Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams - R This movie was just entertaining for the fact that there was so much going on at once. I don't even think there really was a story line to it. It was like someone just took random everyday shots of what happened in these two guys life. If there was nothing going on, I would of hated the movie completely. So I guess it has that going for it. But what can you really say about Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. They are just crazy really. They are old school entertainment you have have to love them for it. There was a side character in the film played by Paul Reuben which was interesting, but also not that good. So overall, it was just an ok yet wacky film to see. August 9, 2009

In Bruges - R I enjoyed this movie more than I thought. Now I usually don't really think of Colin Farrell as a good actor, but he has his moments. This was one of the moments. He showed laughter, seriousness and even some drama. His partner in crime was played by Brendan Gleeson who played it cool through most of the film and then showed you an exciting side to his character near the end. The only other person who was pretty good was Ralph Fiennes. He may not look like the evil type, but with his accent and gestures, he will show you an interesting side. The story was a little weak at parts, but did make up for it at other parts. This is a nice little dark comedy and a pretty good movie. August 6, 2009

Shinobi (Shinobi: Heart Under Blade) - R Visually the movie was beautifully done. All the interesting characters and their different fight moves. All the colors from the different areas. The fight scenes that were really fun to watch since it was more of a fantasy type movie. The cast was pretty good also. The two leads were played by Jo Odagiri and Yukie Nakama; two lovers who are on opposite sides and have to fight each other. If I could pick two side characters I liked, it would be Tomoka Kurotani and Tak Sakaguchi who was the lead in the movie, "Verses". So like I said, the movie visually was great, but the story jumped way too much. There is so much of the story missing. But luckily the characters make up for it with their personalities. The Other Boleyn Girl - PG-13 The movie was ok, but really boring at parts. The story seemed like it was missing so much too. There were parts they needed to concentrate on and instead, just let them fly by. Because of this, you cannot really stay that interested in the story. The case was ok. Eric Bana was decent. Natalie Portman was good. Scarlett Johansson was actually not that good in this film. This was based on a true story about Henry VIII. Yet you would think if this movie is about Henry VIII, it would be more exciting and it wasn't. So it wasn't the best movie out there, but it is worth watching at least once, I guess. July 30, 2009

Baby Mama - PG-13 This movie is not as bad as most SNL casted movies. I actually found myself liking it more than I thought. The cast is pretty good. I think Rina Fey is great. Amy Poehler is annoying, but at parts tolerable. Dax Shepard was basically playing the character he played in, "Idiocracy". There were two great cameos in the film. One from a great SNL guest and the other a Veteran SNL member. This would be Sigourney Weaver and Steve Martin. I don't want to give away their parts. But Steve Martin is great in this film. Greg Kinnear was pretty good in the film as well. So a pretty great cast. The reason the movie is not the best is because the comedy gets boring and the story is just not really there. That can really hurt a film that is basing itself just on humor alone. July 29, 2009

The Promotion - R A very nice quirky comedy. Everybody in the cast did a great job and you find yourself liking all the different personalities. But Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly probably did the best, since they played rivals in the movie. My one problem with the movie was that it tried too hard. This is more of a lighter comedy. One you can watch and get really interested in and then laugh at some parts. But it seems like they were making it out to be a laugh out loud strong type which ruined some scenes for me. The movie did have a strong story to it also which was good. Some parts seemed a little boring, but with the strong story it was easier to sit through. July 26, 2009

Visioneers - Unrated This movie is interesting from start to finish, but boring at parts. It is a black comedy, so do expect to be laughing like crazy. Zach Galifianakis plays a really interesting role about a man who is trying to sort out his life, so he doesn't explode. The story line is very complex and takes time to make you think, but it has a goofy background about all these people exploding, which adds into the black comedy. The movie also takes place in the future, which is also strange. The rest of the cast is pretty decent. I enjoyed DW Moffett. This movie will make you think a lot. So if you are looking for a comedy to just laugh at, this is not one. July 26, 2009

[Rec] - R This was nearly a perfect horror type film in my opinion. But one thing really screwed it up for me. It was the ending. The movie built up some major suspense and the ending just threw it away. The movie is all filmed with a little camera that shakes a lot. So if you do not like that, you will hate the movie probably. But it was made to look like a real video was found of what happened that one night. The film has this great story about a woman reporter who at one moment, is interviewing firefighters and the next moment is running from what looks to be zombies. The movie has a really creepy feel for it seems so real. Like if people were infected, this is maybe how it would happen. So overall, great film. I just wish they didn't give up on the ending. The Prince of Pennsylvania - R There is not much to say about Keanu Reeves acting when he was younger. Well you could say it sucked a bit. He had that surfer guy voice and attitude which was in most of his movies in the 80s. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not. In this movie it did not. The haircut he had was just strange. I couldn't stop looking at it. The title of the movie makes no sense until the end of the film when he says one line. The end of the film wasn't even that good either. The whole movie was just off pudding and there were a few parts that made you watch. The movie had no swearing, but a nude scene that made it rated R. Great thinking when writing this film. The rest of the cast was ok. The best performance was probably by Fred Ward who played the father. July 26, 2009

Seven Pounds - PG-13 This was a really good movie. The one problem I had was how the story jumped around so much. It was to the point where you didn't want to watch at parts. But near the end it finally tells you what this movie is about since you are guessing through the whole film. But in the end, that is what makes this movie great. Very suspenseful, but with no action. Will Smith was great, but I have a problem with him. He keeps playing in movies that are all about him. They need to make the side characters really interesting too so it is not all about Will Smith. Rosario Dawson played a really good part also. One of the little side characters I liked was probably Woody Harrelson. To me it seemed like the whole cast had it together and really got into their parts, so that is good. So this is a great movie to watch that will make you laugh, cry and think a whole lot. July 26, 2009

Spawn - PG-13 This movie was ok, but still a disappointment. I have been a big fan of Spawn. What makes Spawn, Spawn, is the fact that it is off the wall. Great stories, great gore and a lot of pain. Hollywood had ripped this great comic apart to make it better for the screens. They could not make it as gory or off the wall as the comic and that is what gave it the downfall. The cast was ok. Michael Jai White played a decent Spawn. But the star was John Leguizamo as the Clown. He really brought the crazy in the film. So it was ok for a hollywood film, I just wish it was a lot better. Brother Bear - G I personally really liked this movie. The music is very soothing thanks to Phil Collins. The voice over cast was great in this film also. This was a more sad type film, but there was comedy thrown in to keep it in an uplift. This is probably not one of the best animated films by Disney, but I really did enjoy it. It is just one of those nice Sunday afternoon films to sit back and watch. It is a nice film for the whole family. July 24, 2009

Batman Begins - PG-13 Bringing batman back the way it should be. Batman was made to be dark and this movie did it. My props to the cast and crew for making this great film. Christian Bale played a great Bruce Wane although there were a few iffy parts that made his voice sound weird. Gary Oldman is great in this film also. The whole cast is really good. Watching the old batmans and then watching this one is a big change. This is really the way batman is suppose to be. He is called the dark knight and this movie is nothing but dark. This is a great comic movie and a must see in my opinion. July 24, 2009

I Am Legend - PG-13 This was a tough movie to rate. I found myself hating and liking parts of the film. I really like the feeling of how it is just Will Smith and the dog for the longest time. It gives you a creepy and uneasy feel. But I really hate the mutated people. Most of the CG was just horrible for this film. Especially the animals. But overall, the story was ok with a pretty crappy ending. You would want to see an amazing ending to this strange story, but you just don't get it. I would of also liked to see more from the side characters like Alice Braga. So I don't know. I rated the movie neutral for the fact that I did enjoy it till the end even though I hated some of the scenes. So I would say the movie is worth seeing at least once. July 24, 2009

Lucky You - PG-13 This is a lower key movie. It really has nothing much to it. No huge suspense or excitement. Just something nice to watch when you have nothing else to do. The story was pretty crisp and made sense. The cast was pretty good also. I am not too fond of Eric Bana, but he played this role great. Drew Barrymore was ok, but her character didn't seem comfortable to me. There is a few small parts in the movie played by some good actors also. You could kind of call them cameos. If you are a poker fan, this is a fun movie to watch. If not, it is just an all around nice movie to watch. Pretty good film. July 23, 2009

Black Sheep - Unrated I really couldn't help but enjoy parts of this film just because you can really get a laugh out of it. For the most part the film was boring at parts and the story was just really not there. For what I can see, it seems like the movie was made just for fun. I did enjoy watching it. It is worth seeing because when was the last time you saw someone sucker punch a sheep? The cast was ok. I did enjoy Peter Feeney. The rest was just ok for me. Nathan Meister had too much of a whiny performance to the point where he got on my nerves. So I guarantee you will laugh some at this movie and it is one of a kind. So check it out. July 23, 2009

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - PG This was a better improvement compared to the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. But one thing they still make a mistake on is the fact that the story is so jumpy. They try to rely on the fantasy feel and the action to overcome the fact that the story just seems to be missing parts. They made this error in the first movie as well. But I will say the entertainment factor was a lot stronger on this film. The cast was pretty decent too. The movie really did seem rushed though, which seems weird since it did run over 2 hours. Well hopefully they will learn from their mistakes before making the third one. July 22, 2009

The Haunting in Connecticut - PG-13 I found this movie to be decent on today's standards. You usually see horror movies being full of nudity and guts and blood. Not much of a scare factor. But this movie did not overuse anything like that. It had little gore and a very nice scare factor. The cast was pretty good. Kyle Gallner did very good as his role. Virgina Madsen did an ok job, but not my favorite role by her. It was a nice added feature to have Elias Koteas in the movie since he felt pretty comfortable with his role. The overall story was really good, but there was one problem that kept coming up to ruin the movie for me. The movie was "based" on a true story. If they would of kept it more towards a true story it would of been pretty cool. But they added a few really cheesy scenes that are way out of the ordinary. Most of the movie just had an overall creepy feel until some of these cheesy scenes popped up and ruined it all. But overall, a pretty decent horror film of 2009. July 21, 2009

The Last Supper - R This movie did have some interesting people for the cast like Cameron Diaz, Annabeth Gish, Jason Alexander, Ron Pelman, you name it. The story was interesting, but not really that complex at all which did make the movie lose some feeling. I think the one thing that made this film fun to watch would have to be the dialog. There was a lot and it did add some humor to this lower key film. Again, there really isn't that much to this movie. It is just a nice little film to watch if you are bored one day. July 20, 2009

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - PG I know all the Harry Potter fans will rate this high, but I couldn't make myself do it. I am not looking at this film as a fan, but as a critic. This movie was on par with the very first Harry Potter. It was not exciting at all. They relied strictly on story only with some added humor. I mean there was a couple scenes of action, but not enough to check the viewer interested. Now don't get me wrong, it was still a nice film and the cast was great as always, but most parts were down right boring to the point where my eyes got heavy. I think I know what they are doing though. They kept this film more on the down low to set up the last film of the Harry Potter series which will be jam packed full of action. I do suggest to see this film for it does have some fun scenes and you need to see it if you saw all the others. So again, I was not looking at just a fan based film of the series, but also the movie as a whole. Lets hope the last one of the series is flat out almost a perfect movie. July 15, 2009

Green Street Hooligans - R The story is a little off at parts, but it all comes right back together and makes a great movie. This piece really shows some of the main differences in America and England's culture. The movie is very dark and really does have some deep moments in the beginning, middle and end. Elijah Wood was pretty good in the film, yet he really didn't do much. But the star was probably Charlie Hunnam who played his role great. The rest of the cast was also pretty good. This story really shows a violent world in England and how all these people had to deal with it. Great movie. July 14, 2009

Kataude mashin gāru (The Machine Girl) - Unrated I have to say I liked this movie for its grindhouse effect. Nothing like a cute girl on a rampage ripping people till there is nothing left. Yes I will have to admit the story is just not that good and doesn't leave much to the imagination, but that is not what this movie is about. It is about the action and the gore, which there is a lot of. Minase Yashiro does a great job as the little Ami. A poor girl who lost her brother to a gang of kids. So she gets her revenge on them and their families. But she doesn't just kill, she destroys. You will see some strong gore in this film, but worth it if you like that type of thing. So not the best movie in the world, but defiantly an interesting one. July 13, 2009

The House Bunny - PG-13 Another flop by Happy Madison. Oh well. I mean don't get me wrong, the movie did have its moments. Anna Faris made me laugh a few times. But not through the whole movie. The rest of the cast was just ok for me. Well, Colin Hanks was pretty good too I guess. The story was just not there and very stupid. The movie seemed to jumped around a lot to the point where you just kind of give up and hope that scenes come up to makes you laugh. I watched this movie because I really wanted to give it a chance. But I just could not get into it. July 13, 2009

Chocolate - R A new movie by Prachya Pinkaew. Now if you liked Ong-Bak and The Protector, you will like this movie. Basically the girl, played by JeeJa Yanin, has a form of autism. But when she really concentrates on something, she can learn it really fast. Outside her house there are guy practicing Muay Thai and she is also addicted to Tony Jaa films. So she easily learns Muay Thai, Tony Jaa style. Now watch this movie if you love great fight scenes because the story is not that good. I mean, it is there and does make sense, but overall, it is not that interesting. But the acting and the fighting is what makes this movie. The cast is great, including the stunt people who should of been paid extra. You will see what I am talking about when you see the footage they added in the credits. In fact JeeJa Yanin should of been paid extra too. Now Prachya Pinkaew really tried to recreate the intensity of Tony Jaa's fighting. JeeJa Yanin could keep up, but didn't have the power Tony Jaa did. So you will not get the power of Tony Jaa, but you do still get some crazy teeth grinding fight scenes. Again, don't expect much from the story, but expect a lot from the fighting. Pretty decent movie. July 8, 2009

Versus - Unrated I heard about this movie and expected it to be amazing. But I think it is hyped up too much. I mean the story is just horrible that even a 5 year old could write a better one. Some of the acting was pretty bad also. Tak Sakaguchi and Hideo Sakaki seemed to be decent actors though. But there is one thing that keeps you interested in this film and that is the fight scenes. The film has very interesting and well played out fight scenes. Those scenes alone can give it a decent rating in my book. But not super high. If only the story, editing and some acting was more intact, this would of been one amazing movie. July 7, 2009
