One of my favorite Christmas holiday movie! I look forward to watching this movie every year. I start laughing even in anticipation of the slapstick, one liners, and the hi jinks of Clark Griswold's character and his dysfunctional attempts to host the perfect Christmas holiday for his family.
This movie made me laugh and tugged at my heart. Meryl Streep's performance as Julia Child is excellent and a pleasure to watch, if not the highlight of the movie. Amy Adams performance is strong and I felt for her character as she struggled through the self-imposed quest to cook all 524 recipes in a year. I am quite surprised how well two books were used to influence the movie and how well it worked here. This is a movie that should be shared. My wife and I watched it together and enjoyed each others reaction. A movie I will be adding to my collection and looking forward to seeing again.
With such a strong cast, I was surprisingly unimpressed with this movie. There was but only a couple of times that I found much of anything with the movie funny and even then, I express nothing more than a snicker (such as when John Malkovich's character is served). I believe it was a lack of connection or interest in the characters. The only one that I came even close to cheering or hoping for was the Manager of Hardbodies. I've enjoyed many of the films with this cast and believe that both George Clooney and Brad Pitt have some true hidden comedic talent...I just didn't see it in this movie.
Highly recommend this movie. The animation and story line kept me interested throughout the movie. It definitely has the Tim Burton dark look and feel. Although promoted as a children movie, it may be to dark and scary for young children.
A Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel cover that comes to life!! A truly awesome film from beginning to end, it hit the mark in all areas, visuals, audio, directing, script. If there is any one flaw, it is the story, which is quite predictable. Even so, I felt it did not distract from the experience of being entertained. The film does border the line between being a CGI animated film and live action. The CGI animation is so prevalent and good, it could have easily went full CGI and still be a good movie. When live action and CGI are melded together, it is just awesome to watch. I highly recommend this movie. Parents should note the PG-13 rating. This is a mature film with mature themes and some scene's may be disturbing to younger children.
The depiction of Terra and it's peaceful inhabitants was excellent. I enjoyed watching them float through the land and interact with the native plants and animals. The animation is pretty good. I felt they (animators) may have lacked some of the details of the human characters, as they seemed a bit "under drawn" and plain, compared to the details found with the native terrans and the dilapidated ship the humans were living in. The story line was good and kept my interest, even though it was very predictable. Overall, not a bad animated feature, however the adult oriented theme may not be appropriate younger audiences.
I wasn't really interested in seeing the movie. I was actually quite surprised how good the movie was. At several points in the movie, it did seem to drag on and I found myself easily distracted, but overall I was into it. The movie did not seem to stay consistent either. At times it appeared to switch between being a dramatic movie about a troubled man, to a documentary (as if you were there with him on his trek). I found the narration was good, but wondered why it wasn't narration from Christopher's own journal.
Wasn't quite sure what to expect from this film, which is often a good thing because I find that I'm a bit more open minded. A story about two sisters who are no where near to getting their lives together. In an odd twist of fate, they start their own Crime Scene Cleanup business. Both Amy Adams and Emily Blunt were good in their roles, although I thought Emily characterization was stronger (I kept expecting Amy Adams to break out in song and her fairy Godmother saving her). A good lighthearted film, with a couple of "laugh out loud" and "oh, I can't believe that just happened" moments. This one should not be passed up at the video store.
I typically watch these with my wife, but our schedule wouldn't allow it. So I thought I would pass on it, until she insisted that I watch it. She made particular reference to the dinner scene, which she thought was very funny. I'm glad I listened, as this is a surprising little film, and the dinner scene, it was priceless!! It is predictable is a number of spots, but not so that it is boring. The chemistry between the two main actors was very good and worked well for the screen and this movie.
I really enjoyed this movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat and guessing just how they were going to end it. John Travolta portrayal of Ryder was excellent. He almost always seems to out do himself when he plays the bad guy (notable exception being Battlefield Earth). It would have been interesting to know what happened to all of the money (re: the account?).
Recommend...I was quite impressed with the movie, as it delivered more than I was expecting or what it's marketing provided. The casting and acting was very well done, especially considering many, if not all of them are virtual unknowns. The action and pace of the movie was very good. There are some plot holes and points left open. Some of the FX scenes, with the "pawns" moving are a bit to blurry. I will be adding this to my collecting and look forward to watching it on Blu-Ray.
Recommend...I was pleasantly surprised with movie. At the end, I found that it was much more entertaining than I expected it would be. I suspect it was all the bad reviews about Brendan Frazier's performance. It wasn't his best, but it was not bad either (I've seen worse performances). I enjoyed the overall story and characters in the movie. It's a good movie for a family movie night, especially if the children are pre- to early teens.
