Pulp Fiction
R
The first time I watched Pulp Fiction, I hated it. I had no idea what it was about. And I also wondered where it was going. I never figured the trickiness of director Quentin Tarantino. The second time I saw it, I loved it. Of course, the second time I saw it was three years later (1997). After seeing it again, I saw the brilliant direction of Tarantino and how skillful he really is. The plot, being a shapeless mass of matter, has no real direction, which normaly destroys a film. However, the jumping from one story to another and back is truly original and almost hard to keep up with. This film keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen next more than just the first time you see it.

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl
PG-13
It is an exquisite work of fantasy and inventiveness, a true classic, on the order of "The Wizard of Oz." A great adventure. Well played swordfighting. Great laughs. Great music. And great story. Pirates are back in my good book.
3.
Forrest Gump
PG-13
The film was wonderfully directed and acted by a great cast on all levels. The movie has it all too, drama, comedy and it challenges societal norms as well. Run Forrest Run!
4.
Braveheart
R
This enthralling movie Braveheart takes a viewer's breath away. The invigorating battle scenes, the incredible acting, and the fierce power of love all captivated me when I first saw this movie. A must see!
5.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
PG-13
The movie is visually stunning - the CGI is top rate and you won't spend the whole film groaning about how fake things appear on the screen. Nothing can go wrong with a cast as energetic and enlightening as this one. There are some great lines, the same fun characters, an inventive and fun story, and some brilliantly staged action sequences.

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
PG-13
Peter Jackson has done it. He has created an all-encompassing epic saga of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books. The cast comes through once more. The musical score retains its beauty, elegance and power. I have no doubt, however, that the trilogy as a whole is the first great cinematic masterpiece of the twenty-first century.
