Dead Space: Downfall - Unrated I had no intention of ever watching this, but a friend wanted to watch it, and it was better than I thought it would be at least. The story was actually pretty interesting, but it was too disgusting for my tastes. It has a great mood for fans of sci-fi/horror, and almost constantly reminded me of either Resident Evil or Alien. Up - PG Up is what I am beginning to expect from Pixar. I havent really loved a Pixar film since Monsters, Inc, but this is still a pretty entertaining movie, and at about the same level as the others. I dont know if that is because I am outgrowing PIxar or not.

The characters were more interesting, and I cared about them more than I did for Wall-E, even Doug. And the story was very cute, but way more serious than I was expecting. I cried a lot, but I dont think that is necessarily a bad thing in a kids movie, because the young ones probably wouldnt see it the same way, and will simply enjoy it for the excitement. And on that front this is most definitely a movie for young kids. It is seen in the previews that there was a talking dog, but I didnt expect the villain to have an entire army of talking dogs that can fly planes and do all the house work including the cooking. It was a little ridiculous.

But I am glad that this has a lot more endearing moments than I have seen in a Pixar movie in awhile, which is one of the things I love the most about Monsters Inc and Toy Story.

Zombieland - R The only reason anyone would call this a horror movie is because of the presence of a common horror element. Zombies. But this is in no way a horror story. It was first and foremost a buddy movie, then a comedy, then an action. I liked the action. This movie had style. I enjoyed the casual atmosphere they created, the narration, and the survival rules. Extremely unique. But it didnt wow me. I was kind of expecting more after all the good things I had heard. Also the premise and the genre combination should have been a sure thing for me. I think the 'buddy' aspect was too much of a focus for my liking, instead of just focusing on survival, action, and kicking zombie ass. November 21, 2009

Speed Racer - PG Extremely childish, but if you have a weakness for movies targeted at people with ADD, this is for you. My nephews absolutely love it, and I dont see that as a bad thing. Its so fast and flashy that it keeps my attention start to finish. Gorgeous colors. November 9, 2009

Angels & Demons - PG-13 Considering how unimpressed I was with The Da Vinci Code, I am incredibly surprised how much I enjoyed this. There was awhile there when I though it might even earn a 4.5 from me. But the ending disappointed me a tad. I saw the twist coming early on, but then I thought to myself, "Nah, it cant be." Then later, I suspected the ending again, but dismissed it again. I was reluctant to admit it to myself because I am a huge fan of a certain actor involved in the twist.

However, it wasnt a terrible ending, it just wasnt the best one possible. And the rest of the movie was more than enough to make up for it. Being on the clock over a span of only a few hours, it was non-stop suspense, thrills, and action. This is a perfect example of "edge of your seat". At 2 hrs. 20 min, it did not feel long at all. And that likely had something to do with Hans Zimmer's score. It was absolutely beautiful and captivating. Sometimes you get caught up in the action or story of a movie, and dont consciously notice the score, but this is one that cant be missed.

I also greatly enjoyed the amount of decyphering and symbology used. It reminded me of National Treasure, revealing secrets about the past of the the Catholic Church, instead of the United States, both huge powers. This is one I will definitely want to add to my collection.

Chandni Chowk To China - PG-13 This is definitely not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. I love action/comedy combos, even if this went a little overboard sometimes, like the Cosmos Kick and the little whirlwind he made at the end. It would have been better without those outrageous "Kung Fu Hustle" bits, but it was still a great mix. Love the blend of kung fu and big Bollywood musical numbers. Some great action, a gorgeous cast, and a decent story. And I always enjoy a nice 'zero to hero' story. November 4, 2009
