Inglourious Basterds - R Just to get a negative remark out of the way > some long dialogue scenes that could have become tiresome... BUT! the rest of the movie makes up for it.
Excellent cast and story, not as gory as I imagined for a Tarantino movie either.
Purely humourous and well executed (no pun intended) with some great performances, good soundtrack and satisfying ending.

District 9 - R A dawdling intro that didn't grab me too much but sets the scene for an entertaining and well-made sci-fi flick. I liked the mockumentary style filming and the obvious familiarity of the story done with a more unique twist.
The effects are cool (great action sequences in the second half of the movie) and overall you come to care about the characters.
Very enjoyable.

The Hangover - R A comedy movie with a decent story! As much as the characters don't know whats coming next, neither does the viewer, and so there are many unexpected laughs. I liked the fact that the actors are well suited to their roles - by far the funniest to watch are the quirky one 'Alan' (Zach Galifianakis) and the brief hilarity that is 'Mr. Chow' (Ken Jeong).
Well worth the watch.

Moon - R A slow-paced sci-fi movie with a difference.
Sam Rockwell plays out the lead role in a very believable way, with Kevin Spacey as his man-voiced machine sidekick - and they both draw you into this film where nothing is quite what it seems.
This isn't a story I want to spoiler so I'll just say that this is a memorable, intelligent additon to it's genre ~ one that leaves you with something to think about.

9 - PG-13 Visually creative and a pleasure to watch in that sense, the tale is far from flawless though.
For a dark, cyberpunk-style animation that is aimed at adults/older kids (definitely not one for youngsters!) the plot probably could have had more detail put into to it.
Fun to watch but I felt the story had more potential, and I agree with those who say this looks more like a game than a film.

Role Models - R Much funnier than I expected, mainly due to the quick wit and Bobb'e J. Thompson as Ronnie. Full of silly humour, swearing & sex jokes... this has what you would expect from a modern comedy, but it has a heart too - and isn't too sickly-sweet in it's conclusion.
A good laugh ~ watch with your friends.

Terminator Salvation - PG-13 I can't even remember the intro to this film - it just didn't grab me from the start.
However, the sight of some large Transformers-esque evil robots and the energy kicked in! With the help of great effects, this follows on the story well and is an action-packed ride. Some elements of the movie are incredibly predictable though.
Entertaining... but it can't beat Terminator 2!!

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 - R I must say I enjoy John Travolta's OTT bad guy acting (Face/Off especially) and playing off against 'good guy' Denzel Washington makes this watchable in itself.
An entertaining thriller even if the plot isn't highly original.

Grace - R I've seen the word 'unsettling' used a few times to describe scenes in this movie - and I can't think of one better, especially for the strange motherhood-obsessed grandmother character.
The acting is good, so is the atmosphere created, and the story - although simple to follow - is really creepy and just plain odd at times.

Orphan - R A thriller that gradually picks up pace and, although it has a very familiar plot, the twist isn't so predictable and doesn't become apparent until just before it is revealed (certainly in my case anyway!).
This film does contain varied 'horror theme' clichés but was well acted and effectively creepy. This hugely reminded me of another pyscho-child movie, The Children, only Orphan is much more entertaining and the story a lot better.

Up - PG A very beautifully told story, the first section of this movie grabs you by the heart-strings and this is practically before the whole adventure begins.
The characters are cute and Pixar's animated movies never fail to be visually stunning.
Emotionally this is a bit of a rollercoaster ride, very sad in places but funny in others. A wonderful family film.

Public Enemies - R Johnny Depp - very well suited to the role of John Dillinger. The film itself I found to be much more slower than I anticipated.
Rather than an out-and-out action-packed gangster movie, this has much more drama & focus on Dillinger's relationship with girlfriend Billie Frechette, although this isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Overall - a stylish looking movie with great performances and an intense ending.

Star Trek - PG-13 I'm not a Star Trek fan (never watched any of it on tv or film before) but obviously I'm aware of characters and so on due to it's popularity in general - and because of that I thought this movie had an ideal casting. The story was good and easy to follow and the special effects were pretty great.
All round this was quite enjoyable.

Dead Snow (Død snø) - Unrated A Norwegian horror that contains an equal dose of fear & humour. I liked the Nazi zombie theme and the nice snowy backdrop which enables a good contrast for the gore that ensues.
I find that European films seem to do adrenaline pumping scenes better than most! This is a lively addition to the horror genre.

Land of the Lost - PG-13 Extremely silly as you would expect from a Will Ferrell film, but unexpectedly quite funny! I saw the trailer to this movie and wasn't too bothered about seeing it anytime soon (thought it looked stupid) but low and behold I have to admit that I actually found it entertaining.
A leave-your-brain-at-the-door comedy that isn't too bad.

Monsters vs. Aliens - PG A very likeable animated movie that pays homage to many popular sci-fi movies - Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Blob, The Fly etc. (which is obviously for the older audience watching, as I'd doubt any young kids can pick up on this having no idea of the older movies in reference!).
Cute characters and humour that all ages will appreciate, story was ok too.

State of Play - PG-13 I'm not a big fan of either of the main male actors here but it doesn't really matter - this film starts well and gets better as it goes along. The plot is good and keeps you interested, even if you guess whats going to happen - you'll stick with it to the end and see the story out , just as the characters do!
As far as political thrillers go, this is really good. Much better than I thought it would be.
