Remarkable movie on all fronts, story, directing, exciting, twisted, dark, demented at times, thought provoking heart breaking and powerful. With every actor pulling their weight throughout every scene. The intertwined stories have you thinking during and far after it being over, this is all anyone could hope for from a movie. Beautifully shot, it begs you to watch it in IMAX to shows its true masterful colors. It has everything I could have ever asked for in any movie. Hats off to all who took part in putting this masterpiece together. Every scene grabs and drags you though its grit of traumatic and heart stopping moments. The Joker was brilliant! Ledger did an amazing job in bringing to the table a Joker of his own, while staying very true to the basics and nature of the character. The city of Chicago is shown in a wonderful light/darkness, but still put together in a way that can be made into its own, Gotham City.
And to the people who blame hype for the disappointment you have. Try not reading anything beforehand and stop people from talking to you about it before you see it, if you know that it will effect the way you watch and think about the movie. Jeez.
2nd go around: I fell more in love with this movie. There were still things to look and listen for, and I'm sure there still is. While the first time I found the Joker very funny, witty and haunting. This time I was taken aback in truing feeling the curlness of that character. Once you leave the theater, this movie will not let go of you. Be warned that it will be suctioned onto you brain and take over thoughts.
This story is beyond fantastic. And personally very relatable in a strange way(July 17th birthdate). The idea of obsession and how far it takes up is a utterly fascinating subject, and this film covers it very thoroughly. Through the history and life of Jean-Baptiste you find yourself contemplating yourself and how far you would take your own passions. Great acting, a darkly compelling story.
I love this movie! The story and character dynamics are fantastic to watch right before your eyes. Brilliant performances from both Penn and Robbins. Horrifying and heartwarming all at the same time, how far would you cross the line for your daughters murder?
I love this movie! Daniel Day-Lewis in just amazing, he had me right there with him through the whole thing, not once did I doubt a moment. Even the sound track was great. The end, mind numbing on many levels for so many different reasons. Brilliant just in when the credits are shown.
Great on first viewing and continues to be entertaining and powerful. Politically charged in its own comicbook-like way. V is that same kind of character who questions, how far will you take things? Fantastic writing, with that comes wonderful scenes and dialog. I joy to watch more then a few times. :)
I was a tad worried about this, thinking only of typical emo-ness. But after just the first 10 minutes I was hooked. The characters were great, I love the Russian and the story of his whole family. The story really stuck with me, and gave another out-look on things. A very witty and enjoyable movie!
Very humorous the first time around, that is dark humor. You feel like a child sitting at the grown up table, knowing you shouldn't be laughing, but you are. The movie can come off superficial, which is the point... in a sense. But with that, the core can be missed. And dare I say it, Bateman is even relatable.
I don't think there could be anyone out there who wouldn't like the movie in one way or another. It's heart warming and entertaining with all of its slang. The hamburger phone is kick ass!
Fantastic little movie here, little being a understatement. Visually stimulating like no other and just a really fun entertaining movie! The colors are brilliant!
American History X is stunningly in your face and filmed beautifully. I truly took pleasure with how it went from black and white with past memories, white supremacist, neo-Nazi and racial disputes. Then switching to color of the here-and-now. Signifying ridged black and white ideals. A beautiful concept to portray a story like this. The dialoged is horrify in some scenes and acted throughout the film masterfully. Undoubtedly sad story, the end is complete bitter.
Fantastic. I thought this film was very interesting in the way it was put together with every character and the meanings behind each story having to do with Dylan. If you pay enough attention you can see that all the stories link and have a "ending" so to speak. Blanchett was amazing, having the roll that was the most Dylan-est of them all, she had the most to bring to the table, and she did it brilliantly. Whishaw also really stuck out for me, simple and to the point... Sort of. great movie!
Everything about this movie I adore! The Dialog, the set design, the characters, the story, the chocolate, the MELTING DOLL HEADS. Willy Wonka's facial expressions and reactions to children/parents/touching! How every single Oompa Loompa is the same. I love(not an extravagant enough word) every nook and cranny of this movie! After not seeing any of it since the films release, it's like the first-time-everything-go-right kiss all over again. Marvellous.
Look just take this movie as it is, a Michael Bay action movie. To which we all love! It's all about entertaining. There is a story here and you can get caught up in it. An easy watch and one you can make more then once. Bumblebee is flipping awesome.
This is just my kind of movie, complex yet simple. While being smart, funny and dark. The story was well put together, with angles and twists that were easy to follow, nice layering. The characters worked well in this as well with them selves. Hieronymus Bosch in reference when looking at his paintings as well as in the end.
I truly love this one, by the end of it it had become one of my favorite movies. The story was good, but it was told even better, through flash-back and forwards. I found myself liking both main characters very much. It's a sweet, sad and touching movie, a wonderful interplay on the effect someone can have on another persons life. Plus the guy was a hot chef, what's not to love. Oh and the soundtrack was great as well.
Fantastic movie. Joaquin Phoenix became Johnny Cash. The chemistry between him and Reese was amazing. The direction and movie shots were very nice on the eyes and I enjoy/love the fact that the actors did the singing. Definitely adding another element that was done nicely.
Creed dead, shock I enjoyed this one, it seemed Rocky had his persona back into play, recovering from the last. He wasn't about the fame with having people watch as he works out. *smacks self* but just about a fight, to avenge Creed so to speak. Going out in the middle of nowhere just to focus on what needs to be done. The only thing that got to me was this one had no sign of the music that is most known with any Rocky movie...
Beautiful photography and cinematography throughout this movie. To me the basics of this story was love and having something that can not happen. These are both things we all have lived through in our own lives. Just shown in another light with this movie. The acting was superb and I really enjoyed the story. Deep, beautiful and tragic. The end scene is very well done and powerful, it had me crying.
OK, if there was ever a movie that was taken from my life, it would be this one, family and all. Great move here, story, characters all of it very memorable and entertaining.
Looking for a mind screw of a movie, so to speak, this is the one for you. Trippy - being told backwards while another piece is being told forwards and shot in black and white. And both lead to the "ending"/beginning of the story. My mind, hours after the movie was over, was continuing to work out the puzzle. Personally I love these kinds of movies, a movie that invites you to watch it more then once. Acting: superb. Cinematography: awesome. The collaboration between Christopher Nolan and his brother leaves you a end result of a masterpiece.
I LOVE this movie. There were so many elements about it that was fantastic! I enjoyed that it was a mix of a classic stoner movie with its own lingo while bring in some while done action scenes. The exchanging of words are witty, stupid, comical and just down right fun. Saul = ♥!
This movie pulls on all of my personal emotional and nostalgic strings. I grew up watching, and loving this movie. It began my love affair with Gary Oldman, him becoming that comfort actor who continues to surprise me as well as make my internal child feel at home. Oddly I've grown to dislike Bruce Willis. In any case, I adore this movie. And always will, I've become bias with it by this point.
Don't watch the trailer before the movie, they managed to give a way different feel then what the movie is really about.
Enticingly gem of funniness. I <3 Bill. Aaron Eckhart's character is a very lovable in his own awkward and charming way. Great story with some amusing life lessons and moments that we all go through... Or not, but still comical.
I adore this movie in its entirety. The direction, performances, story and character all fitting magically. This is one of those movies I would be content with watching more then once. Tom Cruise plays a great calm, cool and collected hit-man. Even toward the end, almost emotionless.
In any event, the movie as a whole is very poignant, compelling, and carries with it a story that would hit deep to anyones core at some level. If you haven't seen this film, I do recommend it. :) Wonderfully acted, kudos to Fiennes. It wasn't anything over dramatic, just a simple and utter sadness that penetrated through his whole being in a sense. And you felt it.
Everything is wrapped up in a beautifully melancholy fashion. The characters and story deep with meaning and a intriguing yet tragic love story. Amazingly filmed and preformed.
This man is my idol. If you enjoy his work and what you know of him as a person, go and rent this documentary. I thought it was very well done to say the least. By the end of it some thing will smash against the cage containing the writing Imp inside anyone with a writing itch.
I grew up watching and loving this movie. Now I hadn't seen it for years. And while watching the film recently I realized how much this film has influenced me throughout my life, even in the slightest ways it has incorporated its self into the fabric of my being. There is plenty of wonderful acting throughout, the story and characters pull you in and you immediately find some way to empathize with almost all o them. Portman's plays Mathilda with grit and care. You start to believe she is older then she obviously is. And then you are brought right back to scenes of her as a innocent child.
Contemplating and playing with the idea of SQUID is quite a marvel and brain-screw to be frank. I mean my mind is already throbbing trying to wrap its self, well, around its self. What would it really feel like? The film moved very smoothly with story and characters, the only one who bugged me was Juliette Lewis's. But alas, she was needed. As a whole there was a nice grunge and dirty feel to the movie, that I quite liked. I could watch it more then once in one sitting and be very content.
The dialog in this film alone is -fantastic-. Witty, coded, and thoughtful. A grungy film, reminded me of that Six Feet Under feel. Depressing and not much of an out for anyone. And very sharp to the T. A film you'd have to see more then once to grasp and appreciate it as a whole.
While I can see how some may have disliked this installment compared to the past two films. There seemed to be more of an edge in the reminiscing and restated dialog department, rather then making it its own contribution. But this was what worked for the finishing of the tale, giving that feel of decent, transfer into the next generation of a Godfather, Andy Garcia.
It's a bitter movie. Filled with past stigmas and new boiling blood. Michael wanted out, to really grab back his life from before he was the Godfather, but, "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."((this scene here is one of my favorites!! Yes when he gets the chest pains. Pacino was magic. :D))
A long movie no doubt, and I felt this, or I would have mentioned it. But there were more then a few scenes that tare into you. Pacino's performance as Michael Corleone holds everything together, you begin to really feel for the man. The ironic and real part of downheartedness comes at the end, when a piece who truly loves him dies and sets everything into motion. Like a overdue domino effect he is left alone. The very-very end scene with the dogs/pups was perfect, with pensive solemnness.
An annoying aspect to this film, is Connie. I didn't care to hear anything she had to say, I haven't in the past films, but especially during the Godfather Part III. Plus what she came in wearing was so flipping distracting. ><; Did she just love the curtain drapes or bed sheets that much?
