Surrogates
PG-13
I was quite excited for this film based on previews, but Surrogates coudln't quite live up.
First, the good: this is one of the great sci-fi worlds/ settings - humanity has replaced themselves with perfect human replicas they control from themselves. I love the replicas - they are perfect to the point that they can't be human. Put a surrogate and a human together and you can immediately pick out the surrogate due to its lack of flaws. Great work by the effects group.
Alas, while surrogates has a great story, it doesn't have a great script. The dialogue is pedestrian, chases are thrown in for the sake of having them, and when the true plot started coming into effect, I was unenthused. And what was with the "push the red button" scene? I'm sure they wanted me to care, but I didn't.
Dead Snow (Død snø)
Unrated
[29th Atlantic Film Festival]
A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of teenagers, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies.
Wow, I haven't laughed this hard at a film in ages. Destined to be a cult classic in the vein of Army of Darkness - Dead Snow is every bit as good as that film. This was the late night show at the Oxford in Halifax and the entire theatre was laughing and cheering for the entire 90 minutes. Highly recommended.

Absolutely unforgettable. Chronicles the life of a soulless office worker who suddenly discovers he only has six months left to live; at which point he decides to finally start living. I have to say this resonated a lot with me personally, as I personally had a near-death experience that changed the way I look at life. I think this movie might have the potential to do that on a smaller scale for people who view it. The single most moving film I've ever watched.
