| Halloween - R |
It was good. Murder scenes were quite ancient (mind you, this is '78) and funny because of the fangled sound effects.
A good marathon horror movie flick in conjunction with other films of this ilk, but I wouldn't watch it just on its own. I prefer more blood and guts. :D |

| Orphan - R |
Went to see this movie on a friend's rating of it. Kinda didn't know what to expect, but in the end, I'm very glad I went to see it.
It took a fair bit of winding up to get the full story going but when it did. it went into 'proper creepy' mode. You did have a feeling that the 9 year old wasn't all she seemed and at the end, you found out the truth! I thought that the lead character, Fuhrman, played the orphan brilliantly. She could give most of her adult actor/actress counterparts a run for her money. She certainly did with Farmiga and Sarsgaard (both of which I found increasingly annoying as the film went on). I also thought that the deaf girl, Max, played her part superbly too. According to some critics, it gives orphans a bad name. It's a movie. Get over it. I give this film four stars, as I'd quite happily buy this on DVD and watch it again. Probably not one of the best films I've seen, but in no way is it shabby either. |

Good for a laugh and easy to pick up even if you haven't seen the previous two films (like me).
Did have it's funny parts and kept you involved. |

| Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - PG |
This movie was actually quite boring.
Perhaps it's saving it's major epic special effects for the last movie. Although it kinda stuck to the book, it didn't do it the justice that it should have been done to. Good as a stepping stone, but the weakest in my opinion of the series so far. |

| G-Force - PG |
This movie was worth a giggle. Kids movies aren't my sort of thing usually, but immensed in 3D, I can bear it.
Did have a predictable plot line, but simple and made a chillout viewing. Probably would watch it on tv if it came round on sky, but wouldn't go out to buy it on DVD. |

| The Hangover - R |
I came to this movie with no expectations. To watch this movie, you have to do just that.
From the first minute or so of this movie, I knew I would be irritated, with the constant use of 'fuck' in it. It kinda tainted my view to the whole thing. It could be just as funny by halving the amount of swearing in it. First gripe over. The film was fun, moved swiftly and didn't need to work hard to make you laugh. I don't think it would have been as good though if it didn't have Alan in it. Alan, quite frankly is an out and out er, weirdo. But a nice one. :) Cue the tazers, babies, nasty girlfriend to 'doctordentistdude', evil Chinese dude who wants $80k and a wedding that may not happen and you get this film. Some of it I did find childish, but nevertheless it was jolly good fun. I give this film three stars. |

| Terminator Salvation - PG-13 |
Oh my gawdddd this film kicked some ass! A die hard terminator fan, I thought this was the best film of the year! Warning: Spoliers!
Quite a sad start, with the woman signing Marcus up on 'the plan' in the first decade of 2000 because he's a convicted criminal and she's dying of cancer and wants to make a difference before she dies. Fast forward to 2018 and the world's in complete disarray, with the terminator camp set up and a very limited number of people acting as the resistance. John Connor is leading the pack alongside some military dudes. They've infiltrated a zone and have found some humans abandoned. Then they all die because of a swift attack. John Connor is left alone in the desert wondering how the hell he'll get out when a terminator attacks him! The suddeness didn't half freak me out, even though you kinda expect it. Marcus on the other hand has come into a world where such destruction is alien for him. Thinking he's flagging down life, he waves at a figure standing at the other end of the street. Dum dum dummmmmmm... Yes you've guessed it, an evil looking robot is lurking, a C300/600 in fact! Then it's like rawrrr and goes guns blazing after Marcus. (I had to smile, the robot had boots, probably just in case his feet got cold!) Marcus is saved by Kyle Reese and Star (or it could be Storm, couldn't remember the little lass' name) who are lying low. They drop a heavy tonne weight upon our terminator friend and he goes pop bang. Blah blah blah, an escape plan is hatched and so on. They have to get to the resistance central, but Marcus wants to invade terminator central instead. I wonder why... Then comes the scene with the gas station and some humans who don't want to be part of the resistance, instead they just want to lay low and hope for the best. This big monster machine comes down and locates them all and puts them into a human container! Some try to escape, are blown up/shot in their vehicles. Marcus, Kyle and Star decide it'll be fun to try and blow the machine up from about ten million feet below it. They drive a big rig towards it full of fuel and aim to blow it up. It works! But it actually doesn't and the motorbikes are let free! Kyle and Star are eventually captured and Marcus falls from quite a distance into the murky water under the bridge. Kyle is later sorted out in the human farms and locked in a container unit because he was the primary target. More on that later. The resistance however are concerned with activity levels... but they've found that super high frequency actually disables the robots. Cue the fighter pilots acting as distractions so inflitration and testing on mass scale robots can begin. One fighter pilot, the woman, crashes and ends up stuck on a pilon. Marcus appears and there's a little spark of romance between the pilot and the murderer. hmm. Its only when, on the way back, that Marcus sets off the magnetic bombs in the mine field does John Connor make him realise that he is actually a robot and that they are sworn enemies and there's no trust. He also dislikes the pilot for letting this guy in. But seeing Marcus get tortured, as his metal ribs and body parts are exposed, the pilot feels sorry for him and helps him make an escape. The pilot is recaptured after a lengthy pursuit, but Marcus gets free. But John catches up with him and says that he either helps him get into terminator central or he gets killed there and then. Marcus agrees to help and inflitrates Skynet, only to find that what he has done actually relates to his robotic programming. His execution of the plans of Skynet's John Connor trap is perfect. Marcus feels guilty. You know the drill by now, Marcus is determined to change his ways from Skynet and wants to get Connor out alive. Connor wants Kyle because of blood ties and merry hell breaks loose. Then we had an Arnie lookalike! I was well pleased. It was the T800 wanting John Connor dead. John Connor meanwhile has freed Kyle and wants to blow up Skynet with the Terminator fuel cells. It was very reminiscent of T2 on this part; remember when Sarah and John Connor were trying to get away from the beasty made of liquid metal at the end in the factory? It was a bit more high tech! :) Anyway, escapes happen and John Connor is nearly dead. Kyle and Marcus bring him back to camp, where he lies on his death bed. His heart's about to give way from the stress of a T800 knackering the life outta him. Marcus does a good thing for his 'sworn enemy' and lets the camp kill him off to do a heart transplant. Kyle also gets told by John to wear the resistnace jacket cause he earnt it. Best bits: All of it haha! In general, this story was well put together, simple to understand and had enough heart pounding action to make you jump. I loved the moto-terminators (the bikes) and would quite like one for myself (but without the evil killing everyone bit). The cameo of Arnie made my day too. :) Worst bits: I wasn't so sure about Christian Bale being John Connor. Yes, he brought the gritiness needed to make this film dark, but, I just have this gut instinct that the character wasn't for him. Hard to describe it really. Overall, I give this movie 5 stars, because I would watch this film over and over and over again. Literally. :) |

| Journey to the Center of the Earth (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D) - PG |
This movie is probably one of the best forms of escapism that I have seen in a very long time.
When I first started watching this film (2D version, haven't got round to 3D yet), I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I'm not a massive fan of Brendan Fraser, yet he seemed to work well along side Hutcherson and Briem as a group of people who go after a transcript of work done by Hutcherson's screen dad and get trapped in a cave after a lighting storm makes them retreat in there. A manic mine train ride later (that should be cool to see 3D me thinks), they find a room which has all the sparklies a girl (or boy) could ever ask for! However, the floor isn't safe and they plunge to the centre of the earth! When they land, they see a world of gassy paradise... however, the land gets hot and quickly; as you'd expect from it being the Earth's core. Add in a bit of group splitting up, a cute blue bird CGI and a rather angry dinosaur, and you will get the movie. The escape was funny, them flying out of Mount Versuvius and into some old Italian bloke's back yard. Although everything described above seems a bit haphazard and farfetched, when it was on screen, it somehow made some insane sense. The CGI was fab, the cast worked well together and as I said, it made a great escapism movie from a long week. Not my normal choice of movie, but I would watch this movie again (just to see it 3D!!!). This movie isn't bad in the least, and that's why I think it deserves 3.5 stars. Lu :D May 16th 2009 |

| The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior - PG-13 |
OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT A DISGRACE.
It was that bad, I fell asleep before it came to the end. And that's not something I normally tend to do when I'm watching films. Where do we start? Poor geography? Raving loonies who suddenly become calm and don't fit into the story properly, stupidly weak CGI...? Poor geography: China or Japan? Egyptian or Greece? Please, four different countries, get it right!!! The Raving Loony: Yes, I'd be terrified if I got stuck in a maze with a beast after my blood too, and no doubt I'd be slightly :S that someone would come to save me. But instead of saying thanks in whatever language he was speaking, he runs off, only to join in all the fun (hahaha) later on. Poor guy has issues. CGI: Oh my feaking hell, this was a 2008 release, not a 1928 one! How come the minotaur is Egyptian? That's news to me, I always thought it was GREEK. Anyway, remember the old old old King Kong movie of yesteryear? The one that looked like it was a blob on your screen covered in sweet wrappers? The minotaur in this film looked exactly the same. The producers of this movie obviously thought that vintage was in. CGI is MODERN for Pete's sake. Get a grip. (Says me who's ranting!) The story itself??? - It lost me after I found out that the warrior's father had been slaughtered by the guy who the warrior was originally supposed to protect. He wants revenge and therefore goes traipsing over heaven and high water to do this. I think. The synopsis to this story claims it has heart stopping action. HAHA what a joke. Listening to the Chancellor of the Excheqour's budget list would be more heart stopping than this film! I can't think of ANY redeeming features. However, the only reason why I'm giving this HALF A STAR is the sheer fact that people actually got paid to produce such a diobollical mess of a film. Lu :D 15th May 2009 |

| X-Men Origins - Wolverine - PG-13 |
I thought this movie was quite good and overall, had a pretty rounded plotline to it which made sense.
The CGI in it was fab, especially when Wolverine comes flying off his bike when the FBI type dudes want to kill him and he ends up slaying them and then blowing up the helli-chopper for good measure. The flames made me go oooooo :O The fight scenes I thought were well constructed and the bit with the bullet splitting both ways was amusing. Even the scarface lookalike at the end was pretty darn good. Although not one of my favourite movies of all time, I still would watch it again when it comes out on DVD. Give this film a chance, even if you think - awrgh this dawns a spin off series for the greedy moviemakers- because I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! :) Lu :D 10th May 2009 |

| Knowing - PG-13 |
I thought this film was good, if not a bit creepy. I came out of the cinema suddenly worrying about life on earth and how preecious our lives are. It obviously had an impact then.
I think the thing that got me was the plane crash and train smash. The directors and producers of this film certainly have cores full of gore because they quite happily used CGI etc, to portray death (burning bodies/trains smashing into them etc), destruction and general things that surprisngly shocked me. I wouldn't truly consider myself to be some kind of mental hardcore-Rambo type person, but I did believe that I wouldn't be freaked by all that shizzle. Gees, how I was wrong. However, the contexts and concepts of this film did somehow interlink well with each other; blending sci-fi with religious tones. You have the sci-fi of these alien dudes talking to children, predicting the future which then came true and killed some more of our lot off. Then you have the religious concept at the end which was almost like the two children going to another planet which I thought seemed to reperesent the Garden of Eden. It then reverts back to sci-fi, making you think; did we actually arrive like that in the first place? Were our great great (go back zonks of generations) relatives derived from another planet? Creepy. I liked the concepts. I thought they went very well together and this was certainly a film that made you think. I loved the eerieness of the film, especially down in the overdose house, with the scriptures under the bed; it sent a chill down my spine alright! Even though I wasn't keen on seeing the charred dying people, I thought that the CGI was exceptional. Nicholas Cage put in a good performance. I didn't like the feeling it gave me when I left the cinema. It got to me. How much whisky and other alcaholic spirits could that film get through? They must have had a spare budget just for the booze! And there were those bodies. I can still see them now... :o Overall, I give this movie four stars. I don't think it deserves anymore, because I wouldn't class this as one I would quite happily watch over and over again... BUT... anything less than four stars, I reckon would be a crime. This is one film that had a definite conclusion and didn't leave you hanging in the balance. Two people got out to start life again. End of. Lu :D 17th April 2009 |

| The Wrestler - R |
A very slick movie, explaining the ups and downs of Randy "The Ram", a wrestler who suffers from a heart attack and desires to get back to wrestling for the final time.
Sad in some parts but there are hints of light heartedness as well to keep your attention. Considering I only watched this because I couldn't get a seat in MBV 3D, I really was impressed with this film. I'd def. buy this one when it came on DVD. |

| Yes Man - PG-13 |
I didn't think I'd be overly struck on this film, cause I'm not a massive Jim Carrey fan. But, I must admit, it was funny.
Carl Allen is a guy who pretty much turns down everything. That is until he meets his crazy mate who says YES to everything. He gets involved in a seminar and from there on he can't help but say yes. He meets a woman and because of his slap dash romance to everywhere (whilst learning a different language) gets arrested later on terrorist charges. Hmm. Can he win his women back? Can he learn to say NO again? You just have to watch it to find out! This is worth a watch and there were funny parts to it. Go see it, you might just be surprised. Lu :D |

| The Spirit - PG-13 |
First off, The Octopus had very good taste in boots. And all in all, this movie was pretty good, but in no way one of the best movies of this genre out there.
My my there were a lot of women in this film. It was like Wimbledon, but with the spirit being the tennis ball in a crazy city that the Octopus wants to destroy for his immortallity. The Spirit must fight for his NEW survival and for the protection of the city. THIS ONE'S FOR MUFFIN - this is probably the best lne in the film. Those eyes were wayyyy too wide for a cat though! Strange creature. On the whole, it catches the whole 40 feel and was good for letting reality pass you by for a while. However, I don't feel that anything in the film was as slick as other films in this genre. I'd still buy it on DVD when it came out though. Lu :D Jan 11 2009 |

| Terminator 2: Judgment Day - R |
Out of all the Terminator films, Judgement Day has got to be my favourite.
It's probably because it goes straight for the jugular - needing no introduction thanks to T1. Graphics wise, I can't believe this is 1991. Quite frankly, the graphics are just ace. Especially with the evil shape shifting cyborg. I love the chase scene down in the gully where the evil cyborg goes after a moped riding John Connor in a massive truck, and Arnie goes flying off the top of the concrete runway on his aqquired Harley to take cyborg #2 out. I love Linda Hamilton's fiestyness in this too as Sarah Connor. Again, it was fantastic. I truly love this movie. I'd quite happily watch this over and over if I could have the chance. | Quantum of Solace - PG-13 |
Right. 007 Quantum of Solace. Suddenly all grown up and no longer tongue in cheek. At all. But, with enough rubber burning, gun toting, blood and gut spilling action, this movie definitely had a charm about it. Apart from that blasted theme tune.
After new Bond's little bit on the side, Vesper, get's killed in Casino Royale, it's up to our Daniel Craig (sorry, Jambo Bond) to find out who's done it and why. Craig does give it is all in the way the action goes. The baddies def. have a flavour of the old time bond baddies. I was highly impressed with the plane chase/fight. I also loved the entrance car chase! The many ways to wreck an Aston Martin or few! I loved the flames and the fights at the conclusion of the film! I loved the nailbiting moment... is Bond truly gone in this flaming inferno? The producers def. went to town with all the effects on this one. My main rather pathetic gripe at this movie was the blasted theme tune. I absolutely HATED it. Flaming heck, get some people in who CAN SING and not WAIL down the microphone. My ears felt like they were bleeding at the start. Ahem. Anyway. I also felt like this movie wasn't as "fun" as the other Bonds. I use fun loosely because I must admit, as a stand alone, Daniel Craig style 2008 all singing all dancing Bond, it was great. But put it with the other Bonds, i.e. A View to A Kill, Moonraker etc. it seemed a lot more frown-lines and fist fights. Not like the traditional Bonds that I grew up on. So, as a stand alone film, I'd give it FOUR stars. However, because it's part of a Bond franchise and I think it's lost part of it's traditional charm (sorry, hasn't won me over this seriousness), I'm going to give this film THREE AND A HALF stars. :) Lu :D 20th November 2008 |
