A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984, R)
Probably the most influential movie of my life. I was born in 83' and saw this movie as a very young boy, and had nightmares about Freddy for years to come after that. |

Year of the Dog (2007, PG-13)
This is definitely my favorite movie of 2007. A wonderfully cute and sad movie about an animal enthusiast. Or I guess you could just say "dog-lover". Don't be fooled in to thinking this is your typical, slap-happy, Molly Shannon role. It is very much so dramatic, and depressing. The humor is very dry, and hard to find if you are looking too hard. This is not like anything you have seen from either director Mike White, or Molly Shannon, I can guarantee. You don't have to be an animal freak to enjoy this movie. But it does require a sort of appreciation for subtlety, which I am big on in movies. Please watch, let me know what you think! |

The Painted Veil (2006, PG-13)
A great movie! I did watch this all the way through, although both the people that started watching with me bailed at least halfway through. So yes, it is a little boring if you are not in the mood for a dramagedy with very depressing over-tones. I was very impressed with both Ed Norton and Naomi Watts, probably more-so for Naomi, as I don't recall ever seeing her act so well in any other roles. This is a movie about overcoming hardship, forgiveness, and love. It is also very much so about humanity, and the struggle of a viral epidemic. A history lesson as well, taking place in 1920's China. Based on the novel, this movie is obviously well written, but I believe that Director John Curran does a wonderful job of painting the scenes and settings, to give you a real authentic feeling of the location and times of the story. A touching story, and important lesson of life and love. |
