Once Upon a Time in America
This movie is possibly the best I've ever seen and I will ever see!
What makes this movie so outstanding for me?!:
First of all I have to say that I'm a big fan of the gangster movie genre! And I love epic movies because I think that in 4 hours there can be shown much more than in an average 2 hours movie - the character development can become much deeper so that you really begin to feel with the characters! But naturally a 4 hours movie is not automatically a winner - it's also dangerous that the movie could become boring or whatever. In fact many of the long movies are rather a deception for me because I think that the director could have shown the same as well in 2 hours... But here that is definitively not the case!
Sergio Leone is a masterful director and his final work is in my eyes a real 'master'work!
The whole technical elements: the settings, the optics, the cinematography and the music make a piece of art for me! It's so beautiful to watch! The images and the music flow into each other and bring a magical mood! I consider also the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone to be the best ever having been written for screen! As for the acting: Robert de Niro - I think that's said enough...! But the whole cast is amazing! And then perhaps the most important thing - the storytelling! - it's just excellent how Leone tells this tale in three levels of time always changing from one to another - through that it really gets this epic character - I loved the childhood sequences a lot - it's all so romantic in some way, but also the other two levels of time are executed excellently! I think that I could write still many reasons why I love this movie so much but said enough...!

If you like this, watch also "The Untouchables"!
