Amazing Grace
by BirdyI have to mention that this story happened before the American Civil War. The reason that is important is because "Amazing Grace" is a true story about the abolition of slave trade in England. It is a wonderful story but it gave me a sad recognition that the Civil War was not needed to end slavery. (It was all a lie made up by Lincoln to rally soldiers to fight for his cause. The Confederates were not for slavery, but for states' rights)
Anyway, when it comes to history, this movie is supposedly accurate. When it comes to believeability, the reactions of the characters as they go through the plot gives you a unique connection. When it comes to entertainment, I, at leasty, was wowed. I had really high expectations for this movie, having recently fallen in love with period dramas. I compared it to "Glory", my all time favortie, as I watched it; I was impressed by this film'srawness and beauty.
William Wilderforce was an incredible man. I would have liked it if there were more vvid images regarding slaves to give more impact, but of course, leaving it a PG attracts more audiences and there is no need to be grossed out! :P
In short, I absolutely loved it! It makes me sad that all it takes to end something like slavery is one brave, strong person and the bloodshed of our Civil War turned from honorable to nothing but shame.Hey, you should really see this!

Glory
by BirdyThis movie absolutely made my heart melt. Not only was it very entertaining but also informative. I really learned a lot while my heart swelled inside of me. It is not just a war movie, its a wonderful story of the growth of a man who "gave his life for a race". Colonel Robert Gould Shaw is now one my heroes.
I love how you see Shaw grow as a person. At first, he is unable to connect with his black soldiers. He pushes his regiment to its greatest because he knows the horrors of war and the importance of discipline. He also knows that the success of the regiment will change the way Americans view African-Americans. Near the end of the movie , Shaw finally gains respect for his soldiers, earning their respect in return.
It amazes me that such a great, moving film whose main characters are such big names as Denzel Washington, Morgan Feeman and Matthew Broderick can be so under-rated and unknown!
This movie is able to give you a connectiong with the characters that is very refreshing.
Even though the ending is terribly sad, I could watch this movie a hundred times!
The power of Glory will stay with me forever.Hey, you should really see this! It's a true story about the bravery of Colonel Shaw (who was only 23) and his 54th Massachusetts African American Regiment in the Civil War.
It really is good, I'd hate for you to miss out on it. I never knew anything about him before but now I love Colonel Shaw for his views and his courage, I think he was an amazing man!
Rated R for bloody violence. So, besides blood and war violence (which is in only 3 or 4 scenes) this movie is clean of other crude stuff...which I detest! I mean, it's not even as bloody as any of the recent war movies. XP
And its not only about the war, it has a wonderful story inbetween all that. Oh, it makes me want to cry just thinking about it! But its a happy sadness, a proud one. It makes me really appreciate the sacrifices made by our forefathers so we can live our lives in peace and freedom. It makes me wish that there were more brave men like Shaw today. :(posted 39 days ago -
