In this movie Jennifer Connelly is about the hottest and most beautiful female ever commited to film. She's breathtaking. Overall the movie rings hollow in that what starts as an interesting character study in to all things "John Hughes" about High School peer class level turns super DUMB when 2 bumbling thiefs enter the picture. This fairly lame movie will be timeless if anything for Connelly's devastating appearance. TOO DAMN HOTTT !!!
Middle of the road remake, that of course, has nothing to do with the original film. A great example of how Hollywood shoplifts a "brand" to then do whatever the hell it wants with it. This is a paint by numbers Zombie flick. No suprises. It is very over the top corny with Zombies always leaping and jumping and running at "faster then human" speed. Cracked me up the way Zombies just changed within seconds with all the flesh on there body festering up instantly. DUMB. Not the worst Zombie flick, but not too great either. Nick Cannon = SUPER dumb.
QT is in rare form here. Very different, almost tame, for him. A great fantasy revenge movie. The way that Christoph Waltz played with the people he was interrogating was fantastic. Pitt was hilarious in full hick mode. "AND I WANT MY SKALPS". and fell in love with Melanie Laurent. The devil is in the details with this film. It's in the slight extended pause as Waltz would drink milk and smile before going in for the kill. Very tight script. My ONLY complaint would be that I didn't buy the LACK of heavy and tight security around Hitler and the Nazi Command. But then again.. this is a fantasy.
This is all kinds of BAD in many ways, but I do salute Simon Hunter for being extremely ambitious.. to a point where it's measly budget cannot live up it's the vision. There's an interesting plot in there somewhere that sadly gets snuffed out under the weight of cheesy digital blood, hideous and uneven pacing and laugh out loud atrocious acting. While I think this "cheap behemoth" could possibly develop a cult follow I don't think that it's ready for prme time by a long shot. It's too bad really, as I think that there are promising elements to it. I am interested to see where Simon Hunter goes next. File under Coulda Been.
Had a total blast with this. lots of good laughs. A higher quality comedy than most of the moronic crap we see today. Loved that we never saw the actual events of the night until the photos in the closing credits. great tip of the hat to Rain Man as well. MUCH FUN !!!
Absurd, ridiculous, over the top and pure fun!! Get ready to howl out loud at this farce. Bruno is more brutal than Borat in that it really piles drives the "hard-R" humor to a new level.. seriously.. I'm talking full c*ck shots filling the entire screen. The movie exists to offend anyone and everyone.. and thats what makes it gold. My favorite part of the film is more in line with how Bruno was played when he was a recurrent sketch on DA ALI G SHOW, when Bruno interview's people and in the line of questioning makes them look like complete jack-asses, unbeknownst to them. I think Baron Cohen is a master comedian beyond the normal stated sense though in that his films are more of a social experiment/statement on the state of prejudice and other issues. GLAAD has come out against this film which I think is a ridiculous mistake. This film, more than any Ive seen, really displays open prejudice in a way that cannot be denied. Funny yet with a statement and NOT stereotypical... ITS A JOKE FOLKS !!! lighten up. The Camp scene is killer!
They steal everything from Christian theology, suck anything having to do with God out, recast Angels as nice ( but creepy) Aliens.. and POOF you have your self the Secular Rapture. Even only the "elect", ie chosen ascend from doomed Earth in the end. Pathetic. I also found the movie rather brutal in going full bore to show people suffering and being killed in a series of disasters. For the plot we didnt NEED to see the suffering.. but becauise they wanted us to see people BURN and BRUN and BURN again they felt it necessary to force you to absorb as much human suffering and destruction as possible. What a let down from Alex pryas.. but yet another flamming turd from Nick Cage on his continued path of garbage movies.
A comfortable and small film about an expectant couple looking where to set down roots. Nice performances all around. If you like Krasinsky (from the Office) you'll like him even more after this. On one level the film is about WHERE to live but on a deeper level it's about WHO you are going to be to your children. A definite smaller and quieter film for Sam Mendes, who is obviously more interested in digging deeper into character than in to plot. Some of the folksy music got on my nerves after awhile but not enough to kill the comfortable slice of life quest that these 2 soon-to-be parents are on.
MUCH better, in my opinion, than the HIDEOUSLY MORONIC 1st film.... but still moronic. Briillant, amazing, breathtaking CGI FX is, as usual, marred by humor only an 8 year old boy could appreciate. I have to admit I laughed a couple of times. DOH! I will talk more about this on an eventual Saloon episode, as I do have MUCH to say. I guess my most pressing issue is simply my shock at the critical destruction of this film when the first one was to a certain degree praised by many of the same critics who are killing it. More than anything it shows me how lost film criticism is in this country. Again.. Im not championing this film but its a great example of truly how OFF the majority of "film critics" are.
Yes, the premise is ridiculous, but beyond that, I definitely enjoyed this light comedy. Great role for Costner who has always been one of my favorite actors. Nice message with a perfect ending. Enjoyable, simple and sweet. The Faux Political Commercials alone are worth the watch.
Very funny comedy/farce which also shares a brutal message about race relations in the late 60s/early 70s. This is actually the first Melvin Van Peebles film I have seen. I look forward to more of his voice in his other films, especially in relation to the time in which the films were created. The ending is un-forgiving with it's message and really ends on a powerful note.
As expected Pixar triumphs yet again with a wonderful addition to their perfect library. There is alot being said underneath this film about how we live and things we must do if we have any hope for a future. Some have taken offense to this in-your-face scolding of the "American Lifestyle", but I think the message is strong and sound and needs a little bit of telling. Andrew Stanton again shows that he, Brad Bird and John Lassiter and the 3 Musketeers of animation. Beautiful thomas Newman score, as usual. Very nice, sweet and vital film.
I finally took the plunge and watched it. I didn't hate it. I was led to believe it was the worst crap in history. Wrong. Yes, its most definitely a chick flick. It also has wrinkles in Vampire Mythology you would never expect. I mean vampire Baseball? WTF? Yea, kinda silly, killy kinda dumb in spots, but completely watchable, at least to see where the story takes us. I have noit read these books.. but such a reluctant Vampire as Edward is reminds me of Anne Rice's epic Vampire Novels, which I read most of. It never rises to that level in anyway... but for the teen crowd this is Lestat lite. Anyways.. I dont know.. did like carter Burwell's score, but thats a given. Didn't hate, didn't love it.
Only the Japaneese can make a good GODZILLA movie. Had a great time with this. Sure, the MAN IN SUIT effects are cheesy compared to bog time Hollywood FX, but the intent is great AND I enjoy the sense of scale and scope. Godzilla looks KA-FRIGGIN-HUGE, and that is something Hollywood blows it on. SCOPE. Make it feel BIG. Enjoy the story as well, although it was the same story we've scene in every GODZILLA movie mostly.. GOdzilla protects Tokyo from the evil OTHER Monster. Great fun to be had here.
Meh. I will always love Tony Scott's bend on things, but ultimately this remake is hollow. I like the attempt at crafting interesting characters for Washington and Travolta, but sadly they get lost and the movie fizzles toward the end. I felt no menace from Travolta's "Ryder" as well. He did bad things, but then his dialogue felt corny and forced. James Gandolfini as the Mayor of NYC was a waste. Nice score by Harry Gregson-Williams. In the end unless, like me, you are a Tony Scott fan you may not get much more out of this than C-grade a mindless caper film.
Re-watched this for the first time in many years. WOW! I forgot how much this movies stinks. Toobad, because the centrail idea is very interesting. Sharon Stone is hideously miscast and bad in this. This movie is an embarresent.
It never reaches the level of Terminator and Terminator 2 by a mile but I still think there is enough of what makes Terminator films good to please me. Fantastic set pieces and a "guest appearance" by a previous Terminator make the film. Yes, there are some things I might do differently but overall I was somewhat pleased with how this turned out.
Quirky, aimless doc. with glorious footage shot under the ice in Antarctica. Since this free flowing piece never really aims to "say" anything it just comes across as a mildly interesting travel log about the people who live and work in Antarctica. Strip the amazing footage away and this feels hollow and pointless. This might work better if you stripped out the interviews and just ran music over the Anterctic photography.
I hated this... and it has everything to do with my Trekkie past. Sorry, you just cant refill those shoes and blaze up a new nifty remake for the UN-Trekkies and make me happy. Terrible music score. Just really left me feeling betrayed and almost like I saw a parody film.
