Pretty funny family-themed comedy with some good performances, big laughs, my girl Mo'Nique, and even a few tugs at the heartstrings. Probably best to see this with a large group of people!
Over Her Dead Body Over Her Dead Body PG-13 3.0 Stars
Not bad for a romantic comedy. A few laughs here and there.
You Don't Mess with the Zohan You Don't Mess with the Zohan PG-13 3.5 Stars
Pretty funny Adam Sandler flick - and I'm not really a huge fan (Wedding Singer is my favorite of his films) with some outrageous sight gags and a story that somehow involves an Israeli superspy who wants to be a hairdresser uniting the Israelis and the Palestinians! I couldn't understand half the dialog with the accent Sandler used but I was grateful that he never degenerated to that baby talk voice he does! Sandler looks amazing too, even with his outdated 70s haircut (but he pulls it off well!). There are some funny cameos that I won't ruin, some great Warner Brothers cartoon style action sequences and , well, Sandler's bare butt (okay, butt double). Overall, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be and probably more laughs than "The Love Guru." Sandler fans should enjoy it, and non-fans may find a few things to laugh at as well. Worth at least a matinee viewing.
The Love Guru The Love Guru PG-13 3.0 Stars
Not much to say about this. You either like Mike Myers movies or you don't. This one is more hit and miss than any of the Austin Powers movies (well, except for the last one), but the first third is really pretty great, especially with the set up and some of the astonishing celebrity cameos. As the story drags on - Pitka has to get a hockey player and his wife back together so he can win the Stanley Cup - really doesn't go anywhere (and Jessica Alba's presence does nothing to advance the proceedings and slows things down when Pitka begins to develop feelings for her), but again there are some great laugh-out-loud moments (particularly a scene in Verne Troyer's characters's office). Not as good as "Get Smart" so it will be interesting to see which comedy scores better on opening weekend. And make sure to stay for the one - yes, ONE - blooper that runs right at the beginning of the credits. Probably the funniest thing in the entire movie!
Get Smart Get Smart PG-13 4.5 Stars
I can't believe it, but they've actually done a remake of a 60s sitcom that is actually funny, of its time and doesn't do anything to ruin the memory of the original! I think Steve Carrell has finally found his next big box office hit after the disaster that was EVAN ALMIGHTY! He's perfectly cast in the Don Adams role of Maxwell Smart and he balances the cluelessness perfectly with the smarts (no pun intended!) we knew Max always had. I wasn't sure about Ann Hathaway at first but she did grow on me as Agent 99 as the film progressed. She was just a bit too abrasive with Max at the beginning but she warmed to his charms as the film progressed. Also very good are Alan Arkin as Chief and Dwayne Johnson as Agent 23. Adding some very funny moments are Masi Oka (HEROES) and Nate Torrence as two guys who develop all the cool gadgets the agents get to use, but also end up the but of "high school bully" type of abuse from the agents - they get their revenge though! The TV show villain Seigfried, played by Terrence Stamp, gets surprisingly little screen time even though he's the mastermind of the plot to kill the president, but it's also great to see original Siegfried Bernie Koppel in a hilarious cameo (now where on earth were Barbara Feldon and Dick Gauthier?). The story has the agents hopping the globe trying to track down nuclear materials that KAOS is stockpiling in order to supply some very unstable countries with nuclear capability, and there are some great action scenes along with some very funny moments like Max's "dance off" with 99. I also loved the set up for a future film with the introduction of Hymie the Robot (Patrick Warburton) and Fang, Max's dog from the series, as well as the budding romance between Max and 99. If they can continue to keep making the films as fresh and funny as this one, I will welcome a series of GET SMART films with open arms! And kudos to the filmmakers for the dedication to Don Adams and Edward Platt before the credit roll. Good job all around!
The Incredible Hulk The Incredible Hulk PG-13 4.0 Stars
Another good, solid comic book film from Marvel Studios, not quite as solid as IRON MAN, but pretty terrific nonetheless. Thankfully, the filmmakers decided to not make this an origin story (letting the original, less successful HULK take care of that), so we can get right into the story of Bruce Banner trying to find a cure for his infection and the military pursuing him to use his infection to build a super army. Another member of the military team volunteers to be a guinea pig but becomes so addicted to the power bestowed on him that he craves more and ends up becoming an Abomination. Along the way Bruce reconnects with his old flame, Betty Ross (whose father is the general tracking Bruce), who helps him in his search for a cure and seems to be the one person who can soothe the savage beast. The film is full of terrific action sequences - in particular, the very first one in a bottling plant in Brazil where you only see the Hulk in shadows - and the Hulk this time out looks very good. He was never anything more than a cartoon character in a live action movie in the first film, but the character animation is much more developed and the Hulk is integrated into the scenery very well (I was particularly impressed with a helicopter shot of the Hulk running next to a Jeep and crashing into it). Performances by Norton, Hurt and Roth are all terrific and the only weak link is Tyler, but at least she's better in this than THE STRANGERS. Stan Lee gets another great cameo, and fans of the TV series will appreciate original Hulk Lou Ferrigno's cameo (he also lends his voice to the Hulk in the film), a brief clip of Bill Bixby from "The Courtship of Eddie's Father," and the lonely piano solo that closed out each episode of the show. If you saw IRON MAN and stayed through the credits, you were rewarded with a brief scene that sets up THE AVENGERS movie (coming in 2011). Luckily, you won't have to wait for the end of the credits to see the little teaser at the end of this film, but don't jump out of your seat until you actually see the credits roll! This film should really please anyone who was disappointed with the first film, and if you liked IRON MAN, you definitely need to see this one. Overall, a very, very good comic book action film for the summer!

Hairspray (2007) 1. Hairspray (2007) PG 5.0 Stars
The best movie of 2007 - to date. Joyous, uplifting, great music and performances, a total surprise! Loved it! Saw it a second time opening night and it holds up just as well! The most joyous movie you'll see this year
Moulin Rouge! 2. Moulin Rouge! PG-13 5.0 Stars
Visually stunning with a fantastic blend of modern music with the story's time period. Features one of the most stunning entrances in film history.
The Poseidon Adventure 3. The Poseidon Adventure PG 5.0 Stars
The king of disaster movies with a cast of characters you actually care about (take that "Poseidon"!). This is the film that inspired me to learn how movies were made and to become a filmmaker myself.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show 4. The Rocky Horror Picture Show R 5.0 Stars
Endlessly entertaining with a great score and iconic performances. What more can be said of the Queen of Midnight Movies? Must be seen at least once at midnight at the cinema! Check out the UK version on DVD!
Phantom of the Paradise 5. Phantom of the Paradise PG 4.5 Stars
An under-rated DePalma masterpiece featuring a terrific score, and a truly sympathetic character in the "Phantom." This movie has some real heart within its outrageous trappings.
Brazil 6. Brazil R 5.0 Stars
Brilliantly visualized tale as only Terry Gilliam could make. The film is more famous for its behind the scenes drama and butchered theatrical release. Check out the excellent Criterion DVD to see the film as Gilliam intended.

I have never seen the television show for which this is based, so I had no real preconceptions besides what I saw in the trailers. So, for me, Get Smart was a pleasant surprise :D
It was full of laughs and Steve Carell played a really funny Agent 86...Highly recommended.

    Solaris Solaris
    4.5 Stars by Danielle
Snow: "How much sleep ya need, Kelvin?
    Chris Kelvin: How much sleep?
Snow: Yeah. Um, how long ya think you can go without sleep?
    Chris Kelvin: Depends.
Snow: Well, when you do go to sleep... I find I sleep much better with the door locked."

Chris Kelvin (George Clooney) has come to Solaris for answers. Still broken and disconnected from the death of his wife, Kelvin is going through the motions, investigating the puzzle of what happened to the crew of the Prometheus, what drove one man to suicide and the survivors to the edge of madness. But when Kelvin's dead wife Rheya (Natascha McElhone) awakens beside him, he will discover that the greatest mysteries of all lie within our own memories and desires. In Solaris, Clooney is forced to stretch as he never has before, and without much expository dialogue to cover him. Facial expressions, gestures, even body positions allow Clooney to carry much of the film's emotional weight in fairly subtle fashion. The film's second act is strong, driven by the characters and their jumbled memories of Rheya's earlier, tragic demise on Earth. Jeremy Davies delivers a solid performance as Snow, one of the demented crew members who clearly is troubled and is hiding a secret from the others. What makes this a great movie is that it stayed true from the beginning. There were no monsters, cheap thrill scenes or excessive sub-plot points so typical of the sci-fi genre. The camerawork was well done and the music was consistent with the tone of the film.

    Untraceable Untraceable
    3.5 Stars by K J
Can't quite put my finger on what is missing from Untraceable, but there is something that holds this film back from being great. The storyline is very believable to me. Killings being broadcast via the internet does not take a huge leap in belief with todays technology. The FBI being involved and stymied doesn't take a long stretch in believability either. The cast is good, the story plausible, the killings are disturbing and graphic... The plot is disquietingly too realistic and I shudder to think how quickly something of this nature could happen. All in all, I liked the film, but I just would love to know what is missing that keeps it from being great.
    Definitely worth viewing....

I'd read there was some re-shooting but wasn't sure what exactly. The kiss we never saw error was very obvious. I did like the concept behind the super powers and would loved to have seen more explanation of that.

This came from a recommendation (Thanks Blake) ,I had put it off for a few weeks because of the subject matter. It is excruciatingly hard to watch.I mean these 3 little 8 year old buys died. Not only did they die they were brutally tortured, mutilated, raped ,bludgeoned, and drowned,Yeah all while being hogtied. This movie made me ill as a mother.Made me disgusted the way these redneck ass hillbilly, Mutherfuckers treated this case!Um "Lost the evidence'????WHAT????? Oh Lord ,My heart goes out to the parents of these 3 little boys,What they had to see and hear in that courtroom would haunt me forever in my dreams.I really want to watch part 2 of this now.The ending which I won't give away even though this movie has been out forever is soooo unsettled. There is a HUGE curveball thats thrown into the whole mix towards the end that leaves me really wondering did these 3 boys do this. Were they capable of pulling off all that had to be planned and done.Or were they just ,normal teens, talkin trash, dressing different, and by golly you can't like in the dam Bible belt and believe in anything other than God or even think it or you will surely burn in Satan's Lap (rolls eyes).Anyway please chat back with me if you have seen this one,I would love to gear the thoughts of others.Blake you first buddy.=)

OK,ok I know what happened now,I get it.People who put the final stamp of approval on Trailers should maybe be put through a 2nd opinion sometimes. From the trailer this movie APPEARS to be a comedy. It is funny, but as the story proceeds you find out there is some drama involved a deeper meaning to Hancock and his existence. Then you throw Charlize Theron into the mix who in the trailer is bearly even shown and it 's almost as if you are watching a different movie.Hancock was great,I think Will Smith kicks ass and I always will.I think he is one of the top notch actors we have today.Maybe something could have been done more with the script as well, but all in all its worth watching =)

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
    4.0 Stars by Fabio
If you're expecting Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to be a fourth in the series, you'll be disappointed. The original three were set in the 1930s, looking for buried treasure in a Treasure of the Sierra Madre style. The new film is set in the 1950s, and that changes everything.
The film itself is well written, and well made with only a few exceptions.
some of the animation and action sequences seemed too difficult to believe (even for an Indy film) like the monkey-rope scene.
The only thing that I hate the most is Shia LaBeouf dressed like Marlon Brando in "the wild one"..I can't accept that!

Hancock earns 3 1/2 stars, being a bit above average because Will Smith was great and hilarious in the first 40 minutes, Jason Bateman was great in the first 30 minutes, a couple of scenes are totally roll on the floor funny and the story broke off into what could have developed as awesome drama. Could have become awesome drama, but someone went cutting crazy or decided to hurry up and end the film. Overall, I enjoyed this popcorn flick, but it could have been so much more....
Worth seeing, but you don't have to rush to the theater. DVD will be fine for Hancock...

Definitely worth seeing, especially for my fellow US citizens. This is a three part documentary and I for one could have passed on the first part which deals with organized religion. It does have its place in pointing out the judo-Christian foundation of the US. Parts two and three are quite stellar for those who enjoy conspiracy theories. Like anything else set forth as 'truth', do your own research and decide for yourself what to believe.
It's been a while since I watched this in its entirety through google videos, but I remember being blown away by part two and doing my own research afterwards. If you find this compelling, take notes and do your own research. The answers might surprise you....

This movie is pretty incredible.Yet another movie that Daniel Day Lewis will just blow you away.He is an amazingly Powerful actor with such a calm demeanor on the surface. He puts so much passion into his roles,I don't know of too many actors that are of his caliber.Winona Ryeder also did a really good job in this as well.I didn't know the whole story behind the Salem witch trials before this.It is absolutely absurd that a handful af adolescent girls with nothing better to do than be bitchy and spiteful could carry so many innocent townspeople to their deaths.Anyways if you have not seen this you really REALLY should,Very worth the watch!
