Doubt is based on the stage play by John Patrick Shanley, who also wrote and directed this film. It tells the story of Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the fear-inspiring principal of the Saint Nicholas Church School, who suffers an extreme dislike for the popular parish priest Father Flynn. Looking for wrongdoing in every corner, Sister Aloysius believes she's uncovered the ultimate sin when she hears Father Flynn has taken a special interest in a troubled boy. But without proof, the only thing certain is doubt.
Meryl Streep really brings a fierce intensity to her character, portraying a menacing and threatening woman who brings fear upon those who encounter her. She is clearly a brave and fearless actress and she displays an intense acting ability in this film. Anne Hathaway is sensational, and a wonderful young actress capable of nearly anything. | The Last House on the Left - R |
The Last House On The Left is a remake of the 1972 horror film written and directed by Wes Craven, this remake is directed by Dennis Iliadis. It tells the story of a gang led by a prison escapee who kidnap and brutally assault two young girls and unknowingly find refuge at a vacation home belonging to the parents of one of their victims - a mother and father planning to get their revenge.
Garret Dillahunt is an actor I knew nothing about before seeing this film, and after seeing this film I immediately looked him up to find everything else he has been involved in. Dillahunt is simply spectacular as the lead gang member, his performance is wonderfully sadistic and just plain evil. I was extremely impressed by Garret and will definitely seek out everything he's been in, thats how impressed I was with his performance. Garret Dillahunt is sensational. Tony Goldwyn, who is also a director, is an actor I have always respected and admired. His performance in this film is spectacular. He really captured the emotional turmoil and anger of his character extremely well, and Monica Potter was just as good as the grieving mother. Goldwyn and Potter are simply breathtaking and give emotionally charged performances. Sara Paxton is a beautiful and immensely gifted young actress with an innocent, girl-next-door charm which makes her very enjoyable to watch. Her performance is emotionally charged and realistic, I did not expect to be so impressed by her. Paxton is wonderful. Dennis Iliadis is a director who has directed only one other film before this entitled Hardcore, which I havent seen so I cant really comment on this directors talent. Dennis hasnt been around long enough for me to have an opinion on him. However, I will say that he did an outstanding job with this film. He skillfully built up tension and suspense throughout this film, without resorting to cheesy jump-out-of-your-seat scares that American has unfortunately become so used to. Dennis is a director I would like to see make many more films. The Last House On The Left is simply the best remake ever made. Its not just a horror film, its a brutal morality tale about ordinary people being pushed to their breaking point and taking extreme action against those who hurt someone they love. I did not expect to like this film as much as I did. Its quite brutal and unpleasantly sadistic, but that is more than necessary for this film. Last House is more than mere torture porn or anything of that kind, this film is a thrilling and suspenseful thriller with exceptional performances and flawless direction from a new director. The Last House On The Left is a masterful horror film, which I rarely say about films of this genre. Last House is spectacular. This film is absolutely sensational... |

The Island is an imaginative and highly compelling action film from Michael Bay, the director of Pearl Harbor and Armageddon. It tells the story of the residents of an isolated, high-tech compound who eventually discover that they are actually clones being used for organ donation, and are worth more dead than alive. They stage a daring escape, battling an unfamiliar environment and an armed team of mercenaries in hot pursuit. Johansson is a delight to watch and im sure that she will become one of the most respected actresses around. Her stunning good looks and charming personality make her a very enjoyable actress. Michael Bay is a director who is known for making overly kinetic and extremely fast paced action films, which is exactly what this film is. Bay is a skilled filmmaker who unfortunately is only capable of one thing: staging explosive and intense action sequences with wonderful set pieces. Michael Bay is not one of my favorite directors simply because this is the only film of his that impressed me, however I will say that he has an exeptional filmmaking ability that was brought to its full potential in this film, and this film only. The Island is one of the most entertaining, compelling, and imaginative action films I have ever seen. The story is complex and actually seems plausible, and the performances are phenomenal. Christian Bale is by far the best Batman in the history of the franchise. He really captures the character in a way that no other actor before him has. Bale perfectly displays the emotional and tormented side of Batman as well as the sensitive and vulnerable side. Bale's performance is absolutely flawless. His ability to be boyishly charming and completely evil has shined several times throughout his career. If you have seen most of his past work, then you should know exactly what I mean. Christian Bale is a master of his craft. Gary Oldman is simply incredible as Jim Gordon and Michael Caine is phenomenal. Oldman and Caine are beyond impressive and give mesmerizing performances. Caine is a wickedly fun actor who never fails to impress me, and Oldman is such an intense and compelling actor. Maggie Gyllenhaal replaces Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes and in my opinion is much more impressive than Holmes. Gyllenhaal adds much more emotion to her character, which was something Holmes wasnt quite capable of. Aaron Eckhart is a standout here as Harvey Dent, who is better known as Two Face. Eckhart captures the relentless, committed, and passionate nature of his character extremely well and I was more than impressed by him. Eckhart is spellbinding. What more can be said about Heath Ledger's performance? Simply put, Ledger's performance is one of the most compelling, shocking, intense, and impressive performances in cinematic history. There is literally no way of describing how awesome his performance really is. Ledger perfectly captures the menacing, mysterious, sadistic, and brutal nature of The Joker and does so in a way that no other actor can. Ledger brings something special to the character, something Jack Nicholson was lacking. Nicholson's portrayal was too cartoonish, while Ledger's portrayal is simply terrifying. When the brothers journey into a real enchanted forest, they encounter a genuine fairy-tale with fantastic characters and thrilling situations much like the stories they have made up.

Heath Ledger's genuine charm is really what makes this film so enjoyable, his performance is simply a lot of fun. The character of Casanova is immensely romantic, extremely good looking, and delightfully charming, and Heath Ledger is perfect. He really captures the character in a way that no other actor could, which is what I love about his performances. He really makes the character his own. Sienna Miller is clearly more than a stunningly beautiful girl, she is an enjoyable and fun young actress. Ive seen some of her other work and I was extremely impressed with one film called Interview, she portrayed such a compelling character and showed an impressive acting ability in that film and this film as well. Jeremy Irons and Oliver Platt are wonderful as supporting characters. Platt adds much humor to the story and Irons is always a convincing villain. All of the performances are delightful. I fell in love with her the second I first saw her and I have not once been disappointed by her. Shannyn is beautiful and she clearly has a unique acting ability that I enjoy immensely. Her performance is wonderful. Brian Helgeland is a director whose body of work is quite interesting. He's directed three films that are completely different from one another, and has written many other films that have been praised by critics and movie-goers alike. This film is his most compelling film of his career as a director. Brian is a filmmaker who seems to like making something different with each film and I admire him for that. There are countless directors who arent adventurous enough to try something new and simply repeat and make the same film over and over again.
