Other than number one, these films are in order of their North American theatrical release date(if they had one). If I've given it a 5 star rating, then it's on this list.

  csworky's Rating My Rating
1
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark) (1981,  PG)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark)
The perfect movie, a little bit of this and little bit of that, thrown together by Spielberg. A B-Movie premise made into an A-movie presention.
2
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939,  Unrated)
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
James Stewart's performance alone makes this film worthy of five stars. It's hypnotic as the doughboy, All-American optimist. The filabuster finale is riveting. Excellent supporting cast, spots of humour throughout.
3
Harvey (1951,  Unrated)
Harvey
You'll never find a kinder, more gentler man than Elwood P. Dowd. James Stewart is magicial and the movie matches him pace for pace. Funny, touching, just of wonder.
4
North by Northwest (1959,  Unrated)
North by Northwest
One of Hitchcock's best. Cary grant is amazing. Great script, some very unexpected humorous moments. I love every second of this movie.
5
To Kill A Mockingbird (1962,  Unrated)
To Kill A Mockingbird
Powerful movie, based on the equally powerful book. Terrific performances all around.
6
A Christmas Story (1983,  PG)
A Christmas Story
This has been a Christmas stable in my house for more than 20 years. Sometimes even more than once. It's perfect. I laugh just as hard now, as I did then and I find myself laughing knowing what's coming up and then still laugh at the pay off. I love it.
7
Ghost Busters (Ghostbusters) (1984,  PG)
8
Platoon (1986,  R)
9
Dances With Wolves (1990,  PG-13)
Dances With Wolves
Just a pure cinematic masterpiece. The story draws you in and it's breath-taking to look at. Some slow moments, but for me it's never dull. The extended version adds so much more depth to the supporting characters, it's well worth a look.
10
JFK (1991,  R)
JFK
Whether your watching the long version or the really long version, this movie is exceptional. And whether you believe the theory or not, it's hard to deny its power of persuasion. Absolutely riveting.
11
A Few Good Men (1992,  R)
12
The Fugitive (1993,  PG-13)
13
True Romance (1993,  R)
14
Schindler's List (1993,  R)
Schindler's List
Only one word can be used to describe this movie and that's all I'm going to use: Powerful.
15
Hoop Dreams (1994,  PG-13)
Hoop Dreams
Wonderfully layered basketball, sorry, real-life documentary. Full of surprising twists and turns that if they happened in a regular movie, you couldn't accept them. Excellent.
16
The Shawshank Redemption (1994,  R)
17
Heat (1995,  R)
18
The Rock (1996,  R)
The Rock
My all time favourite, "Balls Out" action movie. I saw this thing 5 times at the theatre. It's smart, funny. By far, Michael Bay's best work.
19
L.A. Confidential (1997,  R)
L.A. Confidential
One of my faves. It's poetic watching the three main stories connect and intertwine. Good twists, great cast. The Night Owl interrogation scene is classic.
20
Boogie Nights (1997,  R)
21
Dark City (1998,  R)
Dark City
Best Sci-Fi movie ever. One most original spaceships in movie history. Clever story, cool effects.
22
Being John Malkovich (1999,  R)
23
The Insider (1999,  R)
24
The Interview (2000,  Unrated)
The Interview
It's absolutely best movie where nothing happens. It's purely dialogue driven and it's never dull. Hugo Weaving is brilliant as always, many twists and turns. It'll keep you guessing right up to the end.
25
Almost Famous (2000,  R)
Almost Famous
Plain and simple, I love this movie. I have a smile on my face for the whole movie. The Director's Cut is even better, 40 more minutes of genius, not a dull moment. Tiny Dancer sing-a-long is one of the best scenes in the history of cinema.
26
Remember the Titans (2000,  PG)
27
Traffic (2000,  R)
28
Gosford Park (2001,  R)
Gosford Park
Underrated comedic/mystery caper from the master of ensemble casts, Robert Altman. It gets better with each viewing, Clive Owen, Emily Watson and Helen Mirren are standouts.
29
Frailty (2002,  R)
30
Minority Report (2002,  PG-13)
Minority Report
Ignore Tom Cruise the person, he is an amazing actor and he picks amazing movies. Of course, it helps having Spielberg at the helm and Scott Frank as the screenwriter working off of a story by Philip K. Dick. It's just mesmerizing. It works as a sci-fi, it's works as an action film, it's works as supense/mystery/thriller. Not a bad scene, flawless.
31
Equilibrium (2002,  R)
32
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003,  PG-13)
33
Crash (2004,  R)
Crash
Fantastic ensemble drama, every performance is pitch-perfect with Michael Pena being a stand-out. I am moved and find myself holding my breath during certain scenes every time I watch it.
