Brutal, bad-ass and superbly directed! A WWII movie made in classic Tarantino style. You got the chapter division, eclectic soundtrack, well-written dialogue and colorful characters. Basically all the great elements that we recognize from his previous productions. Sadly though, it also possesses some of the same flaws. I mean, I'm all for dialogue-driven stories, but I don't think this movie would have suffered from a little more action. Because 2½ hours is a lot to sit through, when the better part of the film consists of "talking heads". In any case, it's thoroughly enjoyable. Not as good as to be called great, but still the best work by Tarantino since Pulp Fiction.

Precisely what I expected it to be: an entertaining, but crappily written disaster flick. Just like in Emmerich's previous films, the special effects are breath-takingly good. Definitely some of the best I've ever seen. The script, however, is so full of clichés that the film really had no identity at all. Many scenes will make you cringe, and there's such a multitude of silly, sappy and cheesy moments that it almost bordered on becoming a parody. I mean, I know it's hopeless to look for believability in this type of story, but when the main characters make a close-call plane escape for the third time in a row, it started to get on my nerves. And by the end, you just dont care anymore about who lives and who dies. Even so, I have to say I liked it for the most part. Because altough being founded upon a lousy screenplay, it sure delivered on the action. In other words, a pretty good popcorn flick, but nothing I'd wanna add to my own movie shelf.

The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King
PG-13
My favourite movie of all time (so far in my life that is). Even if it isn't perfect, I still feel it's a 4.9 out of 5. I'm a real sucker for the Lord of the Rings and fantasy in general, but this one is very special to me. Kudos to Peter Jackson for making such a great adaptation to screen. It really deserves its 12 oscars. Love every second of it, from start to finish. One of the few full pointers I've ever given a movie, which is saying a lot.

Epic movies don't get much better than this. Mel Gibson may be a nut to some, but he sure knows how to make quality that counts :-)
