Jared Leto and Marlon Wayans are great. Marlon should do more drama. Jennifer Connelly is sad. The party scene still makes my stomach churn. What people will do for drugs never ceases to amaze me.
Absolutely one of the best vampire movies I have ever seen. Won 18 awards & 2 nominations These two child actors blow away any American child star. I recently read that Hollywood is going to remake this. Please let it be a lie. They will ruin a beautiful and haunting movie. There is no way it could ever hope to capture the magic of this one. Just dub it for people who don't want to read subtitles and leave it at that!
There are some truly disturbing scenes, but this is not exploitation. As I watched, I wondered just who is really evil? Vampires? Or humans and what we do to each other?
It's heartfelt and beautiful...gory and shocking. The pool scene I will not soon forget, and the ending was just perfect.
Strange, creepy, and weird. I love Scott Glenn. The "love" scene with Scott Glenn was magical. Also a Jürgen Prochnow fan. Gabriel Byrne was great as an SS Officer.
The performances by Blair Brown and William Hurt are raw and completely authentic. If you are a "thinker," this film is for you. A two time watch movie.
Hellraiser is one of British horror writer Clive Barker's most successfully adapted novels. It is full of gore, sex and indecision. Clive at his best, I say.
Spawning many sequels, the first is still the best.
I liked the political aspect. You could substitute the TB remedy for an AIDS drug. I would not doubt in the slightest this goes on in the pooer countries every day. Good movie.
AWESOME!! Words cannot describe it. Made me go home and look up all info on the Spartans. They REALLY did look like that. They treated their women with respect. Women owned property, wore what they wanted, and went where they pleased. Also, adultery was not heard of among Spartan men. I will buy this one. See it in IMAX, and it's even better.
I thought the concept of hell being in a black hole was original. I like a movie that I have to rewind to see things I missed at first. Creepy. I loved it.
If you are looking for the traditional flesh-eating zombies, they are not here. What is here is psychological horror, and if you have a fear of being buried alive, don't rent this one.
Exceptionally well-made, deadly serious horror film. Martin Sheen delivers an honest and genuine performance. The facial blemish scene is scary as hell.
One of the best Japanese movies I've seen. It's a strange thriller/ love story/sci-fi. Watch out for that mitochondrial DNA. Riona Hazuki is one of the most beautiful women in the world.
From Tom Tryon's book. A book reviewer of the time said the shock he recieved upon the discovery made on pg.196 of the novel (hard back) was the most jolting and surprising he had ever had. Today you may see the end coming. But, you have to remember this was made in '72 before the Sixth Sense, etc. No one had seen anything like this.
I was only a little girl when I saw this movie. Terrence Stamp became my crush. I wanted to grow up and find a boyfriend like him. Of course when I grew up and watched it again, I knew that might not be the best choice. Julie Christie was magnificent.
This is not a masterpiece, just a nice erotic high-concept thriller well worth seeking out. Supporting actor David Caruso, who is magnificently evil early in his career, is a plus.
This dark and unnerving horror outing based on a story by Clive Barker and directed by Bernard Rose has quite rightly earned a reputation as one of the best horror films of the Nineties. My niece and I actually flew to Chicago and went to Cabrini Green. I later moved to Chicago. Forget the sequels.
A two and a half hour documentary on the history and development of the American corporation and how it achieved its current state of world domination might seem like a recipe for a very dry and dull movie experience. Not at all. I was riveted from beginning to end. I checked my watch a couple of times because I couldn't believe that such a stunning pitch could be maintained for so long.
There are almost too many powerful scenes to recall. The major one for me is the psychiatrist listing the traits of a psychopath and having every single one of them checked off as perfectly describing a corporation (since a corporation is legally a person). A Corporate CEO describing how what he does should be illegal.....and he can't believe it's not. The news reporters who were fired from FOX for not agreeing to report a lie.
To dismiss this as merely "left-wing scaremongering" is missing the point. What this film presents are facts about who has real power in the modern world, and every citizen who gives a damn about the future of the world we live in has a duty to educate themselves as to what it is being done in the name of enormous financial gains for a very small elite of unbelievably greedy and selfish men.
One of the "subplots" that didn't make the final cut was about a children's festival where the Canadian singer/ children's entertainer Raffi was due to give a concert. Upon entering the festival, parents were greeted by a mocked-up KIA car showroom that would inevitably get the children excited as they were allowed to play in the cars, whilst being given KIA merchandise. The presence of this corporate employment of children pester power to be directed at their parents so disgusted Raffi that he pulled out of the concert. One of the reasons this segment was not included was that the film-makers were denied the opportunity to film the KIA showroom, and the handheld footage that they shot secretly wasn't good enough to be used in the final film.
There is waaay too much in here to describe it all. Just go see it.
'Blood On Satan's Claw' is the finest horror film produced in Britain in the '70's. See this for Linda Hayden's sexually charged performance as a Satan-loving teenager. The group-rape scene controlled by the ghastly eyes of Hayden is still shocking, even by today's standards.
A new documentary about Darfur by award-winning filmmaker Paul Freedman, and narrated by George Clooney......covering the frustration felt by African Union troops at their inability to protect Darfurians due the strict restrictions of their mandate; the UN non-intervention because of China and other countries with oil interests in Sudan who veto resolutions for intervention; and the breakdown of the media in reporting on the crisis in Darfur.
I watched this with my family and cried. The media covered Martha Stewarts cheating and lying, and Janet Jackson's "breast" incident for hundreds of hours, yet only gives the bare minimum for so many innocent people being slaughtered. I hang my head in shame.
To be truthful I wasn't even going to see this one until a friend recommended it. WOW. Amazing movie. I cried, I laughed, I loved the music. I, too, was skeptical of covers of Beatles songs, but I was blown away. I will see this one again!
At first viewing, this is confusing and fast paced. The dialogue can be hard to decipher. On a second and third look, it is amazing. You see things you didn't even catch the first time around! I was not thrilled at all with Collin Farrell as Sonny at first. He surprised me. Gong Li is amazing as she always is. I loved the little "head nod" thing she and Sonny had going throughout the movie. The soundtrack is awesome!!!!!!
The only disappointment I had was with the role of Castillo. Although I knew the cast was not supposed to be exactly like the TV series, they could have done a much better job of choosing an actor to fill those shoes. I'm not saying Barry Shabaka Henley is not a good actor, just not in this role. I watched this movie for the 5th time last night...this time in HD, and I must say it is awesome! The scenery, the characters, the site locations (very good commentary about this in the extended director's cut DVD) all come together, if you PAY ATTENTION, to bring you a most satisfying and rewarding experience. I want a sequel.
Heath was amazing. Chilling. Why so serious? Because it needed to be this time. This is the "serious" one! No canned laughter this time out....only Joker's haunting, hysterical glee.
Gordon (Oldman) got more screen time, and I was happy. He is an amazing actor. While I found myself paying more attention to Bale's underbite than what he was saying, the movie lived up to the hype. Now all I want to see is who will play the bad, dirty, evil, serious Catwoman this time.....hmmmm
A wonderful movie that should be mandatory for all school-kids to see. Directed by Denzel and produced by Oprah, this was amazing. Forest Whitaker was awesome as always.
Watching that 14 yo (Whose name is Denzel Whitaker...strange coincidence) debate at Harvard was very moving. I also liked seeing the photos of the "real" characters at the end credits.
The film takes place in Haiti in the late 70's and is about three older single women visiting a beach resort to take advantage of the sun, sea, sand, and young Haitian men. I loved this film. It feels very French in its tasteful restraint. Actual sex is never shown, yet it is every bit as titilating as if it were. This movie asks questions you didn't want to think about and turns perceptions around. The sad revelations at the end of the film say a lot about human nature will keep the film in your mind.
In honor of Black History Month, everyone should see this very moving and heartfelt film, based on a true story about a white teacher in South Carolina who traveled to an island off the coast of Beaufort to teach African American children. I lived in South Carolina and knew of his story. Great movie.
