Underground (1995,  Unrated)
Underground
This is my favorite movie of all time (so far). It mesmerized me with its fantastic storytelling and excellent music. Wildly funny, piercing, infuriating, and absurd at the same time. Go see it if you already haven't. If you're my friend and I'm in town, I'll lend you a copy.

Baraka (1993,  Unrated)
Baraka
It's the story of humanity, in pictures. It's absolutely breath-taking (that sounded trite didn't it). But you should really take the time out to seal your windows up, be in a really quiet place, say a little prayer or meditate, and watch this on a high-quality television screen. Listen to what the images and sequences are telling you. It will change your life.
3
Cidade de Deus, (City of God) (2003,  R)
4
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968,  G)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Best Kubrick. Sit it out, watch it in a sensory deprivation chamber. I was absolutely speechless.
5
The Man Who Wasn't There (2001,  R)
