About Me
80s fantasy/sci-fi movie lover and RPG junkie. Obsessed with Disney, in love with Final Fantasy, crazy for Kingdom Hearts. Likes pretty ball gowns, whooshy capes, and swordfights. Swashbuckle!

TV shows I watch (more or less): Xena, Charmed, Smallville, Stargate SG-1, Heroes, Supernatural...

Bands/Singers I like: Barenaked Ladies, Goo Goo Dolls, Coldplay, U2, Evanescence, Savage Garden, Matchbox 20/Rob Thomas, Sarah McLachlan, Bryan Adams...

Please don't assume I love anime just because I love video games. They are not the same thing - so don't treat them like they are. Anime has yet to win me over, but I'm still willing to give it a chance. It's better to judge my tastes by the info I have posted here, the pictures on my profile, and my "Favorite Movies" list. Keep that in mind if you want me as a friend.

I also happen to be the Swashbuckling Princess of the VG Forum Sanctuary, a title I'm very proud of. I make very tricky quizzes. And sometimes I make skins. Whee.

What FF7: Advent Children Character Are You?

How long have I been in this storm?
So overwhelmed by the ocean's shapeless form
Water's getting harder to tread
With these waves crashing over my head

If I could just see you
Everything would be all right
If I'd see you
This darkness would turn to light

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost into your eyes
I know everything will be alright
I know everything is alright

Iron Man Iron Man PG-13 4.0 Stars
This was another pick-a-random-movie-to-see-at-the-theatre affair - but unlike most of those fiascos, this one turned out much better than I expected. Though I really like superhero movies, I hadn't heard of Iron Man until recently (I'm more of a DC girl than a Marvel girl, that's why), so I didn't know what to expect. I was thinking it might turn out to be a lame-ass Fantastic Four-like flick (don't get me started on that first Fantastic Four movie), but it was anything but. It was hilarious - possibly the funniest superhero movie I've seen since 1966 Batman. But unlike Batman, it wasn't corny, so-bad-it's-good-funny - it was legit, witty-funny. I never pictured Robert Downey Jr as a superhero, but he's PERFECT. And hilarious - especially during the equipment test scenes - I love the fire extinguisher robot! And this humor was nicely balanced with all the serious action and the serious (though never annoyingly blatant) "Weapons are BAAAD" message. My only quibble with the movie is its final line - which suggests Iron Man will suffer the same fatal flaw (at least in my eyes) as the Fantastic Four franchise. This is no Superman 2 or Spider-Man 2, but it's MILES better than Batman Begins (blarg) or the Fantastic Four, and anyone who likes superheroes in the slightest should go see this.
Ocean's Thirteen Ocean's Thirteen PG-13 3.0 Stars
I was a little apprehensive of seeing this after Ocean's 12, which was so bad that I don't even remember what the heck happened in that movie. This one's thankfully more in the style of Ocean's 11, which I liked for its slickness and how all the little puzzle pieces just fit together perfectly. This one... not as slick. It takes a while to sort out what's going on, and how each little task these guys take on will help them achieve the big goal. That remains kinda fuzzy till you see the final operation in action. But it was still fun to watch. What was missing was close calls. There were moments in the first where I thought, "Oh crap, they're screwed" even though they manage to pull it off. But in this one - not so much. Once they sorted out what they were doing, it was pretty much a done deal. So it was lacking a little in the suspense department, but overall a pretty good movie - especially if you liked the first one.
The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising PG 2.0 Stars
Because this is an adaptation of the sequel of one of the books on my "Worst Books Ever" list (aka "Over Sea, Under Stone" or the "robbers-are-breaking-into-our-house-so-let's-drink-tea" book), I wasn't screaming desperate to see it. But Christopher Eccleston was in it, and yeah, I watch Doctor Who and Heroes too much, so I had to see it. Couldn't be worse than the book, could it? Apparently it could. I watched it with my mom, who painstakingly pointed out every single inconsistency in this movie. So she was talking nonstop about it until it put her to sleep. Though I couldn't tell what was true to the book and what wasn't, I felt the movie was flawed regardless. The biggest, all-encompassing flaw was that the movie was far too short for the amount of information it needed to get across. That meant ZERO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. So there was a lot of "Who the heck is that?" "What are they doing?" and mostly "Why should I care?" As "Seeker of the Signs" Will's looking for... well, signs that will renew Light's strength, I guess. Unfortunately, we never learn what's so special about each of these signs or why they are where they are - it's all just "Oh, look, another sign just popped out of nowhere for no reason! How convenient!" And then we have the whole witch subplot that's extraneous to the book and doesn't go anywhere. Even Chris Eccleston is flat, but it's not his fault. The dialogue is boring and chopped up so much that we have the basic information and no chance to absorb it before the next important fact is presented. Bottom line - live-action fantasy movies - especially ones adapted from books - should never NEVER be less than an hour and a half long. This was bending that rule at the hour and a half mark, so everything felt like it was moving on fast forward, sort of like when you hit "Fast Play" on your DVD player, and you can still sort of understand what's going on, but it's all very jumpy and incoherent, like a silent movie action sequence. The ONLY reason I'm giving this more than one star is because of its cinematography and special effects. Most action sequences are filmed at odd angles and alternate between regular speed and slow motion - but it all feels seamless, not forced (at least in most cases). In other words, it's eye candy. Too bad it has no substance. So unless you like empty pretty things, give this a pass, otherwise you'll get nothing out of it other than a certain Ace of Base song stuck in your head. "I saw the siiign, and it opened up my eyes. I saw the siiiign."
Die Hard With a Vengeance (Die Hard 3) Die Hard With a Vengeance (Die Hard 3) R 4.0 Stars
I know I've arrived onto the Die Hard scene at least a decade too late, but I've decided I REALLY like these movies. This one is by no means as good as the first, but it outdoes the second (which, given the similar situation, felt kind of stale after the first one), and keeps a good balance between humour and action. And it's chock full of Jeremy Irons creepiness. Whee! I'm not usually one for big stupid action movies, but these are fast becoming favourites of mine - so far, I like them better than Bourne and Lethal Weapon - and now I can't wait to see the fourth one. Bring on Live Free or Die Hard! Yippee-ki-yay!
The Fugitive The Fugitive PG-13 3.0 Stars
This is my screenplay writing instructor's second-favourite movie to yab about, and since I hadn't seen it at the time, I was a little out of the loop. He made it sound really really good. Was it? Mmm... not sure. I don't think so. It had all the Harrison Ford goodness, but I guess since I already mostly knew what was going to happen, I wasn't exactly surprised or on the edge of my seat or anything like that. I was actually falling asleep a bit towards the end, so yeah, I might have been too tired to fully appreciate it, but other movies have managed to keep me awake in such a situation. This one didn't. But it's a classic, I guess, and therefore worth a watch. It's not bad, just not as good as I thought it would be.
Twilight Twilight Unrated Want To See
Guess I should really read the books, huh? Though one would hope it's not all hype, like *ahem* Eragon.

The first foreign film I've watched. And it certainly won't be the last.

Plot: In feudal China, the King of Qin is waging a bloody campaign to conquer the entire land. He has been made a target of three dangerous assassins: spear-wielding Sky, and the lovers Broken Sword and Flying Snow. One day word comes that he has nothing left to fear; a prefect known only as Nameless has killed all three assassins. Nameless is called to the palace and asked to recount the tale of how he accomplished this amazing feat. After he tells his story, however, the King notices some flaws in it.

Doesn't sound like a film I would enjoy, seeing the plot. But, the way it was performed was flawless.

A true masterpiece. Even if you do have to watch like a deaf person.
Most of you on my friends list have seen this, and the review sucks. But whatever.

Surprisingly good! I actually haven't enjoyed a super hero movie as much as I enjoyed this one. This is a genuine popcorn flick (it's no Batman Begins but it definitely beats any Spiderman movie I have ever seen.)

I think it was the ending that was the clincher for me. I just loved it. Best ending to a movie I may have ever seen!

Iron Man always having been one of my favorite Marvel heroes I waited a long time for this movie and thankfully it did not let me down. Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark, delivering hilarious lines by the dozen as arrogant, rich asshole and yet makes you care for the character. It's this humor that actually makes this movie so much more enjoyable than most of the recent superhero flicks. Jeff Bridges, almost unrecognizable without hair, is a wonderful sleazy and greedy antagonist and the rest of the cast just as excellent. Stark's development and change of front is believable and well acted, the special effects outstanding. The plot is full of little hints and jokes for the Marvel fans, Stan Lee returns for another mini appearance. The awesome scene after the credits even makes me hope for my favorite Marvel project possibly coming true sometime soon. As for this movie: the most fun I had with superheroes since the X-Men films. I want more and soon.

This should have one best picture. It is an AMAZING film. The whitty banter in this movie is just stunning. It reminded me a lot of the conversations that me and my school friends had. Real and compelling and just all around good. DO NOT MISS THIS MOVIE!

I haven't had this much fun watching a movie in a VERY long while. It reminded me of the old 80s movies I loved to watch so much, like Karate Kid and Labyrinth mixed together. AWESOME! If not a little bit corney, but that made it that much more fun to watch.

Okay, so I've got stuff to tell you!

    1. Good luck on your exams!

    2. So I got the game for Ashley but I think it might be wrong now! I got Final Fantasy XII. Yeah you wanted VII. Should I return it?

    3. Okay I am uber excited for the next two things! First U23D finally came to Edmonton! I've been waiting since Feburary for it! We have to go- not till after exams but we should. It's the cheapest way we'll ever see U2! In 3D!

    4. So the Jubilee announced their new season! And it is: Stomp (meh), Spamalot (more you than me), Annie (I'd rather slit my wrists), Cats (I am so going again, I've wanted to since 4th grade- I went then but I don't remember) and HAISPRAY!!!! We are so going! It's either end of September or start of November or something like that- and I mixed up with Cats but it's coming this Fall, here! Tell your Mummy! We are going! I am going to be so busy with live acts: Cirque in June, Hairspray and Cats in the fall and Wizard of OZ in the spring!

Yeah honestly I don't care if you see this...

But this was the easiest way for me to send everyone a message that I am no longer accepting widgets. I've hated them from the start but I dealt with it for as long as they've existed, even when excessive amounts would hide relevant conversations and when the music became a sweltering nuisance and when any attempt to delete them would freeze my computer.

Pllleeeaaasseeee, unless it's a very personal widget, made by you for viewing by me, do not send me widgets.

    Thank you everyones. :)

    Titus Titus
    3.5 Stars by Jens
A very post modern version of one of Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedies, with all the well known ingredients: betrayal, murder, intrigues, revenge and revenge for revenge, really mean villains and broken heroes. The set and prop design refuses to be entirely antique or modern and mixes old ruins with motorcycles, guns with armor, which makes for a really gorgeous, unique look. The cinematography of the film is just as beautiful, the soundtrack changes from classic drama scores to catchy jazz tunes, which creates some rather strong changes in mood. It's the rather bizarre and oddly humorous and symbolic scenes that do not quite work as well as the rest of this great adaption, but that's only a small minority of the whole 155 minutes. The whole cast gives really strong performances and when Titus reveals his final plot of revenge it's quite clear why Anthony Hopkins is truly perfect for the role, considering who else he played in movie history...
Heavy, bloody and weird stuff but in the end very rewarding for Shakespeare fans with an open mind for new interpretations, just like Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet.
Hey, you should really see this if you enjoyed Baz Luhrman's Romeo and Juliet and enjoy modern Shakespeare adaptions.
