died, this would have solidified his reputation as one of the best actors for the rest of his career. Noone else could have pulled the Joker off with such conviction it scared a few movie goers. But then again, I kinda suspect that Heath died due to overdosing on meds, because seriously, a role like that could drive anyone insane. But whats done is done and gone... and this would be his greatest legacy. (Aside from his little girl)

Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine... the A-list cast of the year. Im sure you are all familiar with all of them except Aaron Eckhart, who completed the trio. He is the anti-Batman and Joker character both as Harvey Dent and Two-Face... he brought a balance to the movie and a great character to the screen... a hero who fell. A great concept.

Well anyways, the movie itself. Now, I have a concept about certain movies like this. I call them "Dangerous" movies... for the obvious reason. I LOVE DANGEROUS MOVIES. This is the most dangerous movie of the year. The decade?? The original Batman was voted the movie of the 1980's. The Dark Knight the movie of the 2000's?? Yeah why not? It certainly gets my vote for the most dangerous movie of the 2000's. Some would say Rambo instead, but it takes more than just graphic violence and body bits to make a dangerous movie, it takes great acting, directing, no expectation and all surprise and shock beyond normality. The Dark Knight is all that and then some - thanks to Chris Nolan and Heath. Then throw in a little bit of humor and some great cinematics (and with tanker loads of dynamite and gasoline XD)... and some good classic moments which define the action/thriller genre (I loved it when the Joker pulls out the rocket launcher to teach some smart assed cops that you never underestimate the Clown Prince of Crime - he will ALWAYS have a bigger gun)

It was a dark flick... but then again, its Batman, so don't complain. It was long... but hey, if the massess can sit for 3 hours plus for Lord of the Rings (3 times) and the Harry Potter series (around 7 times for the whole series) then why should people complain? Id rather sit for three hours and watch a modern masterpiece of comic book legends I grew up with rather than a series of books of a boy wizard I have no love for.... and I won't criticise LOTR, but I wouldn't even need to flip the coin. It would be Batman every single time. So no, the usual grip that people have about the length... no it wasnt a problem for me.

Anyways... this movie has set many levels and standards, and it would be interesting to see how future movies would compare, as far as the artistry is concerned. Cause this is a definite top 10 movie for any serious movie buff.

As Im typing this, The Dark Knight in it's opening week made 158Mil in the US. and its number 225 in the top 250 of all time box office list WORLDWIDE. Let see how its goes for the next month eh? ^___^

Anyways... there is only one movie this year in my eyes which can hope to win the battle of the sequels now (I saw the trailer at the Dark Knight). Come November 27th, Bond is planning to take down The Dark Knight. 007 for the new millenium is a bad ass, so don't think its gonna take this lying down. For those of you who think Bond couldn't possibly beat the Dark Knight this year... well the numbers show that 007 wins out. And after the mega success of Casino Royale, and watching the trailer of Quantum of Solace, the pairing of Rocky vs Muhammed Ali is nothing compared to this showdown. And I love a great fight.

And right now, the Mummy 3 and Hellboy 2 two are arm wrestling over the action/adventure of the year title. Its a great time for movies people.
This movie restores my belief and hope for great sequels. And for a kick ass, shock stun and mind blowing cinematic experience.

Not Will Smith's best movie, but its not really him, its just the fact that was an easy going, enjoyable flick to watch over and over again. XD!!

A real twist of the superhero movie, with some twist and turns, and some great lines and its funny enough... its a good night out, and something people would love to watch. I guess Will Smith and Charlize are the kind of actors people love to watch on screen, they make it look so easy and they are comfortable, which is why the movie pulls it off so well.

Anyways, not much detail for review needed here, its a simple movie to watch, great performances, good jokes and moments, and something out of the ordinary. Which is something I guess all of us would like to see more of these days in the movies.

    A real unique movie.

An interesting piece of film-making... which is pretty entertaining. Once you get past the sleazy and shameless sex, you would realise that it actually made some sense as to the WHY. Based on a true story of sorts, its an interesting take on the Baker Street Bank Robbery which caused a sensation and had Parliment and MI5 going nuts.

Jason Statham goes back home and back in time to 1971 as a small time criminal who tried to hit the big time by robbing Lloyd's Bank and hits big trouble in the form of government scandals, corruption and just about everyone from the MI5 to a local porn king/gangster AND a psychotic Rasta drug dealer out to nail him and his crew.

I guess the great thing about this movie was the authenticity. 1971 London does come alive, and its not something we see often in movies these days, seeing a world city in a different time, not so far back as to call it ancient history, but more so enough to appreciate what its like and how everything has changed radically, from cars to technology to clothing and styles and lifestyle.

You have to appreciate the story and the tension which the crew go through. This is one of Statham's better movies, and the rest of the cast are..... British. XD

Yeah its the same ole thing for all you guys who don't understand a world of the British language. If you could get past the language or are familiar with it (like me) then you can follow the movie quite easily. Which is something else which I liked about it. Its not meant to be an all out twister, a movie trying to out do itself and others of higher grade, but a simple reworking of an event brought to the big screen with a few thrills along the way. In the tradition of movies such as The Italian Job, The Score and other tales of thieves, this would have to be on of the better flicks to watch.

Yeaaahhhh. A good ole brutal, bloody, shameless (on all levels) Brit gangster movie.

Which also happens to be the a real good authentic biography of one of Englands most brutal and toughest criminals, Carlton Leach. Hell YEAH!

This follows the the beginning of Leach's criminal career, starting as a football hooligan with the Inter City Firm (West Ham FC... Green Street anyone?) to Carlton running his own firm in the 80's as protection and enforcement, and the early 90's events leading to the infamous Rettendon Murders in 1995, the victims being some of Leach's associates.

There is some real gangster history in this, and t does make Green Street Hooligans and others such as Goodfellas look kinda tame when it comes to violence. Its good ole fashioned english brutality at its best, from bats and bricks and guns and fists.

You would probably need subtitles if you have trouble deciphering the Brit speak. And of course, get ready to meet some of the most colorful, as well as craziest thugs ever seen in the movies. Which happened to be based on real people.

I still couldnt believe how the characters [protrayed in this flick represented real people... the movie was based on Carlton Leach's bio.

Its got some real graphic scenes... especially when the guns go off on the Rettendon murder scenes.

O__O! (im serious, its brutal as - you actual see some good rendition of faces in the aftermath of meeting a 12 guage at point blank.)

There is some lessons to be learned here. Carlton's narrative isstraightforward and to the point. The scenes are good and explicit though, and of course, since based on true events, its got some actual news clips and such in the movie.

Anyways, if you love the gangster, the blood, the guts and the swearing and the sex, yeah you in for a good night.

(hey whats ive been learning for the last six years...)

Anyways, whats not to like about this movie? Smart, edgy, cool and the action is in Vegas. That automatically gives it 3 stars. XD!!

What gives it the extra star?? Well, a good cast with some admirable names like Spacey and Fishburne. A good story with a nice twist in the works.

Well... unless you like movies like the Ocean's series, you wont like this. Those with a high morale who avoid the great, addictive and absolutely fun VICE of gambling would love it.

Honestly, its not that hard to count cards. The system in the movie is tough because its a freelance system, which is supposed to reduce the risks of getting caught. But hey, go online and play some blackjack, learn how to count and see for yourself, it really does work!

(and who says movies don't teach us anything???? ;-))

A unique movie, though the rewinds and the different views can get annoying when you have to revisit the events after the third time...

But then again, its how the movie works. Call it fate, and the fate of everyone involved as they come together and how you unravel the clues hidden in the 5 points of view to piece together whats going on... but it really doesnt begin to be conclusive until you get to the 4th Vantage Point.

Anyways, what I liked about this movie:

    1. Scenery. Spain rocks. I wanna go someday... looks great even though I just saw a small part of the city, the sky is great and love the atmosphere, Gotta love Spain in the movies.

    2. The stars. Yep, it was a great cast with some of my personal favourites, the top pick obviously Dennis Quaid, one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood. He's been in the game for years, and hasn't really gotten the success he deserves. He won't get it in this movie, but I think its about time the big shots started giving him more kudos. If you really wanna see him at his best, watch SAVIOUR.

    3. The car chase. Yep, the set piece for this flick was the cool car chase. Nothing outrageous or over the top, but a nice, near realistic car chase, similar to the ones in the Bourne series or perhaps Ronin... the car chase is great one.

Anyways, for something different in movie style, but a good thrill ride, not great, but good, this is okay.

Yeah, its good to see Owen Wilson back on the screen after his problems. And though this isnt his best movie, I like his charm and style which comes through for him.

This is an odd movie... he plays an Army deserter/bum hired to protect three kids from the "very" psychotic bully (emphasis on psychotic!! Man, its America!) and of course as the fat kid said, "Your name is Drillbit cause you screw people!"

    XD!

Anyways, its a good one off laugh, nothing special really, but funny enough, though it does put bullying bakc in perspective, mentioning the many Youtube videos on school fights, samurai swords etc etc....

kinda inflated and ridiculous at times, but meh, watch it once and laugh your head off.

Loved the music soundtrack in it, and the fat kid reminds me of a young Jonah Hill (fat guy from Superbad) XD!!
