I've wanted to watch this movie for the longest time & I finally have - I must say it was amazing!!
Its a really touching, funny story with some beautiful performances. The kind of movie you're not likely to forget.
(Oh! & I keep saying "Buon giorno, Principessa! " - that line from this movie is stuck in my head lol).
I think this movie definitely lives up to its hype - its both beautiful & horrifying.
Young Ofelia creates an imaginary world in order to escape the brutal, fascist surroundings in which she lives with her step-father.
A dark fairy tale with brilliant fantasy scenes mixed with the seriousness of the overall story. A must-see!
Wonderfully kooky with a dark twist! The animation was a treat to watch ~ visual candy. A great story with fun characters that all ages will enjoy (I don't think it's too creepy for younger kids). This is not a Tim Burton film, as many people mistake it for - but fans of his will definitely appreciate Coraline. I hope Henry Selick churns out more fantastic movies like this one in future.
Very entertaining movie. Tom Cruise should play more 'bad guy' roles, I thought he did surprisingly well in this & Jamie Fox gave an equally great performance.
How sad is this movie?! - I thought the chemistry between Ryan Gosling & Rachel McAdams was very believable. The story has a classic romance feel to it and I got swept along with the characters.
Beautifully told & one I'd watch again.
One of the most evocative movies I've ever seen ~ nearly every scene in this movie has such power behind it and tells a very disturbing yet moving story.
Edward Norton was superb as the hate-fuelled racist who gets a serious wake-up call.
Interesting and sweet french movie - it tells the tale of an adorable little boy who thinks he is or should have been born a girl and shows how his family try to deal with the situation. The imagery in this is beautiful and there are some touching scenes too. Brilliant!
This is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a while. It has some truly intense scenes & a bit of gore for people who don't mind it!
The ending however is just bizarre and makes you question the entire story before it - but I found that a good thing lol.
Another 80's fave. Starring Tom Hanks (& Corey Feldman in a small role) its set in an american suburb where the residents become suspicious of their new neighbours - and maybe with reason! Watch it, its fun!!
This movie was a s great as I thought it would be. A very funny tale of the friendship of two young boys with some serious moments highlighting the effects of growing up during the troubles of 70's Northern Ireland. Superb performances from the kids here.
I thought this was truly poignant.
One of the best foreign movies I've seen, some scenes I thought were a little hard to watch - but you gain a feeling of aspiration/hopefulness as the story moves along.
I really enjoyed this movie - entertaining filming style, slick effects, good story that has a few twists and a conclusive ending!
This is what action movies should be - big on stunts that wow you and not overly complicated!
A great watch!
Absolutely riveting. Loved the quirky style in which the story is told/filmed - starts at the end & leads you back to the beginning. I felt like I'd miss something if I blinked!! & just when you think you know whats happening, it twists and screws with your mind lol.
For such a simple story this was completely riveting. I could watch this again purely due to Meryl Streep's performance, I thought her character alone was captivating - but perfect casting all round, I can't fault any of the actors in this. The movie itself is full of engaging dialogue which amount to quite powerful scenes, and the story has some unexpected moments but ultimately keeps you guessing as to what the truth actually is. Overall.. an excellent drama.
Brilliant gangster movie. The cast is amazing, I thought it was strange seeing De Niro take a back seat in role but all the performances - Liotta & Pesci especially - were great.
Engrossing drama with a young Kate Winslet. Shows the disturbing relationship between the two lead characters as young friends who develop an obsessive friendship which leads to murder.
Contains some great fantasy scenes too. I've seen this a few times now.. it's well worth a look!
Superb supernatural tale which is quite dark but great to watch. Loved the way the story moves back and forth - it has a very eyecatching concept and keeps you watching.
This movie retains the atmosphere of a classic ghost story - very creepy in parts and manages to build tension too.
I was drawn into the movie and found the realization of the story quite unexpectedly heartbreaking. Brilliantly done. (Purpously avoiding major spoilers here!!) If you like horror movies more pyschological than mindless blood & gore - this is for you.
Loosely based on Dylan Thomas and his life during WWII - his marriage to Caitlin (Sienna Miller) and the couples friendship/relationship with his first love Vera Phillips (Keira Knightley). Engaging performances from the four main stars combined with a beautiful backdrop made this film lovely to watch. Although this was just an account of a person's life - with no real 'ending' as such, I still really enjoyed the movie.
A sweet & beautiful coming-of-age love (of sorts) story with the contrast of a haunting vampire tale. Let the Right One in I found to be quite an entrancing movie. A good story that doesn't need to rely on excessive gore but will still chill you to the bone in one scene and then hit you with the 'innocence' of the child characters in the next. This is one of those movies that I saw end & thought 'I want to see more - what happens now?' - sequel please? nb. This movie is being remade (an english version), I don't see the point but it might be interesting to see what they make of it.
