Probably my all time favorite movie!
Besides the few obvious historical inaccuracies, this movie is awesome. Great acting, great cinematography, great movie soundtrack/score. Beautiful scenery, etc. Historical fiction at its best!

The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers 4.5 Stars
Great movie. The only major flaw was that the last 1/3 of the movie was too choppy going back and forth between the Battle of Helmsdeep and the Ent Moot.

Le Pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf) 4.5 Stars
Awesome movie! Great cast. good acting. Awesome cinematography. The dark, dreary, wintery setting is incredible for setting the mood for a great horror mystery story. I dont care much for martial arts in movies, but even the action scenes in this movie are incredible. The monster is creepy... and the political intrigue is interesting and refreshing for a movie of this type.

The best foreign language film I have seen.

One of the most emotional rollercoaster movies I have ever seen. One moment is happy and uplifitng, and moments later it turns sad and tragic. One of the best romantic dramas I have ever seen.

Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt and Julia Ormond are great. Great cinematography with beautiful settings.

Children of Men (2006,  R)
Children of Men 4.5 Stars
Great movie. Very intense.
Alfonso Cuarón's filming style was incredible... including the longer takes instead of numerous takes that are highly edited together such as in most films... and also the camera constantly staying with or right behind Clive Owen through out much of the movie. The dreary ambiance of the movie with the grim bluish hue was a nice touch.

There could have been a little more depth for a couple of the supporting characters and the Fishes organization (maybe add 10 or 15 minutes to the film for more development), but overall the characters and acting were good.

Interesting to note, that Julianne Moore got 2nd billing even though her role in the film couldnt have been more than 20 minutes! and that Claire-Hope Ashitey who played Kee (and had the 2nd largest role in the film) didnt even get her name mentioned on the movie posters. I think they could have at least listed her in addition to Julianne Moore and Michael Caine!

Overall, it is an awesome apocalyptic sci-fi drama.

I Am Legend (2007,  PG-13)
I Am Legend 4.5 Stars
I loved the movie. It was so intense, we came out of the cinema feeling exhausted!

This is not just a "zombie" movie like so many people seem to think it is. In fact the "creatures" are not even zombies but still living humans that have been radically altered in behavior and made more vampiric in appearance by the virus.

The movie was also very emotional and very sad at times. Will Smith was emotional and just great in his role, and his dog Samantha looks so much like our dog, and that just made us even more attached to her in the movie.

If I could change one thing, it would be to add an extra 5 or 10 minutes to the movie and explain more of the past events that happened after the initial outbreak and sealing off of Manhattan.
If they would have explained a little more about the humans that got altered into the vampiric like creatures, then that would have quelled all of the people out there that thought this was just another "zombie" movie.

All in all, I Am Legend was a very memorable movie. And more than a few tears were shed by the end.

Lovers of the Arctic Circle (Los Amantes del Círculo Polar) (1998,  R)
Lovers of the Arctic Circle (Los Amantes del Círculo Polar) 4.5 Stars
Lovers is a very beautiful movie.
I would have to say that this is one of the better foreign language movies I have seen. I could not keep my eyes off of it from the moment I started watching it.

It is filmed in Spanish and has English subtitles.

The story takes place in Spain and later in Finland... and is about a boy and a girl that first meet when they are 8 years old... and are obviously destined to be with one another... yet they end up becoming step siblings because the boys dad and the girls mom get married. Their obsession with each other carries through out their teen years and into early adulthood.

The story was somewhat erotic, yet innocent. both the adult leads and the actors playing their teenage selves had incredible chemistry.

The haunting imagery and story was beautiful. And the occasional skipping back and forth between their younger years and teen and adult ages was a spectacular way to tell their story.

All in all this movie gets a big WOW from me.... even up through the ending.

Highlander 4.0 Stars
One of my favorite films of the 1980's. It is FAR better than any of the mostly crappy Highlander sequels that came after. (the tv series was much better than the sequel movies). Although its "favorite" status was surpassed by many movies since, it still holds a special place in my heart as one of the "first movies that I really loved".
