Brilliant stuff once more from the Coens. Hilarliously funny and yet quite dark and sad in places as well. The story of someone's life coming apart is nothing new, but it's done so well here. Stuhlbarg gives a fantastic performance, and the film is complimented by a wonderful visual style.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon
PG-13
Enjoyable enough as long as you go in knowing what to expect. It's a pretty faithful adaption of the book, which is both the film's biggest good point and flaw. You get the bulk of the film devoted to developing Bella's relationship with Jacob, and then a sudden and rushed ending. Most of the acting is terrible, Taylor Lautner is gratuitously shirtless, and both Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning are terribly under-used. The action moments, however, are very good, and the effects used on these and the werewolves are fantastic.
It's target audience will lap this up and think it's the best film ever made. It's not - but if you did like the books (despite their many flaws), you'll like the film too.

An absolutely beautiful film in every way, where dreamy visuals and score combine with superb performances from the cast. Mysterious, sensual but bleak, you'll carry this film with you a long time after the credits have rolled. My favourite film of all time.

A masterpiece of modern film-making (despite it being a fair few years since it's release). Very much a mind-fuck, it's hard to describe this film with any accuracy. Black humour, science fiction and emotion all collide here. Just take my word for it - you need to see this film.
