The technical aspects are really impressive, quite exceptional indeed, but there are several ups and downs in the irregular, problematic narrative - and the film by itself is WAY too long, almost never-ending.

A truly special, magical, captivating love story with a beautiful soundtrack, this film is sweet, romantic, told in such a simple way, and it presents two adorable characters that never seem unreal.

The original theatrical version is surely great, a splendid homage to cinema and nostalgia, but check out the newly extended director's cut, a new and quite different experience that gives a lot more space to the love story creating a much richer and more complete narrative, so touching and beautiful that I can certainly call it my favourite film of all time.

I really cannot understand how overlooked and underrated this film is. The Last Samurai is nothing less than an extraordinary masterpiece in its own ways, a fascinating and powerful epic about honor, loyalty, redemption and love, marvellously photographed, greatly acted, with beautiful dialogues and impeccable in every other way possible.
