Elizabeth: The Golden Age Elizabeth: The Golden Age PG-13 2.5 Stars
I found this film to be dramatic, self indulgent and not historically accurate. Whenever has that got in the road of making a good film. Well in this case i believe it did. Still wonderful performance again by Cate but would have preferred not to see the alleged fragile side of her reign thru the holy war with the Spanish. Rush, Owen & Cornish play there parts well but i felt the story was a little ambigious to follow at times. Sure i understand that they wanted to show a different light to Elizabeth but i do think they had taken to far measures with her involvement with Raleigh. So if you like drama and not war, than you will enjoy this more than the first. I however found the first to be a film that would have stood on its own and this film tends to tarnish it ever so slightly.
Elizabeth Elizabeth R 4.5 Stars
Brillant performance by Cate. She should have won Best Actress for this role. Most definitely a film that should have stood alone as I found the 2nd film to be dramatic and self indulgent.
The Promotion The Promotion R 3.0 Stars
What sad little pathetic lives we all tend to lead. I was expecting this to be a little funnier but actually sort of dealt more with the serious side of what we as humans do to get ahead in life. In this case two guys both under the pump for different reasons to provide for their family and both gunning for a promotion as Manager of a Shopping Centre. So was actually refreshing to see both Reilly & Scott trying to keep a lid on there comedic talents and use the environment that surrounds them as the real laughter ( some absurd, some funny and some a little depressing really).

So i guess if you like something a little offbeat, some genuine laughs and a weird kind of feeling about the struggle some people have to live a good life and what choices you make in the process.

I really enjoyed this film, was expecting another major letdown but to my surprise it was light hearted good fun. Will Smith is always good no matter the material.

All the action I was expecting, and very exciting. A little bit like the Bourne films, but without Matt Damon''s annoying face. More groun up for Shia Labeouf and with the hotness that is Michelle Monaghan.

But smaller parts from Rosario Dawson and Anthony Mackie, who is perhaps wasted here, but still nice to see, and is impressing me with his versatility.

Well cast and well done, doesn't disapoint, even if I wasn;t exactly paying such close attention during the whole movie ;)~

    My review:

When a green ogre called Shrek discovers his swamp has been 'swamped' with all sorts of fairytale creatures by the scheming Lord Farquaad, Shrek sets out, with a very loud donkey by his side, to 'persuade' Farquaad to give his swamp back. Instead, a deal is made. Farquaad, who wants to become the King, sends Shrek to rescue Princess Fiona, who is waiting for her one true love. But once they head back with Fiona, it starts to become apparent that not only does Shrek like Fiona, but Fiona is keeping something secret. This film truly is a feel good film because of its beautiful story and hilarious characters. This film made me feel really good because I love the Shrek character because he is quite a mean ogre on the outside but when you get to know Shrek, he is like a really good friend. His character is really powerful. It has a story that is quite odd but it combines together really well as it goes on and it turns into a family classic. This film had that typical family style that some animated films dont have. For example, it has quite crude humour which makes young kids understand what they mean. Shrek truly has loving characters that arent just for kids but are for adults too. They are all emotional characters aswell as absolutely hilarious ones. I love the scene where Shrek and Donkey confront Lord Farquaad about the swamp. When there was a wrestling tournament, Shrek and Donkey sort of take the mick out of professional wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam and Chris Masters but obviously in an absolutely hilarious way though of course. This film was quite thrilling as well because of when Shrek and Donkey were in the castle where they had to go and rescue Fiona from the dragon. It was tense how they got in and how they made their escape. In that scene, I thought the scene involving Donkey and the dragon was tense because the dragon is a lot bigger than Donkey. I had a feeling that the dragon was taking Donkey to eat him but it doesnt. I think the dragon falls for Donkey. It can be such an inspiration to thousands of people in this world and I am certainly one of those people. Mike Myers delivers an absolutely awesome voice acting performance as Shrek. Mikes voice is simply perfect for Shrek because the type of character that Shrek is fits perfectly with Mike Myers Scottish accent. The voice that Mike uses in Shrek is the exact same voice as Fat B*****d in the Austin Powers trilogy. His voice as Shrek is both hilarious and heartwarming too which makes Shrek one of the most friendly and lovely characters that has ever been put to the screen. Eddie Murphys voice as Donkey is absolutely awesome too. Murphy has that sort of croaking and typical American accent which unusually fits absolutely perfectly for Donkey. His acting was superb. Cameron Diaz was good as Princess Fiona. I wish that there was a better actress for the voice of Fiona. She was still good though. I liked John Lithgow too as Lord Farquaad even though there werent that many scenes involving Farquaad. All four speak very differently. Not because of different actors but because they all try different sorts of accents. When comparing live action films where a character doesnt talk is quite similar to an animated film but they do because they are both other different styles of acting that people can expect awesome performances from. The directional debut of Andrew Adamson was absolutely outstanding. He directed this film really well. He has done four really good films as director so far. Others like Shrek 2, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion And The Wardrobe and The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The written screenplay in Shrek was absolutely outstanding. It was really clever and all of the lines in the certain scenes were absolutely perfect indeed. This film along with Toy Story and Spirited Away set a whole new level of animation because they are very different and unusual and sometimes teaches us all about things in life. The chemistry between Shrek and Donkey is just absolutely hilarious. When they first meet each other, Shrek doesnt want anything to do with Donkey but Donkey just wants a friend. Shrek finds Donkey extremely annoying (and so do the audience but in a funny way obviously). It turns from a bad relationship up until they both meet Fiona. They both become best friends. Shrek and Fionas relationship is obviously a forbidden love relationship but when a shocking secret is revealed that all changes. Fiona despises Shrek at the start but when she starts to learn about people judging Shrek before knowing him because he is ugly she starts to become really good friends and starts to become a deep and personal relationship. I really liked Shrek and Lord Farquaads relationship because they never actually confront face-to-face. It is really funny because Shrek is over 6 foot tall and Farquaad is only like 4 foot at least. We dont see them stand in front or next to each other at all but that would be even funnier. The twists were when Shreks house in the forest was sort of demolished by fairy tale creatures who were sent by Lord Farquaad. Shreks quest with Donkey to find Farquaad was the main twist that leads no only leads Shrek to getting his swamp bac but also to meet and fall in love with Princess Fiona too. There was some violent scenes involving Shrek in the wrestling ring and when they are at the castle. It is sort of typical of animation to have that sort of violence. This had not so much bad language but it was crude language which was brilliant! The sound was superb in this film. There are some animated films that have awesome sound but there are some that dont. The ones that mostly do have awesome sound are PIXAR and DreamWorks. I really liked the cinematography which is absolutely awesome for an animated film. This film made history by becoming the first winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Picture by beating Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius and Monsters, Inc.. It was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay but lost to A Beautiful Mind. Shrek was nominated for Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) but lost to Moulin Rouge!. This film is my favourite Andrew Adamson film. For me, he has not done one bad film yet. This one is the best of the trilogy. The second one is awesome too but the third one is crap. I was extremely disappointed in Shrek The Third because of its lame story. This film didnt disappoint me at all. This film has become one of my favourite animated films of all time. It is one of the most pleasureable, inspiring and most delightful family films of all time. Shrek is a masterpiece of animation and deserves its rightful place there.
Hey, you should really see this!

Shrek is a masterpiece of animation that everyone looks in different ways. It is one of my favourite animated films of all time. In fact it is my 5th favourite animated film of all time.

    1. Ratatouille
    2. Pinocchio
    3. WALL-E
    4. Spirited Away
    5. Shrek

It is a masterpiece!!! It is better than second one (even though second one is awesome). But it is far far better than third one. Third one was shit.

Love Shrek so much. It is such an inspiration to me.

    Genre: Drama

    Running time: 94 minutes

    My review:

When his father is made commandant of a concentration camp, eight year-old Bruno finds himself listless and alone. Then, after an exploration, he meets a strange boy who seems to be wearing pyjamas, sat behind a wire fence. A meeting that will have terrible repercussions. This film is one of the most emotional and heartbreaking films that I have ever seen before. This film is really beautiful at the same time because it teaches us that people who are supposed to be enemies can be friends at the same time like normal people can. This film showed us the unusual way of the holocaust because two of the four I have seen are true stories. I mostly thought this was quite unusual compared to the other Holocaust films because it only involves two young kids rather than every single Jew (Schindlers List) and only one person (The Pianist). This film can be such an inspiration to a lot of people around the world. At least, it will be when the film is released around the entire world. I thought Asa Butterfields performance as Bruno was really good because he is a really nice looking young man who makes the character such a beautiful one and a character that some people would fall in love with. I thought Asas performance was very powerful and very emotional too not only because of his friendship with young Jew Shmuel but also when he is around his mother, father and sister too. I felt sorry for Bruno because he needs a friend in which he finds but they are supposed to be enemies. He worries about what his family would say if they find out. Also, he is a curious young boy and wants to know why there are people in pyjamas, why they are in cages and why there are soldiers around the camp. Also, Bruno has no idea that the camp is a concentration camp where Jews get gassed and burned. I liked David Thewlis as the strict commander of a Nazi concentration camp and father of Bruno and Gretel. David makes him a really nasty and aggressive man but I dont think he is really a fearful character comparing to Amon Goth in Schindlers List. I wasn?t really keen on Vera Farmiga as the mother of Bruno and Gretel because I dont think that she has that mother material in a film to be perfectly honest. Dont get me wrong, she is a really nice looking woman but I dont think she is a very good actress. I didnt really like her in The Departed either. I really liked Jack Scanlon as Shmuel because he really looked like an innocent young victim who is sort of confused with what is going on in the camp. The direction was really good and was really well produced by the BBC. It was really well written too for such a powerful film from a really powerful novel. Obviously all of the Holocaust films are different but this one is the most different because it is as I said about kids instead of millions or one Jew. The chemistry between Bruno and Shmuel is a very emotional friendship but then it becomes a personal relationship too. It is like they are forbidden friends that arent meant to be because Bruno is German and Shmuel is Jew. I thought that the relationship between Bruno and his father was like a hidden relationship because Bruno wanted to ask his father about what his job really is and why there are people in cages but he never asked his father or any of his family about it at all. His relationship between Bruno and his sister Gretel is like an obvious connection but have a huge clash of personality because Gretel thinks that Jews are scum and evil just like her father thinks and what Adolf Hitler thought aswell (even though they arent). There was an effective twist that occurs at the end and that can make you cry. It is a twist that is really unexpected and something that is quite silly really. This film wasnt bad languaged, violent nor sexual at all. The reason why this film was 12A/PG-13 was because of the Holocaust material and the general idea of what happens. Also, the story aswell is another reason. This film had excellent costumes mostly. The costumes were really good which were typical Nazi. The costumes on Bruno, Gretel and their mother was really good too. I thought that the pyjama costumes were really good too on Shmuel and on the other Jews in the concentration camp. I really liked the scenery of the film. It is both horrid and beautiful too. I think that the only Academy Award that this film could be nominated for would be Best Costume Design. I think that this film is so underrated and I think that this film should earn a lot of credit for its clever style towards the big screen. The few things that disappointed me about this film was that I thought it was quite slow to start with. I also wished that Brunos father could have been more involved with the deaths of the Jews in the film like other Nazi officers have been like in previous Holocaust/WWII films. Apart from that I think The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas is definitely a film of 2008 that people should consider naming one of the best of the year.

"When two people love each other, they come together - WHAM - like two taxis on Broadway."

    Directed by: Alfred Hitchcock
Starring: James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, Raymond Burr, James Stuart

    Genre: Crime/Drama/Mystery/Thriller

    Running time: 112 minutes

    Photobucket

    My review:

A wheelchair bound photographer thinks he witnesses a murder from his apartment window. Gradually he fleshes out the crime, drawing others into his intrigue until the film culminates in a perfect hero / villain showdown. Rear Window is in my opinion one of the best thrillers ever made. Every single scene of this film made me feel really tense and made my heart pound so fast, it hurt. It took my breath away and couldnt let me breath very much because it was so tense. One of the things that I loved about Rear Window was that the mystery and suspense wasnt really between the characters but was mostly about what the characters were doing. The tensest moment was when Lisa sneaked over to Lars Thorwolds flat to investigate what the truth is but when he starts to come back, it becomes even tenser which made my heart race really fast. James Stewart delivers an awesome performance as photographer L.B. Jeffries. His performance is one of those underrated performances I find. I personally think that Stewart doesnt earn enough credit for his roles in the Hitchcock films. I think that this is his best film with Hitchcock as director. I really liked Vertigo too. Grace Kelly was absolutely awesome too as Jeffries lover Lisa Carol Fremont. Grace Kelly is almost perfect for Lisa because she is like a real action packed young woman with such a beautiful and sexy style that not many actresses have. She makes Lisa a completely irrestistable woman who anyone can fall for. The direction was absolutely outstanding from Alfred Hitchcock. I think Hitchcock directs every single film that he has done almost to complete perfection which probably has made him the greatest director of all time. This is one of those Hitchcock films that shows Hitchcock can never be rid of his classic masterpieces. The written screenplay was really clever not because obviously it is a complex mystery but because it is a short story and of how they adapted into an ordinary feature film. I think that this film changed everything about what thrillers are really like. I personally think that this started to make Hitchcock the master of thrillers but after seeing Psycho (which is Hitchcocks best) and the release of Psycho completely determined Hitchcock as the Master Of Suspense. The chemistry between Jeffries and Lisa is really good because I could tell that they were in love and I could tell that they both felt that they had to work together to try and investigate what happened opposite the other side of the flats. There wasnt really any chemistry between Jeffries and Lars because they only met properly around the end of the film. The main twist was when Jeffries witnesses Lars returning home without his wife and that is the moment when Jeffries starts to become suspicious and tries to investigate the mystery. This film was not violent at all really but had a few violent references. There wasnt really any bad language involved but there was quite a few moments that were quite crude with the language. There werent any sex references but there were quite a few making out scenes between Jeffries and Lisa. As I already said, this film had simply outstanding writing with the clever screenplay. I also said about the awesome direction of the great and late Alfred Hitchcock. The cinematography was simply superb with amazing photography and the clever sound sequences used too. It had awesome sound and scenery. It made it like it was really happening. This film earned four Academy Award nominations. It earned Best Director for Alfred Hitchcock (lost to Elia Kazan in On The Waterfront), Best Writing Screenplay (lost to The Country Girl), Best Cinematography (lost to Three Coins In The Fountain) and Best Sound Recording (lost to The Glenn Miller Story). I think that this film should have been a close nomination for Best Actor for James Stewart and a close one for Best Supporting Actress for Grace Kelly too. This is my second favourite James Stewart film after It?s a Wonderful Life and it is my second favourite Alfred Hitchcock film after the obvious one Psycho. Grace Kelly hasnt been in many films really so I have to call Rear Window her best film then. The thing that really annoys me that involves me with Rear Window is that they made a remake of such a great masterpiece and it turned out to be a complete disaster just like the Psycho remake did. I really hope that there wont be any more Hitchcock remakes like Vertigo, Shadow Of A Doubt, Rebecca nor North By Northwest. Rear Window is a complete masterpiece that will always be remembered as one of the best of Hitchcock and also one of the greatest suspensful thrillers ever made.
Hey, you should really see this!

This is a new review of one of the greatest thrillers of all time that is Rear Window. One of Jimmy Stewarts best films. It is Hitchcocks second best after Psycho.

    Masterpiece!!!!!!!!

    PLOT

Arisan! focuses on a handful of friends who live in Jakarta, Indonesia. The main character is Sakti, a young gay man who hides his sexual orientation from his family. Meimei, his closest friend, learns in quick succession that she is unable to have a child and that her marriage has fallen apart. Soon, Sakti becomes involved in a new relationship, and must contend with the societal realities of being out of the closet.

    REVIEW

Arisan! is a bold story about the hypocrites and how they conquered the metropolitan.Arisan! is basically about the lives of several upperclass, thirty something Jakartans, whose truth hide within the masks.

Arisan! reveals a splendor yet hypocritical life of the cosmopolitans. Also set the film as the heavy satire of hedonism and the rich.Storywise,Arisan! tackle the taboo, and flip the conflict into this amusing 2 hours movie that surprisingly stunned Washington viewers, and not getting enough of the controvesial themes,Nia Dinata cut this movie with dazzling camera work, and hit the notch with unique score. The movie is a full package of entertainment, comedy, and satire, bringing sex, money, and friendship to the fullest.

Nia Dinata,as the director successfully translated the word "Arisan" as a provoking metaphor of the life of the hypocrites, the same way they gathered together and pretend that everything is perfect,in a stop called Arisan.

At the end,Arisan is a magnificent Indonesian movie without being pretentious, completely honest, and fight the stereotypes. The movie also successful to make a mark left somewhere in people's mind, simply mirroring the life of the society itself. And with Nia Dinata clever cut and marvelous directing, also it's moisture cinematography and witty script,Arisan is irresistably powerful and glorious Indonesia movie.

Arisan! is my official pick for the best Indonesian movie ever,as we may call it
    "THE INDONESIAN MASTERPIECE"
,with proud and dignity, the same reason with why I reserved a place for this movie in my top movies.

    Schindler's List Schindler's List
    5.0 Stars by Inez
Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.

    DIRECTED BY: Steven Spielberg
STARRING: Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley, Caroline Goodall, Embeth Davidtz

    Synopsis

Based on a true story, Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List stars Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, a German businessman in Poland who sees an opportunity to make money from the Nazis' rise to power. He starts a company to make cookware and utensils, using flattery and bribes to win military contracts, and brings in accountant and financier Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley) to help run the factory. By staffing his plant with Jews who've been herded into Krakow's ghetto by Nazi troops, Schindler has a dependable unpaid labor force. For Stern, a job in a war-related plant could mean survival for himself and the other Jews working for Schindler. However, in 1942, all of Krakow's Jews are assigned to the Plaszow Forced Labor Camp, overseen by Commandant Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes), an embittered alcoholic who occasionally shoots prisoners from his balcony. Schindler arranges to continue using Polish Jews in his plant, but, as he sees what is happening to his employees, he begins to develop a conscience. He realizes that his factory (now refitted to manufacture ammunition) is the only thing preventing his staff from being shipped to the death camps. Soon Schindler demands more workers and starts bribing Nazi leaders to keep 1,100 Jews on his employee lists and out of the camps.

    My Review

I usually don't write a long review for a movie that I trully respect. I did it to The Godfather, and I did it because first, I don't feel like I have many words to say, and especially because, I feel like I have zero right to judge it. And that is what I'm doing here.

I feel like a moron that I've just finished watching it, I mean after all these times I walked around in the world and hey, 'I haven't seen Schindler's List.' What a stupidity. I almost dropped my tears watching it. I can't describe how POWERFUL this movie is. The 3 main casts are PERFECT. Flawless acts by Neeson, Kingsley, and Ralph Fiennes. The script, the score, the direction by Steven Spielberg (a standing ovation for the guy), all, exquisite.

At the moment after I finished watching it, I sat on my couch doing nothing and told myself that I just watched a movie, not a World War II. It is hard to believe that there is someone in this world is able to make something so real. This is more than just a 195 minutes time of your life that you spent watching movies. And further, this is something that will make you realize about the passing of thousands, millions of lives, and what can we do to make the world a better place to live, that we all capable of it.

Yes, I agree with my dear friend Nemka Jay, Schindler's List is A MASTERPIECE YOU HAVE TO WITNESS, AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR LIFE.

This list... is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.

    -Ben Kingsley as Itzhak Stern-

One of the best movies of all time.

    Have a nice day,
    Inez.

Body of Lies Body of Lies
    3.0 Stars by Mark
Solid spy film about a CIA operative that goes to Jordan to track down a terrorist. After a slow start, the film ultimately becomes a competent and well acted thriller with something interesting to say about how people are manipulated in the so-called War on Terror. English actor Mark Strong, who plays the head of Jordan's covert operations, is an actor worth watching.
A passable Friday night flick with good performances.

This is quite a good horror film that does borrow a lot from other films like Bloody Mary, Cabin Fever and a few others. It's a little slow to start and it won't please gore fans, but it was much better than I expected it to be.

More of a thriller but worth checking out when it's on TV.

"It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something."

    THE MOVIE OUTLINE

"Several stories interweave during two days in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter-related characters, a police detective with a drugged out mother and a thieving younger brother, two car thieves who are constantly theorizing on society and race, the white district attorney and his irritated and pampered wife, a racist white veteran cop (caring for a sick father at home) who disgusts his more idealistic younger partner, a successful Hollywood director and his wife who must deal with the racist cop, a Persian-immigrant father who buys a gun to protect his shop, a Hispanic locksmith and his young daughter who is afraid of bullets, and more. MY APPRAISAL

The title Best Picture of the year 2005 defines it all. Crash strongly portrays the complexities of racial conflict in United States in a provocative and persistent look.

Noone ever UNMASKED the racial and class division in U.S. society as POWERFUL, INTELLIGENT, and any better than Crash does.

MOST POWERFUL MOTION PICTURE OF THE YEAR.

*But don't get me wrong. Crash and Brokeback Mountain are equally terrific, but Crash winning over Brokeback had a lot more to do with those homophobes. By other words, like one of my fellow friend said, Brokeback was obviously robbed.

"Look around! You couldn't find a whiter, safer or better lit part of this city. But this white woman sees two black guys, who look like UCLA students, strolling down the sidewalk and her reaction is blind fear. I mean, look at us! Are we dressed like gang-bangers? Huh? No. Do we look threatening? No. Fact, if anybody should be scared around here, it's us: We're the only two black faces surrounded by a sea of over-caffeinated white people, patrolled by the triggerhappy LAPD. So you tell me, why aren't we scared?"
