by KhrisYeah!! I love gambling. I love cards.
I love knowing how to rort the system. XD!!
(hey whats ive been learning for the last six years...)
Anyways, whats not to like about this movie? Smart, edgy, cool and the action is in Vegas. That automatically gives it 3 stars. XD!!
What gives it the extra star?? Well, a good cast with some admirable names like Spacey and Fishburne. A good story with a nice twist in the works.
Well... unless you like movies like the Ocean's series, you wont like this. Those with a high morale who avoid the great, addictive and absolutely fun VICE of gambling would love it.
Honestly, its not that hard to count cards. The system in the movie is tough because its a freelance system, which is supposed to reduce the risks of getting caught. But hey, go online and play some blackjack, learn how to count and see for yourself, it really does work!
(and who says movies don't teach us anything???? ;-))I love to gamble with cards. You all should do so, it heaps fun!

Vantage Point
by KhrisA unique movie, though the rewinds and the different views can get annoying when you have to revisit the events after the third time...
But then again, its how the movie works. Call it fate, and the fate of everyone involved as they come together and how you unravel the clues hidden in the 5 points of view to piece together whats going on... but it really doesnt begin to be conclusive until you get to the 4th Vantage Point.
Anyways, what I liked about this movie:
1. Scenery. Spain rocks. I wanna go someday... looks great even though I just saw a small part of the city, the sky is great and love the atmosphere, Gotta love Spain in the movies.
2. The stars. Yep, it was a great cast with some of my personal favourites, the top pick obviously Dennis Quaid, one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood. He's been in the game for years, and hasn't really gotten the success he deserves. He won't get it in this movie, but I think its about time the big shots started giving him more kudos. If you really wanna see him at his best, watch SAVIOUR.
3. The car chase. Yep, the set piece for this flick was the cool car chase. Nothing outrageous or over the top, but a nice, near realistic car chase, similar to the ones in the Bourne series or perhaps Ronin... the car chase is great one.
Anyways, for something different in movie style, but a good thrill ride, not great, but good, this is okay. This movie has a great car chase. That means its worth watching right??

Drillbit Taylor
by KhrisYeah, its good to see Owen Wilson back on the screen after his problems. And though this isnt his best movie, I like his charm and style which comes through for him.
This is an odd movie... he plays an Army deserter/bum hired to protect three kids from the "very" psychotic bully (emphasis on psychotic!! Man, its America!) and of course as the fat kid said, "Your name is Drillbit cause you screw people!"
XD!
Anyways, its a good one off laugh, nothing special really, but funny enough, though it does put bullying bakc in perspective, mentioning the many Youtube videos on school fights, samurai swords etc etc....
kinda inflated and ridiculous at times, but meh, watch it once and laugh your head off.
Loved the music soundtrack in it, and the fat kid reminds me of a young Jonah Hill (fat guy from Superbad) XD!!Watch this or not... I don't really care.

The Company
by Kropotkin Mouzer Robert Littell's The Company is a massive novel that follows the history of the CIA from post WWII to the end of the cold war - 1999. As long as three episodes, the novel is rich and full of characterization. So it's obvious that any such book would be hard to bring to the screen, large or small.
The TNT TV version, at around 4.5 hours, tried hard, but didn't do justice to the book. It sometimes seems like an outline of the book, and so much is left out, that the action moves too quickly, changing locations and characters, making it hard to follow. This is more so in the first two episodes; the last episode focuses on a more limited situation, the attempt to find a CIA mole and left Iraq in the 1980s out (it was one of the best parts - but I don't regret it)
Sadly, Chris O'Donnell plays the main character - he does a great job as the 'Hail, fellow, well met!' overly naive Yalie, but just does not seem to ever grow or learn as he gets older.
Keaton's growth as an actor over almost 30 years is remarkable. O'Donnell has stuck to what he does. Nothing wrong with that, but it means he is miscast.
Suffering from overbearing music that is way too loud in the early parts (which makes you wonder why the music was toned down so much in the last third), and characters who are supposed to age about thirty years, but look only a few years older, The Company is, nevertheless, good TV. It will keep your attention, and the intrigue is interesting, but be prepared to give it a chance; it's hard to follow at the beginning. The acting is good, the sets and locations interesting, and the plot - good vs evil - works well, especially since we already know who "won" the cold war.
But if you like this mini-series, do read the book - it is probably the best spy novel I've ever read - even Tom Clancy said it was a masterpiece. No film could do the book any justice, but I can't help but think that a couple more hours could have saved this from its weaknesses.I'd suggest you to read the book first, by Robert Littell =]

Vantage Point
by SlickVantage Point...possibly borderline incredible.
The actors were great. The plot was great. The twist was great. And the 7 points of view gave it something we have already seen before in a movie, and gave it a new life to look at. The 7 different views kept it interesting. I was watching the same thing over and over again, but at the same time wasn't bored at all.
If you're the kind of person that gets impatient with movies to get going, than this movie might not be for you. But if you are willing for a ride, than this my friend will rock your boat.
Hey, I don't normally do recommendations, but this movie was pretty good.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)
by Kropotkin Mouzer I went in with fairly low expectations -as I have never been a fan of the Western genre- but at the same time I still expected a reasonable film due to Russel Crowe and Christian Bale. I have also heard of the director, James Mangold, having a couple of great movies too ;)
Having said all of that, I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised. 3:10 To Yuma basically tells the story of Dan Evans (Bale), a struggling disabled rancher. In exchange for payment which will allow him to save his farm, he volunteers to escort the known infamous outlaw, Ben Wade (Crowe) onto the 1510hours (3:10) train to Yuma, for hanging. The task turns out to be an extremely dangerous mission for the escort.
The premise is simple, the developing bond and friendship between Evans and Wade - and that was more than enough, in my opinion. I loved the ending of this film, as unrealistic as it was. It made the whole journey worthwhile - there is no clear theme of redemption, guilt, atonement, friendship or loyalty in the picture; all those themes are there, but this is not the film that they are explored in.
So, don't discount this film simply because it is a Western. I'll surely watch another couple of movies by James Mangold, the acting is alsp worth a look.
Film Threat | KJ Doughton
Mangold has time to build sensational, studied characterizations, brilliant pacing (courtesy Mike McCuster, who also edited the director's previous effort, the Johnny Cash biopic "Walk the Line"), and blistering action. An extremely well-acted and well-directed remake of a 1957 oater.

Equilibrium
by Kropotkin Mouzer 1984 meets the Matrix - but I wouldn't compare this movie to any of the previously mentioned, it has it's own taste :)
War has been eliminated by suppressing emotions; books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Clerics are top ranking government agents responsible for eliminating those who resist the rules of the Father (Big Brother?).
What was very unique about the film was the creation of their own martial art known as Gun-Kata. I'd totally sign-up for classes if it was real :P
Kurt Wimmer does a great job in creating an interesting story set in the future - the action scenes are simply stunning and the directing is dead on perfect.
Chicago Sun-Times | Roger Ebert
Would be a mindless action picture, except that it has a mind. It doesn't do a lot of deep thinking, but unlike many futuristic combos of sf and f/x, it does make a statement:
PS: Would mankind be better off without emotion? Would we be a better society without drama or love? I think we can keep love but please take away drama because now a days, drama is ridiculous.More gun pornography, this time its Martial-Arts and Guns :D
