| Into the Wild - R |
There is something in this story that is intriguing, and yet when you watch it...you feel the desire that McCandless had for abandoning everything that made him a number in the population and then embracing the wild. I don't know whether it is these moving passages from the book, I assume, or just the scenery of how much emotion goes through one when they are on their own for so long and get to experience the beauty of nature firsthand. I must find this book and you must watch this film, this isn't a request...do it whilst I try to scrambe some kind of review for it deeming worthy of it. |

| Le Scaphandre et le Papillon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) - PG-13 |
This movie is probably one of the most stunning, inspirational, thought-provoking and beautiful stories I've ever watched. The history behind this movie itself, is just completely remarkable. One thing one can tell as soon as the movie begins, your brain clicks off that this is a western-world piece. It's European from beginning to end, there's just something about the mystique in European movies...that bring about a je ne sais quoi...and this one certainly has it. If you can sit through some subtitles, then do it...it's really, really worth it. [review TBC] |

Damn, is Guy Ritchie ever consistent with his films or what? I swear this guy is becoming my new favourite director...and I know, I know. I still need to see Lock, Stock...lol on my way! Yet srsly, whomever was good enough to mention this flick to me gets a banana sticker - I hear they're highly coveted- ![]() Lol. AND YES, Statham has hurrr. I think it adds to the characters he portrays this time around. :] |

| Ghost Town - PG-13 |
Review TBC, for a quirky movie I definitely enjoyed this one. :] Gervais fans are bound to eat this one up...and yes, Greg Kinnear is quite likeable here. Lol...points for whomever knows what that ref is from. ;] Interesting how one of NYC's most misanthropic dentists...would find himself talking to more people than he can endure on a regular basis...more on this later. ...I think this flick is totally underrated...'cause not everyone is attuned to this delightful little gem. :] |

I'm not exactly certain, but is it just me or is there just an increase of these types of movies? Could you think these directors are making a statement upon society today? It seems the more corrupt our world becomes, or the more we recognize what is happening to it...do we get these stories of people taking justice into their own hands. It's an interesting scenario though, because it also brings us back to our philosophy lectures on ethics...where do we draw the line? This film is a fine example of this question being addressed...or insinuated at the very least. Well, let' s see...this is the story of Erica Bain who when walking their dog one night with her fiancee have a bit of a run in with some thugs. This run in costs her fiancee's life, and 3 weeks of hers as well. She is just a voice on the radio, and always had lived and breathed the city...even loved it. And has used a bit of time on the radio to show everyone exactly the beauty that hides within the streets. Yet, after this very incident she finds the ugliness that is masqueraded by the beauty. As she tries to mind her own business, for some reason Erica is a magnet for all kinds of criminals. Unable to sleep, or rest because of the abruptness of this attack on her life...she haunts the streets at night recording ideas to share with her audience...yet every night prowl turns out to be a run in with some kind of trouble or conflict. Slowly slipping from the person she once was, into someone else she purchases an illegal gun and ends up having to take matters into her hands more times than she can count. Eventually, her exploits are noticed by the media and the rest of the city as they voice their opinions on the work of some unknown 'vigilante'. Meanwhile, the police are looking for the cause of such effects and one detective actually interacts with her and becomes somebody she can talk to. When things start to weigh heavily upon her conscience and things looks like they are moving forward in her case, she must face a decision...to go through with it and avenge her fiance or do the 'right' thing and walk away. The movie shows how apathetic it seems that police departments are to the victims of cases such as this, when she asks to speak to the detectives assigned to her case..she's told 'I know how hard this is for you, but if you sit down there an officer will come and help you with your case.' In turn, this fuels Erica's need to take control of what she lost control of 3 weeks or so ago. I think that Jodie Foster does a phenomenal job in here, becoming that hard and stoic character that which she wasn't before getting attacked in the city she loves. Terrence Howard is a good addition as the detective who seems to find her intriguing and wants to genuinely help her. I -might- be a bit biased however, as there is a lot of prose on here when she's on the air. And, if you ask me it's freakin' brilliant poetry and that might be the only case you might want to watch this film...but sit down because you'll find yourself glued to it. At least, I was. Recommend to anyone who's ever thought about the thin line between right and wrong. |

| 30 Days of Night - R |
ROFL...despite I was apparently 'not interested' before...ending up watching this with vatti when I was feeling a bit under the weather. Now, another graphic novel turned movie...that I have no knowledge about at all. Well, let's start from the beginning shall we then? To see a large expanse of white with nothing else in sight does bring about some kind of cold and misery to the atmosphere of the movie...then we see poor Ben Foster trudging along gradually through the harsh snow...now things get slightly interesting. Next we learn that there will be absence of sun for the next 30 days, and everyone is preparing for a month long night or high-tailing it outta there. We meet Evan and Bill, the sheriff and deputy of the town who seem to be investigating a series of strange incidences just prior to the sun fully going down. Then we meet Stella, his wife who is leaving for Anchorage...but unfortunately does not reach the airport in time for her flight. However, this is the least of her problems. Seriously though...more dog violence? Okay, we fuel the characters...but still those poor huskies! Regardless, it was smart to do off with them as they are one of the various means of transport which can give anyone a way out of there. The remaining citizens find themselves fighting off legends and stories that everyone knows about...but these are NOT your typical vampires. There's no sensuality and intrigue or mystique...these are simply need-driven primitive animals who are violent and hungry as hell...and nothing, NOTHING will stop them from killing and eating every last resident in the area. They kind of remind me of zombies in a sense, or even a pack of hungry wolves. The best things about this movie I would have to say is the atmosphere they build of that complete isolation from the outside world, the story isn't bad and there are even some pretty cool cinematography...not to mention the kickass make up! But, other than that the acting...and a majority of the cast can't really hold their own. Though the ring leader of these creatures is pretty badass...for all the few words he has to say. All in all, I'd say it could be a b-horror...but it's not really that type of genre...now is it? If you're looking for something to watch that makes you think...then think twice before picking this one out. |
