Cassandra's Dream
by AAfter Match Point, director Woody Allen started a new era, and it can be seen in this film. The plot is great, with some black and/or acid humor and the typical tragedy and irony. The film is well directed, and Farrell and McGregor give great performances, making the audience feel what they do and what they are going through. The irony element here is huge as I mentioned, as it is in Match Point, but in a different way of course. But I have to say that in my personal opinion, this film confirms Woody Allen's new path and definitely gets away with what he's looking for and wants to tell as a filmmaker. And regarding Farrell, this is by far his best film and performance in a long time, taking Allen's place as the neurotic, imbalanced individual, suffering from certain delusion and panic attacks, and insecurities and major doubts and conflicts as well. And he does it in a brilliant way. Irony is the word to describe Cassandra's Dream, a film worth watching.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
by AI have to go slow on this one. I did have expectations about this film, but after Babel, I didn't think nor expect that Brad Pitt could star in and deliver such an amazing performance; this actor is at his very finest moment; he has finally found that confidence that every actor needs in order to do what this man did: the work of a true artist. Casey Affleck? I'm speechless; his performance is as good as Mr. Pitt's, and his character is by far one of the most complicated, brilliant and fascinating in recent cinema's history, pretty much like Tom Ripley's, just to name an example. It would take hours of brilliant and deep analysis and discussion in order to really figure him out; it is not a black nor white character at all; it's very shallow to call him that. It is deep, complicated and full of different shades. And the best part is that Jesse James' is exactly the same way. Brilliant film.

The Return (Vozvrashcheniye)
by AA very artsy Russian Film. The pace is slow, but the beauty of it is that EVERY SINGLE shot is a piece of real Art. Director Andrei Zvyagintsev is a total Master. I love this movie. Obviously, the Cinematographer is a genious as well. Really, it's like seing an amazing Photograph or Painting in every shot. Perfection.
