Coraline (2009,  PG)
Coraline
Wonderfully kooky with a dark twist! The animation was a treat to watch ~ visual candy. A great story with fun characters that all ages will enjoy (I don't think it's too creepy for younger kids).
This is not a Tim Burton film, as many people mistake it for - but fans of his will definitely appreciate Coraline. I hope Henry Selick churns out more fantastic movies like this one in future.

High Tension (Switchblade Romance)
This is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a while. It has some truly intense scenes & a bit of gore for people who don't mind it!
The ending however is just bizarre and makes you question the entire story before it - but I found that a good thing lol.

Love this movie.. it took a different route to the cliched teen slasher movies with its kooky sci-fi story. Great cast too.
51
Memento (2000,  R)
Memento
Absolutely riveting.
Loved the quirky style in which the story is told/filmed - starts at the end & leads you back to the beginning.
I felt like I'd miss something if I blinked!! & just when you think you know whats happening, it twists and screws with your mind lol.

Total Recall
I never get bored of this old-school sci-fi, its one I can watch over & over.

Stephen King's It (1990,  Unrated)
Stephen King's It
Very Good freaky clown horror.
Made me fear clowns, so it did its job lol.
54
Doubt (2008,  PG-13)
Doubt
For such a simple story this was completely riveting.
I could watch this again purely due to Meryl Streep's performance, I thought her character alone was captivating - but perfect casting all round, I can't fault any of the actors in this. The movie itself is full of engaging dialogue which amount to quite powerful scenes, and the story has some unexpected moments but ultimately keeps you guessing as to what the truth actually is.
Overall.. an excellent drama.
55
Carlito's Way (1993,  R)
Carlito's Way
Brilliant Gangster Movie.
56

Lovely drama & I think this is another movie that doesn't get much credit.

Engrossing drama with a young Kate Winslet. Shows the disturbing relationship between the two lead characters as young friends who develop an obsessive friendship which leads to murder.
Contains some great fantasy scenes too. I've seen this a few times now.. it's well worth a look!
66
The Butterfly Effect (2004,  R)
The Butterfly Effect
Superb supernatural tale which is quite dark but great to watch. Loved the way the story moves back and forth - it has a very eyecatching concept and keeps you watching.
67
El Orfanato (The Orphanage) (2007,  R)
El Orfanato (The Orphanage)
This movie retains the atmosphere of a classic ghost story - very creepy in parts and manages to build tension too.
I was drawn into the movie and found the realization of the story quite unexpectedly heartbreaking. Brilliantly done. (Purpously avoiding major spoilers here!!)
If you like horror movies more pyschological than mindless blood & gore - this is for you.
68
The Edge of Love (2008,  R)
The Edge of Love
Loosely based on Dylan Thomas and his life during WWII - his marriage to Caitlin (Sienna Miller) and the couples friendship/relationship with his first love Vera Phillips (Keira Knightley). Engaging performances from the four main stars combined with a beautiful backdrop made this film lovely to watch.
Although this was just an account of a person's life - with no real 'ending' as such, I still really enjoyed the movie.
69
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in) (2008,  R)
Låt den Rätte Komma In (Let the Right One in)
A sweet & beautiful coming-of-age love (of sorts) story with the contrast of a haunting vampire tale.
Let the Right One in I found to be quite an entrancing movie. A good story that doesn't need to rely on excessive gore but will still chill you to the bone in one scene and then hit you with the 'innocence' of the child characters in the next.
This is one of those movies that I saw end & thought 'I want to see more - what happens now?' - sequel please?
nb. This movie is being remade (an english version), I don't see the point but it might be interesting to see what they make of it.
