A Perfect Getaway - R Its a rather slow movie. Most of the time you are just trying to figure out who the killers are in your mind although not much is happening on screen. In the end I was surprised by the answer, which is good, but it may just be me. I tend to be really slow when it comes to that sort of thing. Never seen anything coming. But I only watched it for Milla, and in that respect it is worth it. January 1, 2010

Avatar - PG-13 Even through all the hype, I didnt think I would like this as much as I did. Everyone got my hopes up, but they still were not high enough. The only movie to crack my top 15 since 2000 is Pirates of the Caribbean, and I didnt think it would happen again for a long time. But Avatar is currently settled at #12.

It didnt take long for me to be completely amazed by this movie. First, with how realistic the avatars looked, and they moved like they were perfectly real. And then with Pandora and the alien life. It is the most alien, alien planet I have ever seen. The closest would be Felucia from Revenge of the Sith, but that was only seen for seconds. I literally gasped when we saw close-ups of some of the life there, and would have sworn they were real creatures, but still like nothing I have seen before. And the plant-life was the same. Gorgeous and diverse and real, but so alien.

Of course, the story is somewhat familiar, but still relevent, and with enough new elements for it to not be at all distracting. And the characters are more convincing than anything I can remember seeing in a movie. Its hard to develop characters in a 2 hour movie compared to a well-developed TV series. But somehow they really managed to do it in this one, when you would think alien characters would make it harder. This must be, in large part, due to excellent acting, but not to forget every single other detail that contributed in making this feel real. When I saw the humans destroying the Na'vi's home, I really felt for them. I was extremely sad. There were so many moments where it was all I could do to stop myself from jumping from my seat and crying out with excitement. I felt like I was going to explode holding it in. I really havent felt that involved in a movie since Star Wars. Wow! Maybe this needs to move up a few spots.

Now I know what ppl meant when they were saying real-life feels boring after Avatar. Who doesnt want to be a Na'vi now?

And I feel like this review hasnt even scratched the surface of how awesome Avatar is.

Jurassic Park - PG-13 Revolutionary in so many ways. Amazing, one of the best. Everyone remembers what it was like the first time they saw the T-Rex step onto the road, as if it was really there.

Public Enemies - R I really enjoyed seeing the history in this movie. The clothes and the cars and the society of the day. Everything felt so authentic. The story was decently interesting but I had trouble caring about the characters, which is very surprising since Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are two of my favourite actors. I enjoyed Marion Cotillard's performance the most. She was wonderful. December 27, 2009

9 - PG-13 The complexity and scope of the story were really unimpressive and felt like a children's movie. They tend to keep them simple not to confuse the children. But the mood and setting of this were extremely mature. Not to mention the dead bodies laying all over the place. This seems to have no audience, or I just cant figure out what it is supposed to be. I semi-enjoyed it because of its obvious uniqueness but its really not worth a second watch. December 27, 2009

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - PG Even tho I havent read this book yet, I found this rather disappointing. I have read the first 5 books but decided to wait till this movie came out to continue since it was only a few months away when I finished OotP, and reading the book would probably make the movie seem horrible. But now that I know how JKR writes, and how much was left out of the last two movies, I could see so many gaps. I'll assume thats the fault of the movie makers since JKR never missed a detail before.

There were a lot of things that really werent explained very well. It all feels so vague. The horcruxes, what exactly happened in the cave, what was up with Harry's textbook. Really, not that much happened. I dont understand how this movie ended up being 2 hrs. 33 min. There was very, very little action. A breif scene at the Burrow and a breif scene outside Hagrid's, both of which are almost not worth mentioning. There was very poor use of some favourite supporting characters. I think we only saw Hagrid once and Remus and Tonks were completely wasted and their relationship was only breifly hinted at. The relationships between the main characters, on the other hand, was focused on way too much. I find them quite cute in the previous movies when they just have a few awkward seconds, but when you have to cut out half the story in order to fit into movie length, there must be more important things to keep. Perhaps the target audience wants teen drama, but thats not why I decided to watch an action/fantasy epic series. Although the scene with Harry and Ron talking about Ginny and Hermoine's skin was entertaining. That would have been one of the few scenes I would have kept, if its originally in the book that is.

I dont know how to place this compared to the first two movies since they stand alone as children's movies, but this is definitely my least favourite of the last 4 Harry Potter movies.

Edit: Now that I have read HBP, this movie makes a lot more sense to me, but its still my least favourite of the last 4 movies. Possibly my fave of the books so far, though.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice - PG This is awesome, I love NIcolas Cage! He's getting a little older so he is not the typical action hero anymore. What do you do? Make him a sorcerer cuz sorcerers are usually a little older, but still kick butt! December 9, 2009
