Re-Animator - R I didn't know how much I would like this movie until I watched it. It had all the basic horror parts which we all come to love. Plus it had pretty decent acting. Well maybe not Barbara Crampton. She was in it for the basic nudity. But you really come to love Jeffrey Combs in his whole as Herbert. He was so creepy, it even came off as funny at parts. I will also say that Bruce Abbott did a decent job as well. The movie also had good old costumes and make up. No CG at all. The make up for the gore was just excellent in this film. Combs character created this glowing liquid that can bring back the dead. The liquid is awful close to the stuff they use in the Puppet Master series of films. But I will have to say it worked more for this film. This movie had some jumpy scenes, gore and even a little comedy to stir with. The story was a little off and not that strong, but at least it had enough entertainment to keep you watching. October 26, 2009

Blood: The Last Vampire - R This movie had some great fight scenes. Too bad there was only a couple. Other than that, this movie didn't have anything really going for it. They had some pretty and creepy scenery with added CG. But then they made the mistake of animated humans and demons and it threw the whole thing off. The acting in this movie was horrible. Some of the members from the Council were pretty good and Gianna Jun was good when she talked in her native tongue. When she switched over to english, it was pretty bad. I wanted to like her more because she worked hard on her character, but the movie was just too poor. This goes for the story line as well. Many pieces missing and just too choppy. So besides the couple cool fight scenes, this movie was pretty much a flop. October 26, 2009

The Red Shoes (Bunhong Shin) - Unrated Ok the story line to this movie was pretty decent at first and I really got interested. But the movie stretched 20 minutes too long. for when it hit that part, the story took a turn and really threw me off. Doing this, I lost interest and just wanted it to end. But there are many interesting scary and gory scenes to enjoy in this movie. Even in the 20 minutes that I hated. The cast was pretty good. The little girl who played Tae-soos was prety good. The main character played by Hye-su Kim was also good. I believe when Yong-gyun Kim had made this movie, he wanted the shoes to have a deeper meaning than just a killing tool. At parts you can really see some of the symbolism. At other parts, not so much. So it was a fun and interesting movie to watch, just needed a little more editing on the story front. Spider Baby, or The Maddest Story Ever Told (Attack of the Liver Eaters) - Unrated Nothing like seeing an older take on what zombies are like. But this is a bit deeper. It is a slow disease that takes time until you become a mentally challenged person who likes fresh meat; or what we consider zombies. The last was really good in this film. Beverly Washburn and Jill Banner were a great team of creepy young girls in their first state of getting the disease. Famous horror star Sid Haig played a man who was almost in the final stage of the disease. Lon Chaney Jr, who you might of seen playing a wolf man or a mummy, was the butler in charge of taking care of these people. This is until another side of the family wants to come and take the girls and the house away. But things go wrong. This movie has a lot of classic horror that you just don't see now a days. You get a lot of creepiness and some small scary scenes. Then a mix of a little comedy too for your enjoyment. Pretty good film. October 25, 2009

Bloodsucking Redneck Vampires - Unrated I really don't know why they let movies like this come out. Everyone knows what a B horror film is. It is full of crazy funny gore and has humorous bad acting. This movie was below that. The gore was stupid and the acting was so bad, it was annoying. No one in the film knew how to act their part. Also if you noticed, they dubbed in sound effects. But the effects were horrible. When a vampire bit someones neck, it sounded like someone taking a bite of an apple. It was pretty bad. This is defiantly on my list of worst movies ever made. Population 436 - R This film has a great concept, but was very slow pace. The towns people had a small creepy feel to them, but it wasn't enough. They needed to have more. The film's cast was decent but strange. Fred Durst was in it and I can tell that his singing career is not the only crap in his life. Jeremy Sisto was pretty good I guess, but it was hard to tell with the film being so slow. This movie really could of been creepy and scary if done right because it had such an excellent story. But unfortunately, it just wasn't much. October 25, 2009

Chinjeolhan geumjassi (Lady Vengeance) (Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) - R This was a close one out of the three from the revenge trilogy. I still stand by Oldboy being the best. They were both good, but Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance beats out this film, but only by a little bit. I will admit it has a really demented and horrible revenge plot by Yeong-ae Lee's character. She goes all out almost making herself a fictional character you would see in a comic book. She had the costume, the make-up and the really interesting gun that you had to get up close and personal with to fire it. There is a lot of back story for all the small characters in this film and at some points it is hard to follow, but will still keep you interested. This was not a bad end to the revenge trilogy at all. All three movies showed crazy horrible revenge scenes and that is what Park Chan-wook wanted. October 24, 2009

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (Boksuneun naui geot) - R The one good thing about this film was there was so much going on. At points you do get very confused though. When you get back to the main story, you still enjoy the film. But the film is very silent. I mean uncomfortably silent. But this is how the film needed to be. They wanted the viewer uncomfortable. Ha-kyun Shin is Deaf and also can't talk. He is trying to get a kidney for his dying sister. He is in love with a girl who considers herself a terrorist. They need money, they kidnap a young girl of a man. The story goes on and I left out all the crazy parts that makes this movie good. In the end Ha-kyun Shin's character and Kang-ho Song's character both go out on separate revenge rampages. This is until they come together and more mind blowing interesting things happen. Now what Park Chan-wook wanted to show was true revenge. That means there has to be painful scenes of people getting hurt. This movie does them. Probably not the strongest out of his revenge trilogy. Oldboy had the most, then this film, then Lady Vengeance. On a side note I did enjoy the character played by Seung-beom Ryu. He added a disturbing dark comedy side to the film in a small part. Second best out of the trilogy in my opinion. October 24, 2009

Phone (Pon) - R I pretty decent film. But he story gets pretty confusing and boring through the movie. Near the end, it really picks up and takes your mind for a whirl; but a good whirl. Now the young actress in the film, Seo-woo Eun did a pretty good job. There are parts when she was possesed by Jin-hee's ghost and she did a great job of acting creepy. One thing the film was missing was more scary or creepy parts. This left the movie boring until it finally picked up near the end. Luckily the story was decent enough to keep the viewer interested. I can't say that the title of the film is very good; but it does make sense. It is about a ghost with a cellphone; enough said. October 24, 2009

The Sentinel - R I really liked this movie. Besides a few errors in the story and the way it was filmed, I enjoy it all. First off it has a wonderful cast of people. Some big names like Ava Gardner, Chris Sarandon, Jeff Goldblum, Arthur Kennedy, Eli Wallach, Christopher Walken, Burgess Meredith, you name it. A great little surprise was of Richard Dreyfus. In the beginning of the film he was talking to a woman in red. He was just a background character and it looked like he was wearing the same outfit from Jaws; which was filmed two years before this film. At first I didn't know it was him until I looked it up. The film does keep you in a little suspense and adds some gore for a horror type flavor. But the one thing that freaked me out and freaked people out when the movie came out was the demons. This is a spoiler. The demons from hell all looked like they had disabilities or were deformed in someway. I come to figure out that Michael Winner really did cast deformed people and circus freaks to make it more real. Once I found this out, I had a sick creepy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Some people say they didn't enjoy this film. But I really did and it has a somewhat creepy feel like the movie The Shining. You just don't get that type of feel anymore and that is why I liked it. Phantasm - R The 1970s cult classic that will scare the life out of you. Lets get real here people. This movie was pretty bad. Don't get me wrong, it had some classic gore scenes. Well actually only two in the whole film. Also Angus Scrimm is an awesome character. He was really creepy. Too bad the rest of the acting sucked. A. Michael Baldwin was the best actor in the film and he was also the youngest; what does that tell you? Nothing really made sense in this film. It was a cheesy horror film with a science fiction story background. I couldn't tell what bugged me more in this film. How the lines in the script were so stupid or how Reggie Bannister was cast more of a pedophile than a hero. I mean come on. He was all over A. Michael Baldwin's character at one point and he also drove an ice cream truck and acted like it was the best job in the world. I am happy for everyone in this movie who made it a classic. But I am not happy how it was made. October 23, 2009

House - R I really don't understand what they were doing with the story of this film. This was made from a book. I am pretty sure the book was really good since they could write a huge story. But when you try to fit it into a 2 hour film, you get this. The movie jumped around way too much. There were parts that focused on one thing, then jumped to another scene that had nothing to do with the first. The cast was interesting. Some were brand new and some where older actors trying to get back into film. Leslie Easterbrook from Police Academy was one. I did enjoy her performance though. Michael Madsen was another and his performance was off pudding. The house and "bad guy" in the film brought everyone's nightmares back to haunt them. If they focused on this more, they would of had a great movie. But the nightmares were quick and not scary. If they focused on one point in this film, they could of made a great movie. But in this case, you can throw it in the garbage bag of bad horror films. October 23, 2009

Trick 'r Treat - R I couldn't believe what I saw. Michael Dougherty first hurt my feelings when he made the sequel to X-Men; making it not worthy of the first. Then he had to go and crush my dreams when he made Superman Returns. But then he has to go and make this little gem that I love. This movie was based off a short film by Dougherty called Season's Greetings. This was mostly about Sam; the little guy with the sack on his head. You will catch him a few times in this film. The film is basically four horror films put into one. Each short film interacts with another in someone and does begin and end with Sam. The cast for the most part was pretty good. I really enjoyed Anna Paquin and Dylan Baker's creepy role as the principal. Some of the younger actors and actresses needed more practice. The four stories were all interesting and had originality and stereotyped scenes. You even find yourself falling in love with little Same, even though he is pretty messed up. This is a perfect film for the Halloween season and a great big plus on Dougherty's record. October 21, 2009

Marebito - R I did enjoy this film. I do admit that it had many confusing parts. But when you get the story as a whole, you start to respect it more. Plus it takes away from the stereotypical vampire type and puts a different view on it. The movie was a mix of suspense with a couple small creepy scenes having to do with some ghosts. But for the most part it is about Shinya Tsukamoto's character taking care of Tomomi Miyashita's character. She really did play an interesting vampire type. Now it could be that she was not a vampire. But they kind of show clues to get you to that notion. Like I said, there was a couple small things I didn't like. Parts did tend to jump around and be confusing and the viewing of Deros. They were more cheesy looking than scary. But I did enjoy watching this film and it really did keep my attention. Cube Zero - R This movie wasn't too bad. It was enjoyable. I like how it talks mostly about the cube from the first movie and not the weird one from the second. But in this movie they state that there may be different cubes and not just one. This makes sense since this cube and the one from the first has colored rooms and the second only has white rooms. The cast ok, but not the best. The story was good, but there were parts that just didn't make sense. Almost like it was too easy to get out of the cube in this film compared to the other two. But I had to see this movie to get a little more info on the cube. I did get more information, but not as much as I hoped. October 21, 2009

Saint Ange (House of Voices) - R I really enjoyed the story of this film. The movie was also filmed in a more art or poetic type way. The cast was pretty good for the film. Lou Doillon was a good side character with a warped mind. The main character is played by Virginie Ledoyen. She keeps in character the whole time and is interesting to watch. Now like I said, this movie has a very interesting story and was fun to watch. But the scare factor was a little off. There were a few scenes that got me, but as many as you would expect from this type of movie. Especially since the film had ghosts of children. The movie was originally called Saint Ange and later re-released as House Of Voices, which in my opnion was a poor new title. I like the old title because it tells you nothing about the film, just where it takes place. October 21, 2009

Wicked Little Things - R I would like to call this movie more fun than scary. It did have little children zombies and the make up was scary, but not over done. The children did an excellent job though. They really gave off a creepy feel with their eyes. The two problems the movie had were the casting and the story. The casting was very strange. The cast themselves did a pretty decent job. But Lori Heuring as a mone and Scout Taylor-Compton as here daughter was a bit weird. Heuring says in the film that she was 18 when she had Taylor-Compton's character. But they seriously look about 2 years apart. It just really threw me off and it was really hard to take Lori Heuring seriously. The whole story had a really creepy feel to it. But how they filmed it left it boring and not entertaining at parts. But overall, the movie is fun to watch just to see the children. They did give the film the creepy feeling it needle to say into a horror type genre. October 20, 2009

Kôrei, (Seance) - PG This is a very slow movie. It really didn't have much of a scare factor at all. I mean don't get me wrong. It did have a little girl ghost and a couple other freaky ones, but not enough to give you nightmares. The movie did have a small build up and I was really hoping for a jam packed ending. But at the last 15 minutes of the film, it is as if they just; gave up. I was really confused. I actually found myself rewinding the movie because I thought I missed something. In the end though, the movie was uncomfortably silent in the dialog and story area. I could see this movie being really freaky if they just put it together right. I can't really tell if the cast was decent or not in the fact that their lines were so monotone. I will have to give credit to the little girl though. She had a little creepiness to her. Dead and Breakfast - R I am not going to lie. This is a pretty stupid movie. But I can't help but love it. The story is very weak, but it is basically about a possessed box that turns people into zombies. First the cast is great. The actors and actresses are more on the lower scale, but you will recognize them. The gore in this film is big, but more of the funny side. One thing that really makes this movie great is the music. There is a singer who narrates parts of the story, but in a country way. He even does this after he is turned into a zombie. All the music in general is funny, but on a good level. Not the type of music you are use to hearing in this type of movie. Because of these extra perks, it doesn't matter that the story is that bad. Another interesting piece they added was the drawings. During parts of the movie, it would pan out into a drawing consisting of the colors black, white and red. The red was pointing out the important parts of the movie. So overall, this is just a cheesy B Horror film. But one of the good ones that is fun to watch. October 14, 2009

Cinderella - G There was only a couple things about this movie that bugged me. At some points it got really confusing. That and some of the young girl actresses got annoying. Other than that, it was great. Once the movie ends, you get the whole story put into your mind. It is a crazy story, but you feel relieved for the fact that you are kept in suspense the whole time. This movie hits hard on a personal level between mother and daughter. A real added twist would be the fact that the mom is a plastic surgeon. The name of the movie is Cinderella. Everyone knows the story of Cinderella. This film takes the concept of not fitting in and being pretty from Cinderella and really puts a demented twist on it. Very interesting movie to watch. Gwai wik (Re-cycle) - R I will admit that the movie started a little slow. But from later on, it was nothing but great to watch. I can't believe this movie is based off the recycle bin from a computer. Anyways, this movie is a fantasy horror mix; which you don't see a lot. It is fun to watch and at the same time, just demented and terrifying. Basically, there is this world were everything goes that is forgotten. Anything from parts of stories, to people that have passed away. Angelica Lee, who was also in the movie "The Eye", is a writer who enters this world. The cast is really good. A great performance from Yagi Zeng, the little girl. The story is a little confusing at first, but all comes together by the end and is pretty good. The most interesting thing as a viewer, is that I found myself getting exciting for the fantasy feel. But then something scary would come up and I would completely switch my mind. Just the fact that it can go back and forth like that and still keep an interest, is a great skill from the writers. A fun movie with a scary twist. October 14, 2009

Children of the Corn - Unrated I was really excited to see this at first. I saw the original along time ago and I was really curious how they would remake it. Now the story was changed just a little. Instead of a priest making the children kill people, it was another child who considered himself the first prophet. So in some ways, it is the same; and in other ways different. The acting was ok depending on the person. My favorite actor in the film would have to be Preston Bailey who played the leader Issac. He was creepy and in my opinion better than the original Issac from the older film. David Anders is in it. You may remember him from the show Heroes. I have never seen an actor show no emotion in a film, but he did it. Oh, and that is not a good thing. There is a scene when a car is about to blow up. It is shot in slow motion you would think that Anders would run towards it yelling the word "no" with his mouth wide open. That was not the case. His mouth barely opened and he barely moved. The voice over for it did not match his movements. Now the thing that really got to me was the story. It was good, but way too slow in the beginning. It wasn't until the last 30 minutes or so, it got really interesting. But then the movie just stopped, and that was it. I will admit, there were some gruesome scenes that made your jaw drop; but it wasn't enough to save this film. October 14, 2009

Night of the Demons - R Everything about this movie was classic B horror style. Gore, demons, sex, nudity, a person of every race, bad acting, you name it. Now with these types of movies you really have to like it to give it a good rating. I tried to enjoy this film a lot, but I couldn't get into it. Some of the acting was so bad, I wanted to rip my hair out. But some of the actors were decent I guess. Billy Gallo was decent. One thing the movie had going for itself was the make up. It was the great use of make up and props. None of that CG that you see in later films. There is just something about that cheesy make up that makes it look more real and fun. Even though I couldn't really get into this movie, since the story was just stupid, I will have to say it still had some funny scenes. But the scenes were only funny because they are so bad. An example would be when this one guy got his eyes pushed out. It was more funny that gross. October 14, 2009

The Gods Must Be Crazy - PG It is weird actually. This movie is very slow and seems very long. But you can't help but watch it. I actually had some enjoyment out of it. The movie was almost like a mockumentary, but seems more real. The way they filmed it was just like those old documentaries you would see in elementary school. Maybe that is why I enjoyed it so much. It made me feel a little like a kid again when watching it. But all in all, the movie is only ok. Like I said, it is slow and some parts are boring. It is only the parts with the Kalahari bushman that are interesting to watch. October 14, 2009

Deadgirl - R Ok I had a real problem with this film. Now I will say that for more non mainstream actors, these were pretty good. They were really not that cheesy at all. But this is where I am stuck. The movie is about two guys who find a zombie type girl. Through most of the movie they have her tied up and they are raping her. They think it is ok since she is already dead. But I am not sure what would make this a scary movie. First off, it is not a very tasteful story line at all. Second, what is the point of making a zombie movie if the zombie is just sitting there the whole time. The movie was just all in bad taste. With great younger actors like these, you could of made a pretty good movie; if you wanted to. Instead, you end up making a piece of crap cause all you can do is think about sex. October 12, 2009
