Strangely, this movie reminded me of Little Miss Sunshine - of people just living their lives the way they know how. Nothing pretentious, but a simple feel good movie with great actors.
Very different take on aliens on earth. Can't believe this is Blomkamp's directorial debut for a feature film. Great character development and unique way to tell a story. There are lots of ways to look at the issues brought up in the film - whether you want to discuss the Holocaust, apartheid or terrorism.
The pacing was way to slow, even if I was watching this in 1982. I can see why it's a cult classic that inspired a lot of sci-fi films to this day. But Harrison Ford does nothing for me, I find him rather dry and boring and it's sad considering that we're talking about Han Solo and Indiana Jones. You'll have to really love sci-fi to like Blade Runner but I do applaud Ridley Scott for attempt to fold in the complex themes into the characters, but Blade Runner is not my cup of tea. Although, my favorite scenes are the ones with JF Sebastian in the Bradbury Building - love the dark & weird elements.
Movie was a let-down. Pacing was bad, camera work gave me a headache and under-developed characters. There was no chemistry between the two leads Bale and Depp, although Cotilard deserves a pat on the back. Such a pity, I really wanted to like the movie considering Depp & Bale are two of my favorite actors.
