Boy A Boy A R
Based on a novel by Jonathan Trigell.
This is the story about young ex-con Jack. Jack grew up as someone else; a boy with a father who didn't care and a mother feeling so sorry for herself that she couldn't care less about her child. Things build on each other. Jack ended up in prison together with his only friend for brutishly murdering a young girl. Now he's out again. A new person. He's Jack now.
This film is a powerful coming-of-age drama that raises difficult questions about modern day morality. Does one deserve a second chance in life? Who decides what one deserves? Is everyone entitled to love? Can people change?
Andrew Garfield is perfect and Peter Mullen is fantastic and the most gripping moment in the film is still the scene where the character Jack keeps repeating "I'm not that boy. I'm not that boy. I'm not that boy" to himself as to convince himself of it.
Available on Channel4.com's 4oD at the moment.

Fight Club Fight Club R
So incredibly funny, an extremely black comedy with a twist. You've got to have a special kind of humor to like this and take it the right way, the way David Fincher intended you to see it. It's not about fighting, it's about life in all it's misery and madness. So what can I say? This is an excellent movie, it's smart, visually amazing, the colours are fantastic, it's funny, this script is so sharp you could cut yourself on Tyler Durdens words and tongue over and over again. It's far better than the book! Sorry Chuck...
The Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai) The Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai) Unrated
A poor village in feudal Japan is terrorized by a gang of bandits and therefore decides to hire samurai to protect them and their crops. Seriously, I was 11 when I saw this film the first time and I've loved it ever since. It's funny, deep, beautiful, impressing - it's a true masterpiece. Kurosawa was the master of creating and exploring believable characters for his films and this is no exception. As a child of 11 I thought that Toshiro Mifune was fantastic but so was the rest of the samurai in the film, but my favorite was, and will always be, Takashi Shimura (here starring as Kambei). Needless to say that this is still one of my favourite movies and also my favourite Kurosawa movie so far. For anyone liking Seven Samurai I can also recommend the anime Samurai7; an animated steampunk version.
