***NOTE: I am ONLY on Flixster to chat online with movie buddies, discuss films, and do reviews. I am not here for romantic purposes so if that's what you are looking for - look elsewhere! If you do write me, please have at least a MCT score and some reviews on your page so that we can have something to discuss & I can get a feel for what you are like.
The movies I enjoy are mostly indie films. They need to make me think and want to participate, not just be passive... but, I also enjoy comedies (of the Will Ferrel variety), some blockbusters, and a bunch of cheesey 80's movies that make me lose any cred I may have otherwise gained from my indie loving movie buddies (see the guilty pleasures collection). Let's review, shall we? :) |

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
R
The depth of the character development and the actors in this film are phenomenal! It may have been long but we got completed story archs which is something that most films don't do anymore. The stand out performances were Pitt, Afflek, and Rockwell. Wow. Very well made! The cinematography was original and mezmerizing.

Into the Wild
R
This movie was just about perfect. My new favorite! To quote Brian W, "The acting is good... The cinematogaphy is brilliant. The casting is inspired.... Emile Hirsch should get some sort of recognition for this role. And perhaps Sean Penn as director."
2.
The Royal Tenenbaums
R
Gene Hackman at his funniest! The soundtrack, the set design, the script, the oddball humor, I was laughing out loud when I first saw this movie. This is one that I could watch over & over. Most people I talk to either completely love it or completely hate it. I love it!!!
3.
Rescue Dawn
PG-13
This movie had excellent acting, overall well done in almost every aspect. Loved it!
4.
Before Sunrise
R
Instantly fell in love with these two! The movie is almost all dialogue and I can't say that I had experienced watching a movie like that before I watched this one so it took a little getting used to but it was great! It made the impossible (meeting and falling in love with someone in one night) seem possible... Call me a hopeless romantic. ;)
5.
Before Sunset
R
Ah, I instantly fell in love with these two in Before Sunrise but this movie (the second of the set) shot 9 years after the first, sealed the deal for me. Love, love, love it!!!

So I Married an Axe Murderer
PG-13
Woman, woman, woman - that poem/song never got old. Oh, and every scene where Mike plays a Scottish dad, "Look at the size of his head, it's like an orange on a toothpick." Good times. This movie was so underated! It is full of funny, quotable lines and I love the scene with the prison guard. I almost peed my pants! The end is kinda dumb but that aside, this is one of Mike's best movies (according to me).

Iron Man
by B.Excellent from beginning to end, Ironman is probably one of my favorite comic book adaptations to move onto the big screen! I really enjoyed the story, which is usually the downfall of some of the past comic book films. With a great cast of writers Ironman was sure not to disappoint. Robert Downey Jr. was the perfect choice for Tony Stark, he cleary had the swagger and hero persona well balanced, the man can do no wrong. I loved the suit, it maintained the hero quality and mystique for the enemies. Two thumbs up for director Jon Favreau who kept the suit consistent with the comic book and made a incredible film. A great supporting cast spearheaded by Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Palthrow and Terrence Howard. Ironman is a must watch not only for fans of the comic book genre but for fans of action cinema.
Favorite Scene: The speech at the end with the press!Hey, you should really see this! For those of you who already saw it, I just wanted to let you guys know what I think.

Festen (The Celebration)
by B.An incredible Dogma Film! This is real Cinema at it's most honest and cruelest. It's categorized as part of the Dogma movement that was started in 1995 by Danish directors Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg with the signing of the Dogme 95 Manifesto and the VOW OF CHASTITY (Recommend to look into for true cinema lovers) which state rules like, only hand held, no bringing props onto the set, no use of special lighting, no sounds added and no post-production. The emphasis on purity forces the filmmakers to focus on the actual story and on the actors' performances. Amaizing enough, in some scenes the actors held the camera for their own shots. "Celebration"(Festen) throws us into the world of the Klingenfeldt family as they celebrate their fathers 60th birthday party, when some unpleasant family truths are revealed the family is split and all hell breaks loose . Done so well by diretor and writer Thomas Vinterberg. This is a must see for admirers of ALL- Film era's and how a movie doesn't need eye candy and special effects, just a great story.

Coffee and Cigarettes
by B.On my on going quest to watch Jim Jarmusch's films, last night I saw "Coffee and Cigarettes". Let me first say it's a film that purely supports the title. The entire film is based on people sitting at a cafe, usually two enjoying or at least trying to enjoy a cup of coffe and obviously, cigarettes. Jarmusch managed to capture the simplicity of everyday conversation and revolve it around coffee and cigarettes. The cast includes a mix of talents like Bill Murray, Roberto Benigni, Jack White, Cate Blanchett just to name a few. I love how the film is in black and white, besides the contrast, it symbolizes and enhances the ying and yang, right and wrong in the conversations that take place. This is quite different from his past films I've seen like "Dead Man" or "Down by Law" which are films that take us to different places. In "Coffee and Cigarettes" the actors take us to different places and sometimes share their with us their awkward moments. Aesthetically this film reminds me of his other film "Stranger than Paradise" where all the scenes in the film where done in one shot. "Coffee and Cigarettes" is brilliant, a very cool film and very funny if you listen carefully. Jarmusch is underated and should be more recognized for his cinematic brilliance.
FAVORITE LINE: "Your a MANIAC, A CAFFEINE MANIAC ! "a MUST watch. Especially for JIM JARMUSCH fans!
