This movie shocked me with its quality. The storyline is excellent - simple and straight forward. The story has no ending and you realize this while watching the movie. I still feel some of the scenes are overly dramatized (consider the cigarette lighting scene), But it does not hinder the perfect artistic nature of this beautiful movie. Also the Score of this movie which is equally emphasizing the comical behaviors of the town folks and the silent sorrows of malena at the same time. The irony of the story, is that only Renato, a young boy who cannot help Malena, knows that she is a good person and that she was forced to do many of the things even to survive. |

| Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime) - PG-13 | The animation is spectacular, and unusual, with new elements even for Miyazake and marks a new departure for style which you can see continued in his next film, Sen to Chihiro - more nature, more wild, more jamming on elements from Japanese myth and folklore. And, continuing the trend to be more personal, concerned with ethics and character, and less sci-fi.
